Nice restoration of the Pexto screwdriver. I like how you left it with some patina. I’m learning a lot about older tools and on what to use and how to restore the tools. Thank you George.
Hello Charles, You just gotta let the project tell you what it needs. At least that's my opinion. This one just needed a little tlc and it's ready to use for another lifetime. Thank you for the kind comment. It really does mean a lot. Take care and be safe.
She looks like she'll be the queen of any collection Nice and shiny with that Sweet stain Like always brother Keep the faith Keep on rocking In the free world
Thanks Brother, I'm happy to have this one for the collection of working tools and how it came back from the grips of the rust. Take care Brother and hope you are doing well.
Thanks Captain Ivan. When you get your hands on one it's gonna be love at first sight. Seriously they are a Goldilocks tool. Made Just right. Take care Brother and I'll catch up with ya later.
Thank You Mr. Bill! No need to go over board if it's just going right back into use. I hope to add some more character to it. Take care hope all is well.
Thanks Jefferey, It's going right back to work so no reason to go over the top, It's just got that well loved look. I'm sure it was someone's go to in it's past. Take care Brother.
Mike,Mike,Mike! Thank you Brother, I couldn't wait to get this one done. They are fantastic tools and I wanted it to have that well used look since it's going to be a well used tool. It's got a lot of miles left in it. Take care Brother!
That is a gorgeous screwdriver! It sure did turn out wonderfully. That is something I would grab and use all the time. Thanks for sharing with us and see you next time.
Thanks Mike, These Pexto are beautiful users..My little one is my go to especially for working on old furniture it fits and feels just right. Take care and give the boys a pat from us.
Uwannawatch, “making tools great again!” It turned out nice George. I’m a patina boy too, those marks tell a story. Sorry ScoutCrafter. I’m glad things went the way they did last night. Maybe we can take America back now. Thanks
Thanks Joe, This one is going right back to work and so no need to go over the top. I hope I can add a bit of my own character to it before one day it goes on to the next guy. Take it easy Brother.
George that Pexto screwdriver came out great.🎉 I has come a long way back from its rusty crusty dirty start. I agree with leaving the handle with some of its scars. It's like a person who served in the military. They have medals and scars, THEY HAVE EARNED THEM by the work they have done!
Thanks Stephen, This one is going right back to work. It just needed to knock the dust off so to speak, It's got a lot of life left in it and honestly these are one of the screwdrivers made in my opinion.
Pexto screwdrivers are nice to look at and great to use. They seem to have the best feel in hand when using. The natural look is also great. Enjoyed the video. Hi to Chrissy and Go Trump.
Thank you Mr. John, You're right, I don't think you can find a better feeling screwdriver. This one is going back to work for sure. Chrissy said Hi back! 😍.
Great seeing you again brother. Good work on the old screwdriver. Hope things work out over there with the change of government. Love and hugs to you and your family mate.
Always great to hear from you my Brother. Thank you, This old screwdriver is going right back to work and I'm happy to have it. Take care and love to the family.
Hey Dan! Yes Sir a little wax goes a long way for these old tools especially with the wood handle it was a bit dry to say the least. Glad I was here for ya, and we'll keep you in our thoughts. If you wanna talk you can e mail me officialuwannawatch gmail.
Thanks Mr. Dale, You really can't beat these old screwdrivers and since this one was in good shape other than the rust it's a clean up and back to work. Take care Brother and if I ever get a day off I'll catch up with ya.
@@Dalesworkshop Oh that sounds fun! No we didn't get to go. We are under a burn ban so no fires. Just didn't seem like a good time. Hopfully we can go in the Spring.
The screwdriver looks good! You could see the PEXTO logo too. I think the patina in the wood looks good. I just did a wood handle on a wrench I was working on and did the same thing. I think you would have had to remove too much wood to get all the patina out if you would have chosen to do that. I really think the patina with the stain looks nice. I also was able to finally pick up some Minwax 209 Natural (Uwannawatch) and Minwax 231 Gunstock (ScoutCrafter). The store I was at didn't carry the BEHR line of products so I picked up a can of Minwax Polyshades Bombay Mahogany (357Magdad uses the BEHR). I really like that Minwax Polyshades, I think that stuff is great!
