    Solar Roadways is, as far as can be told, vaporware. The one demo patch I've seen had multiple led failures and wasn't able to keep snow off of itself.

    • @climhazzard115
      @climhazzard115 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah it's probably unrealistic. They'd probably be fairly high maintenance. Typical solar panels take maybe half their lifespan to cover their own cost. But solar panels used to build roads, no matter how sturdy, aren't likely to last that long, and there'd probably be other maintenance costs too, like extra cleaning and snow removal. Maybe future advancements will make the idea a possibility though.

    • @Myrddnn

      @@climhazzard115 Maybe. It's a great idea. I was pumped over it when it first came out, but they haven't done much to advance it since then. Disappointing.

    Bill Maher just said on his show last night that he installed solar panels on his roof 3 years ago but that due to ridiculous CA regulations the power needs to go into a shed before being used by the house for some inconceivable reason and after many inspections, a man worth millions still hasn't gotten approval to use the panels so after 3 years he hasn't benefitted at all and had nothing but hassles, expense, headaches and his time wasted. Maybe we need to vote the assholes out first before everyone gets the wrong impression of solar not because of the technology or the returns but because of the bullshit.

      The Cybertruck uses 450-500 Wh per mile, so that is 7kWh from solar per day. That requires around 1kW installed solar power, or 45 sq ft of panels! Can that really fit on the roof?? Unless he intends to use space grade cells, that cost 50 times as much as the usual 20% eff. cells.

    8:30 I may be wrong, but aren't solar windows kinda inefficient?. I mean, the purpose of solar panels is to absorb as much light as possible and convert it into energy. The visible light that is going through the solar window is a big part of the solar energy spectrum, and not taking advantage of it is a major energy waste.

    The Veterans Administration in Amarillo TX. put up solar pane;s in all the parking lots around the hospital to help with electricity expense. I myself don't know how its working but I guess it's doing okay, they are still up and provides shade in the parking lots

      Texas has plenty of sun so unless local electricity is super cheap solar will pay for itself quickly and then they get free power for decades. Even if the utilities are cheap the panels will power the hospital in case of blackouts so they will not need to rely on emergency generators so much.

    The planet is running out of Helium. We can't afford to use the small remaining quantity to fill up solar balloons. Why not use some of the electricity produced to heat the air filled in these baloons?

    Do create a video on SOLAR COMMUNITY.. India has more than 670,000 villages as on date and imagine each village has Solar Community for the common good. How to make it sustainable is the key.. SOLAR, WIND and other forms of energy should be available in every community for FREE, with very little investment and maintenance by community.. #CooperativeSocialism - is the way to go, worldwide.

    The Solar Roadways idea was good enough. It was the execution - using what is now 15 - 10 year old technology - that failed. ;) e.g. a bit later in the vid, he talks about a new company that is embedding solar tech into the materials of our infrastructure. ;) It's the same idea, but with better execution and newer technology. ;)

      SR was basically some guy with an idea trying to develop it in his garage, unfortunately that doesn't work out these days as well as half a century ago. There are other problems with it, but not being able to develop a properly working prototype certainly does not help.

    Solar roadways...
    Really?

    • @AnalystPrime
      @AnalystPrime 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know all that unused land and all those empty rooftops next to the roads that would be great places to put solar panels? Apparently the owners aren't interested, or if it is federal or city owned land, someone starts a campaign to ban solar farms claiming solar panels shoot laser beams that kill endangered animals. Or that they spread covid, just like windmills.
      Compared to all the hassle and stupidity involved, making roads out of sturdy solar panels actually starts sounding like a pretty easy and sensible solution...

    I think Solar balloons on Mars would just crash since there's no atmospheric pressure on Mars. On the other hand, it seems like there's a possibility of life in the upper atmosphere of Venus, where a solar balloon should feel right at home, assuming it can stay high enough to get enough sunlight, so hopefully we send some there soon.

    I don't care how much we move to solar there will always need for oil for lubrication . The question I have and that is the reflected heat and heat absorbent will a solar panel farm create ? These solar panels is forcing our wild life out of their natural living spaces , then we have solar panels on lakes and canals without regards for aquatic life forms and aquatic plants that the fish and other aquatic life depends on for food .
