This episode is such a treat. Annie Lennox and Shirley Bassey. The absolute best. My favorite songs by Shirley Bassey are "This Is My Life", "I Who Have Nothing" and "Moonraker"
The "Moonraker" film song is possibly one of the best ever recorded song on Earth! (Together with "If and when", and many others ...) DSB: A true Legend!
6:05 This whole little exchange is so freaking adorable. The way Shirley's jaw drops, and then the way she facepalms...awwww. It made my freaking day 😋👍 13:00 When Shirley Bassey picks up that glass....DEAD 🤣🤣🤣
THE greatest star Wales has ever produced. There's nothing like her. Not only is she a performer who has out-ranked her US co-evals, but she has remained true to her roots - she has remained true to herself. She just gets better! Sad, she has to endure that miserable life down in Monte Carlo. But that's her choice.
It's not sad in Monte Carlo Dame shirley can live a normal life without being hounded like she would be back in England and her hometown of Wales! But she still loved the .uk
@@claudiascott6484true yes her fellow Welshman tom Jones moved to 'L.A... but sir Ken Dodd the comedian never left knotty ash Liverpool still remained in he's birth place .. 💙
Class. Dame Shirley, just class. Her range is undermined because of the people who take her off because they can but she is perfect, like Joan Collins. She is just beautiful and a perfect example of a mixed race woman. Beautiful .
James McInnis YES... being mixed race is a (beautiful) thing. Unfortunately, they love giving us ‘boxes’ to tick to ensure we conform. However, in the 1960s and 70’s, being spat at and chased by skinheads with dogs and neither black nor white folk liked you because they thought you were an abomination... it’s refreshing to acknowledge MIXED RACE PEOPLE. Especially when they are now Presidents or, perhaps, knighted by the Queen AND possibly married to Harry! Here to stay, sorry for pointing out how proud I am of us as a ‘people’ often segregated by society and never addressed in the mainstream media because we’re not exactly black and not exactly white... so we don’t have any ‘right on’ brigade fighting our corner because they don’t give a flying fuck. Therefore, we back our own corner. Sorry if that offends you... plus, Richard on the same sofa/couch... Heaven.
Theres no one to touch Shirley as a performer. 'After the Rain' is Shirley's last record is brilliant and her covers are often better than the original.
The gulf in class was sadly there for us to all see....poor Paloma had to improv and screech through her performance, where Dame Shirley effortlessly sung and held her notes!!! The difference between natural talent and manufactured tripe....Sorry!!!
@@crazycatpetera1404 Paloma sounds great?....do us a favour! Shirley sounds great, Paloma is distinctly average. Sure, by todays standard of singers, Paloma sounds really good, but even then, if you put her up against someone like Jessie J, Jessie wipes the floor with her. Listen Daniel, music is personal, and if Paloma does it for you, then that's terrific mate....but in my 60 years I've seen and heard phenomenal singers, of which Shirley is one, and Paloma barely registers a murmur.
It’s a shame she wasn’t asked to perform a song from the album. Would be a great way of promoting the album. Although in interviews since the album was made DSB said she wasn’t at all happy with the album. A shame as well because it will probably the last album she’ll ever record
I'm glad to know she wasn't happy with it, because the productionquality of that album was horrible. I really hope she gets David Arnold to come back and produce another impeccable album like The Performance again, especially if it were covers of other Bond Songs she didn't do, and with a proper orchestra this time (unlike when they sort of tried to do this in the '80s).
Shirley Bassey is wonderful. I wonder how Catherine Tate did in Assassins. I know the song that she is talking about. Sarah Jane is digging in her handbag trying to find her new gun to show to the fellow assassins. I got this really great gun. Sh...t where is it? It was on sale.
She hugged everybody in a most affectionate fashion, simply a most wonderful lady. 💝
Dame Shirley Bassey, the epitome of class and elegance as well as the best female vocalist of all time.
Don’t think she is the best, Streisand reings but Shirley holds a great second place, but yes, fabulous lady.
@@JoaoRodrigues-wm3eloh no no no.
Barbra Streisand, as talented as she was, cannot compete with Dame Shirley Bassey. Most of the world would agree.
Absolutely true!!!!!
Shirley is whiskey, Streisand is brandy.

@Blue Skies I agree. Annie sort of Joey interest in recording.
Dame Shirley's fun personality shines through in her performances and in conversations, she's a classy and wonderful lady 💖
This song to me is perfection in every way. The talents of Barry David and Bassey expressed in this song are as good as it gets.
Great moment of Shirley Bassey when she express herself to sing a song with great amazing voice

Yes, she's a perfect example of a mixed-race woman because she's mixed race. Someone who is not mixed race would be a poor example.