Thanks Kid, sounds like you are having fun and keeping busy in the shop. I could have used acid on the handles or sanded and used a darker stain but this is going right back to work and I'm sure I'll add my own character to it. Take care My friend and we'll catch up later.
You and ScoutCrafter. ScoutCrafter is whipping his rope with super glue and you are polishing your shaft with steel wool. This tool resto game ain't for the weak.
Nice save on the screwdriver. This must be a rare example. I notice that the the wooden handles attach to the central metal band. The blade, shaft and handle piece is one metal piece, which would make it very strong, and stronger than a separate metal shaft inserted into a wooden handle. Older screwdrivers frequently have tapered shafts like your Pexto. You don't see that on modern screwdrivers.
Thank you Pat! I don't see a lot of the Pexto out in the wild but yes they are extremely strong. I have used my little one on some tough projects and it always comes through. Take care Buddy.
Hey brother, I gotta find something to try the natural stain on. I had a painted perfect handle, but i found out the reason it was painted. Someone used white bondo on it. LOL so now its polished and painted (better) than it was. Have a safe , easy week! I'm off to have words with the code enforcement officer ...........
Hey Patrick, Oh Man I fear the filler especially on vises..LOL. But all you can do is work with it. Hope you have a good week Brother and have fun with that! No easy week for me anytime soon.
A proposed working definition: If it doesn't come off on your hand when you use the tool, you can call it "patina," and go about your business. Anyone disagree?
I like the phrases well loved user, character, patina, sweaty cool, rough and rugged, just set down, doesn't matter to me as long as folks are enjoying themselves and doing a hobby that brings them joy.
Quick internet search answered my questions. I am not very interested in the era of tools that formed Pexto's history, so I am not surprised that I am ignorant and uninformed. Roper Whitney now owns the Pexto brand, which makes a lot of sense to me. Pexto has a storied history. This class of vintage hand tools, like your screw driver, is pretty obsolete. Old doesn't mean unuseful. I have 100+ year old tools in my daily user collection, think vises. The Pexto name is a relative late comer in their brand name history, but still is a very old name. Most of the hand tools that I found are of antiquated and vintage design and style, not very competitively useful to similar function tools that are available today. Thus helps to explain to me why I have never investigated the Oexto hand tool brand. I own a LeBlond lathe that I think dips back into the 1930's. It is still a very viable machine. I need more 3 phase capacity to run it, but its "restoration" is nearly completed. I have too many interests to invest time in salvaging a screw driver like you have done. I appreciate that folk like you care and give me an insight into our hand tool past. I am investing time in mastering some historic trade skills, but I freely blend modern methods and capabilities. Your screw diver restoration may pique some interest in a hand tool era where I have previously been dismissive.
@@paulhunt598 Glad you found the info Paul, Where these old tools shine is doing other restorations. My little Pexto is the perfect fit for most screws on old furniture where even my beloved SK don't seem to fit right. So I guess it just comes down to what you need. Take care my friend.
I really like the results…there’s nothing I like better than taking a rusted tool and going to the wire brush. Very satisfying. Great video!
Hey John, That is one of life's simple joys, and even better we are gonna put this one back to work.
Love the look of it, tools are made to do work, no need to hide the fact that it was used as intended. Thanks for taking us along with you!
Thanks Todd, This one is going to be put back to work so all we had to do was knock the dust off so to speak.
Well george another spot on resto, you got this to the "just right" finish ! It really could not look better 🪛🪛🪛
Thanks Uncle Jim! It's gonna go right back to work so it just needed a little facelift. I'll be adding my own character to it.
Great job bringing the screwdriver back to life!
