Think how impactful this song is with nothing but her playing piano and singing. She’s just incredible beyond words. On this album she did production, 100% songwriting, appalachian dulcimer, guitar, piano & vocals. Very few other musicians on the album.
This song is about her relationship with Graham Nash from Crosby Stills Nash and Young when they were together in California. Joni Mitchell is Canadian and grew up on the Canadian praries where we for certain get snow in winter. Cheers 🇨🇦✌
Joni is a poet, painter, singer/songwriter, storyteller, musical genius, and living legend. I came to age listening to Joni beginning in '69 and I'm one of her biggest fans. She is, IMO, the GOAT. Her album "Blue" is my favorite. ☮&❤
In 1969, one week before Woodstock, Joni played at the Atlantic City Rock and Pop Festival. Almost no one there knew who she was. She came up on stage in the middle of all this heavy rock and performed. There were actually people that booed her for interrupting the big bands. She walked off stage, saying "I just sang the same verse twice and nobody noticed". She then came back out and finished her set. I just sat back and enjoyed her. So so pretty. I think i wore the grooves out of my copy of Blue.
Joni is simply brilliant and will always be remembered as a in a class of her own as a songwriter. She has inspired me in my writing and I appreciate her in so many ways. Give a listen to "For Free" - what a beautiful and true story to which you might relate. It's a work of genius.
Sounds like Joni playing the Keys. I am surprised too !!! I was 16 when this came out, but I've only heard cuts off the Blue album in the last year !!! Can U believe it !!! Now Case of U is my fave !!!
plus play piano, dulcimer, multiple guitars and perform and record all her own studio tracks. And paint beautifully. Her paintings sell for 5 to 6 figures ($). She has 5 Grammys. Was good friends with Jimi Hendrix and Prince (he did an incredible cover of "A Case of You").
Joni says often, that she paints with words and music! She is a very good painter and calls herself a painter who also writes word and music and sings. And yes that is Joni Mitchell playing the piano.
Joni, a Canadian musician (multiple instruments), songwriter/poet, painter, and singer extraordinaire. This album (Blue) is my favorite of hers. Please also check out "Help Me" and "A Case Of You." Led Zeppelin's song "Going to California" was written about Joni.
Another great singer/songwriter from this era is Tracey Nelson "mother earth" and "down so low" are two of my favorites. Not as famous as Joni Mitchell but loved by us old musicians! Please react!
Graham Nash and members of CSNY were worried that Joni exposed too much of herself in her lyrics and exposed her vulnerability to the world. Thank God she didn't listen.
You've already done "Case Of You" from the "Blue Album. Need to do "California" from the same album. Those are the best two cuts imo and the whole album is simply awesome! A work of art! Maybe you can try to do the video performance of her on that one. She's really awesome to watch perform as well as listen to. Oh, and her live rendition of "Woodstock" where's she shows off that nice piano playing skill that you like.
This song was about her breakup with Graham Nash. A CASE OF YOU was about her affair with Leonard Cohen. Compare and Contrast with Taylor Swift. YIKES!
Joni MItchell pulls the sorrow out all of our stupid faces. She moves behind the masks. Your ridiculous grins bely the fact that you all could feel anything.
Excuse me guy why are you jamming to this song. It's not even a fast track. The two of you should be LISTENING! to this beautiful song. Not swaying. It looks so ridiculous.

I love the way she plays piano. Her piano work on Court and Spark is also phenomenal.
After forty years this song still brings tears to my eyes. The voice, the lyrics, the piano playing-it doesn't get any better.
she plays the piano!!! and also paints on all her music!!
The saddest, most moving song, ruminating about lost love during the Christmas season.
This song is about her relationship with Graham Nash from Crosby Stills Nash and Young when they were together in California. Joni Mitchell is Canadian and grew up on the Canadian praries where we for certain get snow in winter. Cheers 🇨🇦✌
She gets deeper and deeper into jazz as she goes. She is brilliant.
Oh she's playing the piano. Yes, Joni evokes images so vividly with her song writing
That was she playing. She plays keyboards as well as guitar and you know how she plays that.

A Case of You makes me cry every time. Joni Mitchell is a Goddess
This one make's me tear up as well...

