Wow the interior looks great. Aesthetically and ergonomically fabulous.
Other than the fact that the door and the dashboard don’t line up at all once you open and close the doors for about a week. :) But not that big of an issue.
The sound of smooth leather from a new steering wheel rolling off the fingers is really satisfying
These cars have great interiors. Utilization of space and I love the materials used inside as well

I like how the interior is designed and Ford has really listened to its customers by actually putting buttons on the centre console.
I still think the V6 is a better partner for a car/SUV this big and heavy. On the lighter Escape a 4cyl turbo works, but I'm not so sure on a Explorer.

All the same. Yeah SUVs are off-road capable while CUVs aren't but the lines are so muddled at this point I simply stopped caring.
Trades46 Yeah, Ford (and most of the auto makers) makes their CUVs as similar as possible to a SUV to the point to the difference being near impossible to tell, some CUVs actually have some off road abilities but others are simply fatted wagons (like the explorer) the only way to tell if your car is a CUV is measuring the ground clearance or getting off road and see how much pieces of plastic and oil stains do you leave on the floor.
sad days we live into now but, hey at least unsecure soccer moms are not driving gas guzzling suvs, with no idea what 4-hi-lo means and greenpeace is no longer trying to burn down every hummer and range rover on earth, eh?
Well the Escape only goes as high as a 2.0 liter turbo engine whereas the Explorer has a 2.3 liter turbo engine.

I have a 1996 explorer with a 5.0 302 v8 we owned it since 2001 and never left us walking. I wish explorers still had the 5.0

I hav2 commend Ford on how quietly this SUV rides & how upscale the black interior looks. Nice bright trim & accent touches. This is what I'm comparing the Hyundai Tucson to. Not too far off in pricing but in the Tucson, even the Limited, you get a Spartan looking sea of all black inside. No focal point in textures, shiny trim or accent pieces other than around the touch screen on dash. Ford got it right!

HOLY CRAP that turn start-up chime and (especially) the turn signal sound is ridiculously annoying.
It's got one of the best sounding door chimes in the automotive business. What are you talking about??? Go back to GM's annoying "bong bong bong bong" chime then, Lmao.
+Patrick Sohaney That turn start-up chime is on all Ford products and it's very anoying indeed. I drove a recent Fusion well equiped for a few days two years ago and the car was very nice but the ring tone got so much on my nerves that I told myself I would ask the dealer to shut that thing off.... If it was not possible, I would simply look elsewhere... That being said, the fit and finish and the insolation is very nice in the recent Ford products. I only wish they would have competitive prices (even with their big sales). For the price of a Fusion SE with leather, you can get a well equiped Honda Accord. The ride is nicer in the Fusion but Honda parts are undeniably good quality in long term.

Well, I had a JGC and the TIPM went bad. There was a recall but the solution was a jerry-rigged wired harness around the TIPM. No good. I complained about it enough where I got the last TIPM in Houston. Still the V6 is sluggish compared to the Explorer Ecoboost twin turbo. I traded in my JGC for a 2106 Ford Explorer Platinum. I love my new Explorer.

Amen brother. What are they thinking? I have the 16’ limited and I wouldn’t buy a 2020 or newer. I just reviewed the Chevy traverse and they are dead on with the interior design. The tablet looks like it’s built into the center stack but you can hit a switch and it rises up. So cool. If I’m spending my time inside I want a driver centered dashboard!!!
Ways to ruin an Explorer, #1: Remove the v6 and replace with a buzzy 4 banger.
#2: use interior chimes that sound like they were ripped off from a 1980s 8-bit video game.

Is it just me or do I hear an awful lot of rattles inside that interior?
Jordan F yeah I hear it too, reminds me of my brothers 2005 Focus, everything rattles and shakes. Personally I wouldn't own a Ford.
Only reason I mentioned it was becuase I chose a 15 CR-V Touring over the Explorer. My CR-V does have some interior creaks and rattles but nothing that bad! I really only notice it going over bumps and stuff but this Explorer, man it was the whole test drive!
Jordan F I agree, I currently have an 2003 Civic with just about 200,000 miles and the interior parts only rattle going over rough pavement. Wouldn't mind upgrading to a new 2017 civic.
I test drove a 2016 Civic. It's a nice car and handles very well. But yeah, I guess no car will be perfect.
