  • Band-Maid is a Japanese rock band formed in 2013. They gained international attention for their unique concept of combining the maid costume imagery with hard rock music. The band consists of members Miku Kobato (vocals, guitar), Saiki Atsumi (vocals), Kanami Tōno (guitar), Misa (bass), and Akane Hirose (drums). Each member adopts a maid persona as part of their stage presence, which has become a trademark of the band.
"Dice" is one of Band-Maid's popular songs and comes from their 2018 album "World Domination." "Hate" comes from their 2023 EP, "Unleash."

It was 1pm. I was there and it was actually not the main stage but a smaller stage and they blew everyone away, not even close, and got great write ups in local papers and even rolling stone for this performance. Not to mention it was in 90s temp wise with a heat index around 100 degrees and they spent an hour in direct sun going this hard. Never have I respected a band more.

Thanks for the reaction and comments. Despite the circumstances, these ladies were absolute FIRE!!!!! They played their hearts out, exuding tons of energy and perpetual joy under less than ideal conditions. I'd never heard of Band-Maid until they performed here at Lollapalooza. Needless to say, I was blown away by their performance and have been a diehard fan ever since. It's almost criminal that they don't have a larger fan base both here in the US and abroad. These ladies are arguably the best live rock band on the planet. Cheers!

All the members were super fired up for this festival.
Akane (the drummer) broke two sticks. The platform she was on kept moving ( you can see the rack toms swaying).
Many rave reviews and a lot of people saying they should have been a headliner.

Thanks again for the reaction Masters Glenn and Adrian. If I remember correctly, they were a relatively last minute invite and they were the second act on this stage (Coinbase), at 1:45pm in the afternoon. As for the stage, based on the Lallapalooza set-up, this would be the stage which shares the space with the mainstage (the T-Mobile stage), so the #3 stage? I would think the Bud Light stage is the #2 stage base on size of the stage, the groups playing and timing of the groups. The night before, about 13 hours before they did this set, they were part of the Lollapalooza After Show at Park West, where they did a full show. It's been a while since I was looking into this stuff, so fellow Maidiacs who where there...feel free to correct me. PO!🕊 WORLD DOMINATION!🤘😆🤘

And they were given a 1 hour set which is longer than they generally get at a Festival up to now. It was very hot, Misa had to put shoes on after the second song as the stage was burning her feet and Saiki collapsed from heat exhaustion after she left the stage. Akane seemed to be in a ferocious mood as she manged to break 2 sticks, also they had several technical issues going on which were dealt with on the fly. Akane's drum kit was a bit wayward, eventually her twin pedals came apart at the end of No God. One of Kanami's pedals was playing up right from the get go, the Eventide H9 I think judging by where Daisuke was working on her board. At first it looked as if Kanami thought she just had a tuning issue and it was not until about 20 minutes in that they realised it was the Eventide. It didn't really get 100% sorted as her guitar tone sounded a bit off to me right through. I gather Miku also had an issue at some stage but I never noticed a problem. Nevertheless it was a brilliant performance.

i have not attended any of their concerts in person. I have seen many of their concerts via Bluray, livestreams, or fancam video. This concert is reflective of their NORMAL level of performance! They are true professionals who practice hard in order to give their all at a concert. And many fans claim the energy level is always higher than what comes across in any of the videos.

The maids put on a great one hour set that day despite the technical issues they had, the atrocious camera work, the blazing heat, and the fact that they played an 18 song set around 12 hours earlier. They got a nice little write up by Rolling Stone after this performance as well.

I saw them the night before this show at one of the Lollapalooza "Aftershows." It got done I think about 12 hours before this show or somewhere thereabouts. It was also the debut of this mini-medley and the guitar/bass duel for this song. Once again one of the songs on the setlist I would have honestly put towards the back end of most anticipated list and it ends up being one of the best of the night. In this case, the best of the night. These ladies always vastly exceed expectations.

    Suggestions:
    "Blooming" OMV
Do a two for, with "Secret My Lips" OMV and follow it up with "Secret Maiko Lips" OMV by the awesome cover band Band-Maiko. A band which can go head to head with the Maids. Funny how they are never in the same room together.
"Sayonakidori" Acoustic Live Version, for a change up.
"Freedom" OLV drum solo by the Gorilla
"Onset" OLV another kick a$$ instrumental
"Bestie" OMV their latest release. Co-written by Mike Einziger from Incubus with the Maids. Lyrics by our Pigeon Miku. A 90's 2000's rock ballad feel.
"Cross" OLV catchy sing along parts, but doesn't get as much love as it should.
"Domination" OLV often used as a song to introduce people to the band for the first time, although it's been taking a back seat to "Hate?" OLV recently.

    Thanks again @Glenn and Adrian!
Whilst this has some flaws it's still a fun watch, not *everything* has to be perfect. Which allows us to appreciate those *perfect* moments even more!

B-M's whole set at Lollapalooza was awesome regardless of the atrocious camera. But "HATE?" can't compete with the official live version at Yokohama :)

You guys are awesome. Thanks for keeping the Maids in heavy rotation on your channel!
But this Lollapalooza video is so frustrating to watch as a fan of Band Maid.
The live videos from the 2018 Zepp Tokyo show are legendary. Pick any one and it’s a gem. For me (and most Maidiacs), their progressive, thundering and fun “Moratorium” is quintessential Band Maid. A top ten amongst nearly everyone. Thank you for considering it for a future show 😊

If it hadn't been for the incredible 3½+ Yokohama okyuji, Zepp 2018 would still be my fave live concert. It still has B-M's best ever set list tho :)

@@GaryHolloway-810 Saiki’s performance on “Don’t you tell ME” was spectacular. She was obviously giving 110%, extra grrr’s and all…I wonder if she was making up for her slightly out of breath Zepp show? Maybe you could ask her next time you see her? 😏

This is a brilliant performance by Band-Maid, but the film director needs to be slapped, just sayin! I got to see them a few weeks later and they did a repeat of this pair of songs and left me breathless!
