This PEDAL will CHANGE YOUR LIFE! - My Recording Setup

  • This pedal will change your life! I promise! Whenever I wanted to play Slipknot while I practiced Sum 41 in Drop D before I totally was frustrated... The string gauge was simply wrong and also the tuning stability of the guitar got lost when detuning to Drop B. So I limited my playing to a close range tuning group of bands - and used different guitars of course! It was getting annoying when I got my first Floyd Rose guitar and couldn't detune it as low as I wanted it to be because - you know why! I stumbled upon the Whammy DT by Digitech and my world became a lot different from one day to another! Hope this video was helpful!! Pitch Shifter and effect pedal in one! Pretty big and heavy but it rocks!
    Stay tuned and rock on!

    No guitar cover today hence my week has been pretty full with my dayjob xD BUT! You guys asked me a lot how I manage to play so many different tuning with the same guitar! This is why I thought I might explain the Drop Tune Function of my WHAMMY DT to you guys! IT'S MAGIC!

    You are absolutely right I bought that paddle of Sweetwater and it changed my life forever and now I regret buying those expensive baritone guitars my mind exploded like a bomb!!

  • @austinfailz
    @austinfailz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The pedal should be as close to your guitar in the signal chain as possible. Optimally, it should be Guitar -> Whammy DT -> the rest of your pedal board -> Amp. I find 2 octaves and dive bomb (3 octaves) down on the whammy to be far too much, and pretty unusable. 1 octave down is very useful, and good enough for doing divebombs. Use 2nd down (full step) and then move it slowly in order to tune to 70s and 80s albums as close as possible (as they were rarely at 440).

    • @austinfailz
      @austinfailz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, for Van Halen I, I would've used the 2nd down on the whammy with a guitar in E standard, rather than the drop tune. If memory serves Eddie used an odd tuning, and it is I believe slightly above Eb as well. This way, you can find a spot in the middle of the whammy pedal that'll get you much closer in tune with Eddie on the record. Eb sounds a bit too low, and E standard is definitely too high for DLR era Van Halen. As with most 70s / 80s records, the tuning drifts throughout the records, so it is kind of a nuisance if you want to play in tune to a bunch of tracks from different bands (or even the same band, for that matter).

    Still laughing about that intro haha. I am so, so glad I followed your recommendation and bought this pedal. It really has changed my life. There's so much stuff I can play now, like Oversense songs. :) I thought about getting just the drop pedal part on its own because it's a cheaper option, but I bought the full-fat version because you never know when you might want to get your Morello on, and now my fixed bridge guitars can dive bomb!

    There is a bit of a difference.
    Not a huge difference but once you start going through pretty drastic string gauges and neck Lengths the sound changes quite significantly.
    Due to the string tension and striking characteristics.
    A blue string will tend to have a lot more of a floppy sound and can even hit the guitar neck creating a repercussion.
    Although most people probably won't notice the difference or even know what I'm talking about. Lol

    Hi, nice video, I also like to play Rammstein's songs with this pedal, from "Adios" in drop D to "Mein teil" in drop C in just a second 😍.
    Question have you played with the drop and whammy effects at the same time without problem?. I have done that to play "Nobody" of Skindred, but I notice that if I drop my guitar to drop C and activate the whammy, the tone is a little bit higher and it does not sound exactly lile Drop C and I think it doesn't sound like the original song.
    Sorry if I wrote something wrong, I'm not english native speaker 😅.

    It is a great tool for sure in the way you used it for, but for me, back in 1994 Whammy Pedal already changed my life. It was march/april-ish of that year when I heard "Becoming" by Pantera and the sounds Dimebag threw out on that song and record. Few years later I saw them live and Dime doing his magic with that pedal - my world wasn't the same. Personally I have different guitars for different sounds and tunings, but having only a one-to-go-with, that pedal will do its job - other than that you can do really wicked stuff with it. Eventho' I have DigiTech Whammy myself, I haven't use it that much. Perhaps I should. Thanks for the good vid JJ!

    the inherent problem with pitch shifting and or shifters in general is latency..but a few have been able to almost over come that entirely...the whammy does a decent enough job...but the pitch fork as well as a pedal i dont think you can get anymore called the morpheus droptune as well as a few others that realy have dialed in the latency problems all the way down the octaves...i have tried them all for the same reason..i did not want to use a bunch of guitars..just wanted to use my favorite guitar..the best one of the dozens of them that i tried had to hands down be the morpheus because of it's almost zero latency..but for versatility in a broader picture..you cant go wrong with the whammy..have had one since it came out and the original whammy pedal as well..allot of fun to be had and worth the money for sure...great video girl..and did i mention how absolutely stunning those blue eyes of your are..so radiant you are...be well and keep rockin girl.

    You touch in that subject of latency and frequency issues when it comes to detune in lower tunings. BUT what if set my guitar to a Standart C# with 0.11 - 0.12 strings set and then use the wammy to play on STANDART A? The latency and frequency issues would persist or not? (PS: I wanna play it without distortion 100% clean)

    have you ever tried an eventide pitchfactotr? not the same thing as the whammy, but does pitch effects and much more. i have one, and for pitch effects, it tracks way better than anything else i've tried. it also is stereo capable, and accepts xlr in and out. i'll warn you though - it does so many things you could spend all day just playing with it and making sounds.

    I bought it last week. It is very useful live but I do not like what it does to the tone so I would not record with it. For recording, I'd still use different guitars if needed.

    Wait so question before I go on and spend 300 dollars on this thing. If I want to be able to reach... standard tuning, Eb standard, drop B, drop C and drop D... what should I tune my guitar to? And will this pedal be able to help me reach all of those?
    Thank you before hand for the answer. Your video isn't even a review and I think it's better "review" than all of them out there!
    Lastly but not least... Jesus Christ you play amazing!!! I love lots of your videos and covers. I appreciate your time, and knowledge. Best wishes.
    P.D.; my ONLY guitar has a floyd rose bridge please don't make me swap more strings on it 😭🤣

      I saw you answer part of the question down below already... for standard tunings you need a standard tuned guitar. For drop whatever tunings. You need a drop tuned guitar. Now the question remains... from which tuning tunings can I reach most if not all tunes, and can this pedal do it?

    Hey Jassy, I know this video is a bit old so I hope you still see this comment. Couple questions for you: 1) did you ever try the The Drop pedal from Digitech? In case you did, any thoughts on how it compares to this one? 2) have you ever tried downtuning(or uptuning) your guitar via software?
    I'm curious because I moved to an apartment so right now I don't have amps and only play via my Audient iD4 audio interface and the Archetype: Gojira VST, and I know it has a pitch shifter function but I'm not having so much luck in making it work.
    I'd also love the be in a situation where I can just keep my first guitar in E Standard and the second in Drop D and then downtune to play everything I can but again, just via software I'm not having much luck.
    That said it's crazy to think I saw your channel for the first time like 10 years ago when I picked up the guitar and now that I'm restarting you're still here making awesome videos :)

    I have the original Whammy, and it doesn’t have the detune feature. But obviously it can be detuned dynamically with the expression pedal. However I just don’t think it sounds right. I might trade in the old whammy for a new one.

    However you got the dropped pitch but the feel is not same as playing with the real fat gauge string so I totally don't love to use the whammy DT I prefer the basic whammy just for increasing the pitch ✌️
