No matter what anyone may ever say about him, I loved watching him on movie screens and television back then and I still enjoy watching him today. I still love and remember him and oh what a handsome man he was.
Troy was my screen idol. His role in Rome Adventure with Suzanne Pleschette was the most romantic love story on screen, ever. Add his role in Parrish as no. 2. I never knew that he had a son. Tragedy in his life seemed to follow him. Still idolize him.
Troy never had a chance. If had gotten as much help from other studio people. Yes he had a problem but who in Hollywood didn't. I think he had a bit of. God inside him.
It's remarkable to see how he rose to fame in Hollywood, becoming an iconic heartthrob of the 1950s and 1960s. However, his battle with substance abuse and the resulting challenges in his personal and professional life serve as a poignant reminder of the toll that fame can take.
It's so sad that some people are not given he tools by Hollywood to coup with fame, that should be a part of the contract, after all they will use them up and spit them out, they could at least give them support when they fall into addiction. May he rest in peace. 😢
His father was Frederick Merle Johnson, the Production Chief of promotional motion pictures of General Motors. His mother, Edith "Dede" Johnson (née Frederickson), was a Swedish retired stage actress.
He was my heartthrob after Summer Place. I have a black and white snapshot of him when a bunch of us girls went downtown Detroit to see him in person. He was so handsome.
How can he had have a son with Suzanne Pleshette in 1974 when they were divorced in in 1964? She was already married to her 2nd husband by 1974. This clip just lost any credibility with that huge misstatement
Ask Keanu Reeves. So little talent, so much money. Awful people have deposited enormous amounts of money being stars. Retched people adored by millions. Good actors ignored by millions. A somewhat weak singer ends up making a billion dollar tour and ends up on Time Magazine. An abomination of Satan on earth has collected multitudes of worshippers, millions of worshippers. Also millions of haters. Millions. The most hard person in the United States of America. A retched TV star. Show Business is a big draw. Money makers command big drawers of cash. To hell with the losers.
Troy Donahue was definitely a heart throb! Donahue's role in the film "Imitation of Life" (1959) was tiny and he played a villain. His character was Frankie, a young white man who beats his new girlfriend, Sarah Johnson (played by Susan Kohner) after he discovers she is black. (btw: Susan Kohner was not black, she was Mexican/Austrian-Jewish) His role in Imitation of Life got good reviews, the character was certainly at odds with his public persona as a handsome, romantic, nice guy. I did not know about Troy's struggles with alcohol or that he had a son with Suzanne Pleschette (one of my favorite actresses). May Troy R.I.P. I offer my prayers and best wishes for the survivors of his family.
No I didn’t know that he went through all of that. I some times wonder where all the professionals were from the movie industry that could have helped him out. Nobody should have to go through things like that alone. Drugs are a hard thing to over come. It takes a lot of patience and understanding and some times you have to play hard ball and get tough with people and walk away. I’m sorry anybody has to go through things like this. Life is hard enough. Bless him.
In Tab Hunters autobiography he wrote that he & Troy had dinner together in the later years. Troy was losing his hair which could not have been easy for someone who was once so handsome. The Castro Theatre showed A Summer Place and Sandra Dee made an appearance before the film started…she did not want to sit through the whole film so she took a walk down Market Street and sat on a bench in front of The Harvest Grocery Store and a homeless man recognized her and asked if he could give her a foot massage and she said yes…..she was so cool !,
@@marknewton6984 I meant as far as the gay thing goes. Troy was married four times total. They always divorced him because of "mental cruelty" because of his addiction.
So as in your header of this podcast , who hates Troy Donahue? I’m sure this creator won’t be answering , which proves you’ll say anything to get a view . Such horse shit !
Faher was a window cleaner, the other Cahnnel says that his father was a professional at a big company in the Motion picture industry - so lets get out facts straight
I believe Troy Donahue died. I would bet his co-stars have died. Just who is it, by name, that hates someone beyond the grave. Troy Donahue was a romantic leading man who career was truncated by the death of President Kennedy, the British Invasion, 007, Hippies and the drug culture, Bonnie & Clyde, Midnight Cowboy. Where exactly was a clean cut romantic actor supposed to fit in? There were no romantic movies being made, and no one was interested in lining up up see them anyway. At the time, Jay Black & the Americans had a string of pop hits, most of which were kinda corny. With The Beatles on one side and The Stones on the other, where exactly did Jay & the Americans fit in? That career ended. Things change. Rap killed Rock & Roll. There were still hundred of talented singers in the USA, but they weren't killing their mothers and screwing their sisters. Rock & Soul got shafted. We the people got screwed by violent thugs.Things change. Lots of Hollywood people had short careers. Lots of unhappy people still working had drug problems. More had alcohol problem. Then cocaine problems. Then sex problems. Troy Donahue played the hand he was dealt. Jay Black lost his fortune in Las Vegas. Sandra Dee got obscured. Rick Nelson was over, over night. The Flying Nun went on to win two Oscars. Life Happens.

Indeed he was! ❤
He certainly was a good looking man! loved his movies too. Have his movies in my collection.
At what point does anyone say we hate Troy Donahue? I hate lying headlines.
They are always ( media) trying to find dirt on people or make it up.

Troy Donahue was a handsome young actor that struggled with alcohol and substance abuse which shows that there was something missing in his life❤

Troy did have a small part in Godfather Part 11. Loved him in A Summers Place.
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! We love A Summers Place as well 🍿
Be sure and let us know when that "gut wrenching" confession of truth about him by his co-stars happens...oh wait it doesn't.

Hold the phone--Troy Donahue and Suzanne Pleshette did not have any children.
They were a gorgeous couple on and off screen, however, their marriage didn't last gestation.
That’s right. Suzanne Pleshette never had children.
LOUSY VIDEO
Says nothing about co-stars despising him and gives false information claiming that he fathered a son with Suzanne Pleshette.
In Tab Hunters autobiography he wrote that he & Troy had dinner together in the later years. Troy was losing his hair which could not have been easy for someone who was once so handsome. How sweet. Love this insight on Sandra Dee. Thanks.
Suzanne Pleshette never had children...so she could not have been mother to his son.
Correction: Troy's son Sean was the result of a casual affair he had. He didn't even find out about Sean until Sean was older.
No, I didn't know that. But his name is part of the lyrics, of one of the songs, sung in Greece (the first of the two movies).
Thanks for the trivia! What is your most memorable role of Troy?
Sad 🥲🥲🥲
I was surprised to hear he married Suzanne Pleshette, as he was gay.
It didn't last.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Tab Hunter? I often confuse the two.
@@amibluefulHe married briefly Suzanne (Troy). It did not last long obviously.
