- The Apple Pencil is by far any designer's favourite tool. But Samsung's S Pen is undoubtedly the king of note taking. Both offer the best pen experiences on tablets but do vary in terms of functionality, cost and app support system.

Is S Pen better than the Apple Pencil?
Yes, only if you are going to be taking more notes than using a tablet any kind of creative work or designing graphics. The native Samsug Notes app is very comprehensive and full of features when compared to the default note taking app, Notes, in the iPad. The note taking experience, just writing with the S Pen feels better when compared to the Apple pencil on the iPad.
Is Apple Pencil better than the S Pen?
Overall, Yes! Apple pencil is much more capable given Apple's app eco system. There are many more apps that are made for use with Apple's pencil as compared to apps on the Android Play Store for the S Pen. Apple's pencil may not be as good to write with, but it certainly offers more given the rich app library support.
For drawing, graphics, illustrations, art and doodling - the Apple Pencil has no competition. It is a super tool with apps that really give your creativity any shape and form you'd like.
Cons of using Apple Pencil:
1. Additional $130
2. Touch control which makes accidental switches between pen and eraser mode
3. Does not work if not charged (not a big deal though - it charges super fast)
4. Cannot be used for general navigation purpose like opening recent apps, pulling down command center or notification panel.
5. Functionally it is not as well integrated with the iPad as the S Pen is with Galaxy Tab S.
6. Only compatible with iPads and not iPhone or Macbooks.
Benefits of using Apple Pencil:
1. Super ergnomics and aesthetic feel
2. Matte finish makes it feel premium
3. Long battery life and super quick charging.
4. Tilt sensitive
5. Extremely rich supporting app library
Cons of using S Pen
1. Not as premium and ergonomic as the Apple pencil
2. Lacks support of premium apps that can leverage the S Pen
Benefits of using S Pen:
1. Comes with the tablet at no additional cost, so its cheaper.
2. Works without battery too
3. Offers a much better glide and writing experience on the Galaxy Tab display given the softer tip.
4. Comes with more integrated functionalities with the Galaxy Tab S that increases productivity.
5. Offers remote functionalities such as play pause videos, increase/decrease volume, launch camera, switch camera modes and take pictures, etc.

I personally like the feel of the S-Pen more. The only reason why I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ over the iPad was the S-Pen and Samsung DeX

As a mechanic , I like the spen because you can do everything with the tab s7 without having to touch the screen. Apple pen was weird and didn’t swipe thru pages, so I still had to touch the monitor some times. I returned the apple pen. I agree is your using your ipad for illustration the apple pen is gonna be better. I just want the pen so I don’t have to touch the screen, and for that spen is the best.

Esthétiquement, le S-Pen est moins abouti et la touche sur le côté est parfois un peu pénible. Mais sérieusement, l’expérience de l’écriture pour ses notes, ses cours ou tout besoin de ce genre, le S-Pen est de loin ma meilleure expérience. Le contact avec l’écran est souple et la sensation d’écriture est quasi la même que sur papier. Rien à voir avec l’Apple Pencil .

I agree the apps on iOS are superior for use with apple pencil. Even though I prefer the S-Pen I keep on jumping back to Apple pencil. Awesome analysis of their strengths and weaknesses, keep up the good work. It would be nice to see your prefered list of notetaking apps for S-pen.

I said... S pen is better integrated functionally but apple pencil can do more with 3rd party apps because of the app eco system.
So overall, if you take 3rd party apps into consideration too, apple pencil is better.

@@mobiscrub definietly i agree that apple app ecosystem is just wonderful and i have been going crazy cause i want a tablet but i just cant stand apple dont like it and android dindnt use to have good stuff but when u get down to it and i saw you can actually find all the good apps although not in as much quantity as in ipad but there are defineitly gems and better and better apps are coming on android all the time now lumafusion is released clip studio paint is released for sketching infinite painter rivals procreate and there are many pro level apps that u can use nowadays but still i agree on some level the android has long ways to go and thats maing me gooooooooo crazyyy

In the value for money part you forgot that samsung support his device only ~4 years, while apple support 2.5x times longer. So in fact you need to buy 2.5 samsung tablets in 10 years but only one ipad.

Why do you guys focus so much on the tools and what someone else is doing or not? Just buy whatever suits your needs. It's like going to an office supply store and deciding what sheets of paper are better. How much time would you spend on that fruitless endeavor? Come on, how is a pen or pencil usage even a conversation?
It is a much necessary conversation for people who want to compare ipads and galaxy s tabs before buying one.
when u save up money for a whole year to just buy a single device and ur spending it all on it u have to make sure Ur getting the best , not just that the pencils makes a huge difference if u want to work on that device in the future or not because if the pencil feels good to draw with it will become like an enjoyable task I don't know I just love good pencils I guess with good weight distribution a little heavy and a good thin tip every detail matters to me
I haven't bought a single notebook since 2022. I have carried my Ipad pro everywhere. All my notes are there. I used everyday for classes. This IS A VERY serious topic.
