  • In discussing management of this rare autoimmune illness, Dr. David Fernandez, rheumatologist at HSS, addresses myositis-specific autoantibody testing that can help better predict the course of disease, and current research and clinical trials.
Dr. Fernandez has been a site investigator for several myositis clinical trials at HSS, some of which are currently ongoing and is interested in collaborating in clinical and translational research efforts. His focus is on the care of people with myositis, as well as translational research centered on inclusion body myositis. His current research with colleagues at HSS is focused on single-cell RNA sequencing of CD8+ T cells from blood and muscle of inclusion body myositis.
This presentation is offered by the HSS Myositis Support Group, a free monthly support and education program for people with myositis and their loved ones. To learn more about HSS Myositis Support Group, visit www.hss.edu/myositisgroup.

I think me and my father have this. He has been undiagnosed for over 13 years. He has 2 positive test now, and his muscle biopsy is scheduled. I have been sick for 2 1/2 years with no diagnosis. I’m starting the blood test now. It has been a frustrating experience. I hope we finally get some answers.