Yes......she's from the city just north of me Saskatoon Saskatchewan......very cold winters here
You guys have great taste. Joni Mitchell is hugely important and influential, a genius. Listen to her chord progressions omg so creative and original.
Dudes it's fucken Joni Mitchell so ya she can sing, and not to mention the greatest lyricist in the world.

My favourite Christmas song!! By far!!!
I reaaly hope that you 2 have delved deeper into Joni. She is not only a past treasure, she is immortal! Get her albums.
The saddest Christmas song. And one of the most beautiful.
oh, our Joni is DEF playing the piano.
One of the things I admire about her is she looks into her own soul. She doesn't point fingers at any one else. She owns her own shit. Brave.
My other favorite Joni song 😘❤️😂😍✌️
First heard this song last winter. ♥ it but always makes me cry
"he loved me so naughty it made me weak in the knees".
Joni says often, that she paints with words and music! She is a very good painter and calls herself a painter who also writes word and music and sings. And yes that is Joni Mitchell playing the piano.
Everyone should own her Court and Spark album. She also wrote the song that CSN made popular...Woodstock. You need to hear her version.
She is playing the piano. I was very lucky to have heard her live once. I'll never forget it...
Heartbroken JINGLE BELLS intro and outro played by Joni Mitchell on piano.
I'm sure you know this by now...she's playing it!
I have a lot of favorites when it comes to her music but this is definitely top 50 to #1 depending on my mood

Joni is an artist. Sometimes she uses paint, sometimes she uses words and music.
Another great singer/songwriter from this era is Tracey Nelson "mother earth" and "down so low" are two of my favorites. Not as famous as Joni Mitchell but loved by us old musicians! Please react!
Rolling stone magazine named Joni's Blue album the fourth biggest seller ever to come out of the Rock era. Great choice......
I'd add a comment but Joni said it all
Graham Nash and members of CSNY were worried that Joni exposed too much of herself in her lyrics and exposed her vulnerability to the world. Thank God she didn't listen.
Thanks for summing up IG so well. lmao.
THIS IS PROBABLYYY THE BEST RELATIONSHIP CONCEPT / STORY ALBUM EVERRRR SO, IT'S REALLYYYY GOOD! :) 1971 ( BLUE )
You've already done "Case Of You" from the "Blue Album. Need to do "California" from the same album. Those are the best two cuts imo and the whole album is simply awesome! A work of art! Music is based on "Jingle Bells' played in a minor key... sort of.
Yes she plays piano too
It’s JONI playing……it’s ALL JONI.
Just her and her piano. Exactly right for the song.
Blue (1971)
Joni produced Blue herself. She knew exactly what worked. Track is just her on piano; her signature guitar is not featured at all.
Watch the live video "Raised On Robbery" by Joni Mitchell. Jaco's bass playing is amazing.
He stands out on the "Hejira" album.
This song was about her breakup with Graham Nash. A CASE OF YOU was about her affair with Leonard Cohen. Compare and Contrast with Taylor Swift. YIKES!
The only Mitchell song which has been covered more times is Both Sides, Now.
Suggestion. Listen to Joni's music chronologically.
If course it is Joni playing piano
This whole album is about the end of her relationship with Graham Nash.
The Blue album is the to go album
YOU RECOGNIZE THE SONG IT'S PLAYING??? :) JINGLE BELLS
Joni is playing the piano. Mostly self taught
Devastating song.
She's playing the piano.
Try out All I Want and Blue from this same album
If you're a big fan of Joni, and Jewel, have you heard of Brandi Carlile? You would love her!
Carlisle just performed the entire "Blue" album at Carnegie Hall! And once before in LA with Joni in the audience. No pressure there...
Funny how people react. You don't seem touched by the sadness.
Joni MItchell pulls the sorrow out all of our stupid faces. She moves behind the masks. Your ridiculous grins bely the fact that you all could feel anything.
YOU KIDS ACTUALLYYY DO SOME REAL MUSIC ONCE IN A WHILE HUH??? :) THAT'S GOOD, I KNOW YOU DID RUSH BEFORE TOO SO, VERYYYY COOL! BE SAFE AND WELL
You don’t have to react to every second to maintain people’s interest.
Excuse me guy why are you jamming to this song. It's not even a fast track.
The two of you should be LISTENING! to this beautiful song. Not swaying. It looks so ridiculous.
