A just absolute cinema detail about the last agni kai is that Zuko actually uses a lot of different styles from different nations and when he does you can hear the sound of water, air, earth or fire showing that just like his uncle said he mastered fire bending by understanding the different nations.
One thing that is worth noting with the Azula break down, the voice actress specifically cannot watch that episode. They cleared the studio to just have the sound tech and her and she went to a super dark place to fully sound like that. Such a great voice act scene but crazy how much it took for her to go there in order to do it
I need more people to understand how Aang taking away Ozai’s fire bending is a worse punishment than death. If Ozai had died many of his supports and himself would find him a martyr, and use him as a continued symbol of fire bending superiority through aggression. By taking away his bending Aang has removed the facet of Ozai that he held over the heads of earth/water/air benders for centuries. In the end Aang made Ozai what he despised more than anything else, a non Fire bender. Ozai now must live out more time without his bending, imprisoned than with it and free.
A small detail I rarely see people bring up is Ozai’s stance on things in the middle of the fight. At the start, he proudly exclaims “I have all the *power* _in the world!”_ But by the end of the fight, he recognizes that he’s weaker than Aang. “Even with all the power in the world, you are _still weak.”_ and I absolutely live for that character arc of humbling Ozai.
Also Ozai opens the fight by doing the three fire roar that Aang earlier was struggling with. In the finale, Aang does an even bigger roar with five fire blasts. They are constantly upping each other.
I always take pride in the fact that I was watching on TV as it aired, from S1 premiere to S3 finale. It was a pain in the ass to be on time every other Friday to catch new episodes at 8pm sharp in a house where someone else may or may not have hogged the TV at that time, but by golly I did it for the 3 years and it was glorious. I think if you're a thoughtful kid who loves good choreography and character development it would've stuck with you enough to stay invested.
21:29 I have watched this idk how many times, and I had no idea that Aang was redirecting the breath here, I thought he was air and fire bending. The redirection is soooo much better.
Everything in avatar comes in full circle. So like the swamp guy and guru lessons: everything and everyone is connected. Time is an illusion and so is death. The for nations cover the entire world, team avatar has been running into the same people no matter where they go. And those people run into people that team avatar also have met. The white lotus members' just happen to be all teachers of team avatar. Zuko just happened to run into jet after they both separately met team avatar on their own. Suki runs into azula. Zuko just always seems to be running into his ancestor Rokus reincarnation. Everyone and everything is connected.
every avatar either succumbed to killing their villain or ran out of time to find a solution. They all sacrificed their morals and upbrings of the nations they were born into. They didn’t really bring balance. Like think about it, what if the reason for the next avatar being born in a new nation all the time meant that it was time to use those morals of that nation but on a cosmic avatar scale? in order to bring balance to the world. Aang was the only one who listened to the morals of his nation. And he found a way to win that brings balance to the world. Thinking like an air bender he found an outbox solution. Thinking like a cosmic being avatar, he took Ozi's fire bending away. The direct description of the avatar was that he needs to bring balance to the world. That includes ozi. From what we’ve seen in korra, a person not having bending can bring balance and a person having bending can also bring balance to that person. And therefore the world. And when you think about it. No element or nation was brought up on the morals of needing to kill. Just how to live life.
@@_Lividity_ well that’s the thing is all the times of Korra beating her main villain of a season she went with the flow. Emotional and spiritual Change, which is water being is. It’s how she beat Amon, beat unalock and kuviera
Remember in the first episodes? Sokka says to Aang: "You can't fight the fire nation with FUN!" Now look at him. "Everyone report to the bombay immediately. We have a very special birthday to celebrate!" Then dumps them all out into the water. THAT'S fighting the enemy with FUN!
iro lesson on the four elements: if you pull from one place iro lesson on the four elements: each element has an important trait that when together it makes you whole. if you pull from one place your path becomes rigid and stale. You fall out of balance. this can happen to anyone. And this also happened to every villain in avatar and legend of Korra. To azula, ozi, zuko at some point. Every lesson in avatar comes back to haunt us in the series. And in life
The battle between Zuko and Azula is easily the most beautiful, epic, and cinematic moment in the show. I personally don't really blame Azula for the way she turned out. It can be hard to remember that Azula is only 14 years old. She's been warped and manipulated by Ozai her entire life, and because of how paranoid she is, she never believed that Ursa loved her. She also was warped into believing that the only way she could get friends was to control and intimidate them. While she definitely does have some responsibility for her actions, in my opinion, most of the blame belongs to Ozai.
"Into the Inferno" is my favorite episode of the entire show. The Agni Kai is just absolute peak. The animation, the illustration, the fight choreography, the MUSIC...all so beautiful and poignant. The first word spoken in the show is "It's". The last word spoken in the show is "perfect". It's perfect. The very last line of dialogue spoken in the show is...a blind joke.
16:30 Aang only gets in the position to get the Avatar State back because he refuses to kill Ozai earlier in the fight. He becomes a fully realized avatar by trusting HIMSELF not everybody else telling to take a life.
I always have lots of notes about the finale. For starters, in episode 1 Sokka tells Aang that you can’t fight for benders with fun, but Aang tells him he should try. In this Sokka tricks all the benders with a silly voice and a birthday celebration, which sounds like fun to me! Toph knows it a lot of fire because she could feel the heat from the flames through the broken window. The soundtrack of the final Agni Kai sounds so good, but to me is sounds just so sad as well. They are siblings, they shouldn’t be so hateful of each other. Their broken relationship is on full display, and while amazing and climactic, there is still sadness in what has been lost. I think the small sad tones reflect that.
Roku's mistake with sozion wasn’t that he should’ve killed him from the beginning. It was that he shouldn’t keep a closer eye on him and make sure he wasn’t alone. Sozion is firebender meaning he has passion and drive to achieve it. When passion is suppressed, any person can become frustrated that they still want to achieve what they want. And they won’t let anyone stop them. Sozion was only pulling from lesson fire, but not from the place of air which allows you to see the multiple possibilities, water that allows you to be more flexible and gain help when needed, and the earth that is about being patient. Sozion became out of balance, and on top of that he was a fire lord, a monarch. He was at a high status where he could help the world or make the world worse. Being a fire lord monarch majority means empty throne room and no one really to advise him. Sozin's original plan was to spread his wealth to other nations in a way, when suppressed by Roku, alone in his throne room, and only pulling from the lesson of fire (the achieving your passion) he fell out of balance and his dream became more about conquering the nations. So Roku knowing his sozion status, as an avatar and his friend, he should’ve stuck closer to him and advised him.
Respectfully, it’s spelled Sozin. But also, very interesting thought: what would have happened if the fire nation under Sozin found a peaceful way to spread their wealth and prosperity. They literally achieved an industrial revolution on their own. Could metal bending have been discovered sooner even without Toph’s unique perspective (literally) on earth bending? Could something akin to TLOK’s Republic City happened sooner? Etc

