Whilst without doubt we all enjoy Shirley Bassey great performance, we should give same credit to the fantastic performance of the London Chamber Orchestra as a whole, and in particular the lovely smile of the conductor, and the female violinist at the beginning of the song she looked so enjoyable to this piece of music. How lovely The Orchestra was !
Agreed. I think they need to let her to the next one. Daniel Craig's last movie and Shirley's 4th and final Bond theme. She is the queen of Bond themes. Adele came close...and while I loved her theme for Skyfall...part of me wished Shirley had done it. I seem to recall that at one time, after hearing Shirley sing Living Tree, Daniel Craig recommended her but it didn't happen.
Shirley was blessed with vocal longevity, but to help matters she has taken very good care of herself. In her younger years, she did smoke, but then quit as she knew it would eventually affect her voice. Her 70th year anniversary album was a top 10 hit in the UK (peaked at #5). This ranking make Shirley the only female artist from the UK who has had a top 40 hit in 7 consecutive decades. See her recording of "Adagio" that I have uploaded. 70 years strong, and well into her 80's Shirley Bassey still posses a great voice. She has finally retired, but at 87 years old she still has the pipes to do another album if she wanted to.
