      I agree about Jay, perfect person to be looking at something like this and taking us all along for a peek at what's coming.
      I also agree that a subscription model is a non-starter for most people. I know it is for me. Many people want to customize _their_ vehicle, make it unique from the millions of others. You can't do that with what is essentially a lease vehicle. They can call is whatever they want but it's a lease. Everyone should think back to the EV1 that GM brought out decades ago, and if you don't know the story there is a good video right here on YT that will get you up to speed quick. When you see what GM did to all those who were in the same position as Canoo proposes to put consumers, you'll have second thoughts about 'buying' a Canoo too.
      Shame because I would really like to own one. But rent, no way is that happening for me.

I've met a several people like these individuals, and they are probably the lamest people to engage with, let alone have any fun conversations.
      They all tend to live in predictable cities, all think alike and not truly think about what others who think differently want. It goes beyond what some people have said. like they are the antisocial, tech guys. No, these people are a different breed... More like drones and yes men to the ideas of a utopia. I actually have a few anti social, reclusive and socially awkward friends, and none behave like these guys. my friends still have a personality inside and out.

      My question from the start was what was the purpose of this thing. Uber/Lyft seems a likely possibility but I didn't get how all the talk about subscription related that . @davefoc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@donaldcombs7270 I agree, but I still wonder about the business model. I'm always troubled by a company that feels a need to develop two things to get started. In this case a new electric car and a new way to charge for their use. If subscription is a good idea go buy some cars from an existing manufacturer and then put them out for subscription. If a big van electric car is a good idea build that and wholesale it to companies that will resell it/rent it out/put it up for subscription. The subscription model doesn't seem to be enough of an idea to justify a new car design. Gig ride share already exists, car rentals already exist, and car leases already exist. If for some reason subscription is a good idea the the companies doing those other things will just copy your idea but do it with cars from other manufacturers.

      The subscription structure is also going to appeal to the eco-minded people. "Oh, I don't own a car" but they still get to have most of the advantages of owning a car.
      It may not be this particular car but the concept for a subscription-based, boring A-to-B ride share has a very good chance of becoming a success, especially in larger cities.

Its ugly af, the interior is weird for the sake of being weird, and their entire subscription service is flawed because either its cheap but the vehicles will get destroyed or its too expensive for anyone to care about.
      But having said that, the times are changing. This is perfect for ride sharing and city driving, people don't necessarily care about looks or performance, and people will probably eat this up or something like this in the future...

    Just finished viewing this video. Have not read a single comment. The first thing I wondered about was Commercial Applications, especially for city businesses. Subscription model is tailor made for fleet operations. This being a skateboard design I can imagine many different utilization's. Stake, Box, and Tool platforms come to mind. Not heavy duty, but very necessary light delivery and maintance services. And, not that it's ready @ 250 radius, but of course, THE TIKI. (Tiki was my 1968 VW Westfalia.)
    Very enjoyable, and I'm sure gratifyingly so for CANOO, to be revised by such an informed autophile as Jay Leno.
    Motor with the cups that did a pinch of salt over your right shoulder move with oil, and the two canoe Stanley that set a speed record. Appreciation of milled surfaces on motor gearing and sealed gearing fluid retention of viscosity. Priceless. You can't buy that kind of presentation. And the guy wears the same kind of jeans that I use every day. Danke, Jay

    At my age I am very glad to have viewed this incredible video. To witness this fascinating technology, the future is now. A chance to save the planet. Thank you. I live on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. As much as I love my car and truck, I would gladly convert to this EV. As I am “Old School”, the subscription concept would be difficult but not impossible for me. I wish I could emphasize and discuss this vehicle usage/need for the islands due to its low environmental impact it would have for us here.

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've been misinformed. EVs don't help the environment at all. You probably think solar panels do the same. Most solar panels are made in China by burning coal. Evs are built conventionally with parts made using resources that pollute. You've been sold a bunch of lies. There is no man-made global warming and EV's aren't the answer. If everyone drove EVs most cities don't have a grid that could handle it. As it is they have rolling brown outs when everyone uses the AC during heat waves. Then wait until electricity is 90% taxed like gasoline and the price goes through the roof. Promulgating the idea of saving the planet with EVs is spreading misinformation which doesn't serve citizens but rather serves left wing governments trying to control their citizens. Hau'Oli Maoli Oe!