Yeah even with those details, esp the lion turtle stuff for me, I still think it’s so well done that I can more or less dismiss/not let it affect my enjoyment of the media. I think it’s peak
Man, the lion turtle stuff is not a deus ex machina. People don't pick up on it, but the turtle, first mentioned in s2, visits Aang bc Aang basically prayed for guidance. Before he goes into the sea, after being upset with the group for wanting him to kill, he puts out fruit and lights incense and meditates/prays for help. The lion turtle, an ancient being, answers his call. We've seen that kind of stuff in avatar before, like the Guru finding out where Aang is through reading Appa's energy, and the banyan tree that gives Aang a vision of Toph in s2.
@@JunkoEnoshima. No, of course not--it's everything else I said. The Lion Turtle showing up is not deus ex machina--Aang deliberately asks the universe for help by putting out food, lighting incense, and praying, and the universe responds. That is not deus ex machina, bc it's been a consistent part of this world building (and is part of the buddhist/hindu/confucianism thoughts the show often uses). So this bit, an ancient spiritual being responding to Aang's genuine prayer for guidance, has definitely been setup throughout the show. The world has a connection to Aang as the avatar, and it actively guides him at moments of crisis, especially when he asks. That's been set up in every season. We also see it when the swamp literally pulls Aang in and gives him visions of Toph before he ever met her. We also know, through the story with the guru and the swamp, that there is such a thing as reading energy. It's how Aang finds Appa in the swamp, how the guru reads where Aang is, how Aang gets a vision of Katara in trouble. So reading energy --> bending energy. There's a basis there already. Deus ex machina is a term for something that has not been set up, or is inconsistent with the rest of the story. Like this ending or not, the lion turtle segment was not that, imo. It feels really in line with the show, and has a foundation it's working off of, and is consistent with how this world operates. It's new, but not a deus ex machina. If that setup wasn't there, and Aang randomly took his bending away without the philosophical/ancient elements or the previous story elements, then yeah, that'd be awful. But they did the work to introduce it.
This is a perfect finale if I had single nitpick it would be Aang recieving the ability to take bending away felt a bit deus ex machina-ish, would have prefered if he just killed Ozai.
100% agree with the first part even though Lion Turtles themselves got teased multiple times the energy-bending felt very deus ex. However hard disagree with the second part: Aang isn't just the Avatar (in which case killing Ozai would have been an acceptable solution), but he is the eponymous "last airbender". The firenation starting with Sozin tried to destroy Airbending culture; if Aang had forsaken his culture for a victory by killing, Aang would have lost himself and Ozai would have finally succeeded in death. The energy-bending solution was a good way to have Aang keep his ideals. The problem with it is just that it wasn't set up enough.
A just absolute cinema detail about the last agni kai is that Zuko actually uses a lot of different styles from different nations and when he does you can hear the sound of water, air, earth or fire showing that just like his uncle said he mastered fire bending by understanding the different nations.

No eyehole
Why didn't watch Bleach? 😭🙏

Korra is mid.
A few amazing moments in a bellow average show.
Nah, it's just as good if not better
This is a perfect finale if I had single nitpick it would be Aang recieving the ability to take bending away felt a bit deus ex machina-ish, would have prefered if he just killed Ozai.
Thematically, it makes more sense of what Aang did, though they should have at least built it up better.
I was cheering for azula in this fight. I had hoped Katara to die.
But oh well...every story needs happy ending i guess.
Umm tf? Nah we good on that. 🤣
I feel bad for azula she crying hurt me 😢😢😢😢😢😢
