I'm sorry but I can't give specific, individualized medical advice here, and when I see them, I delete comments from others that attempt to do the same since I can't vouch for the accuracy of any of it. However, I can say that there are forms of vasculitis that only have obvious manifestations in the skin.
Thanks for the video! Training pre-Internet, I did not have these resources to learn/ review medicine. Thank you also for the systematic breakdown of different symptoms by vessel size and what to look out for.
I'm surprised to see erythema nodosum listed as a common clinical feature in vasculitis. I'm a med student in Finland and our guidelines on erythema nodosum make no mention of vasculitis as an etiological factor. I made a quick search on the topic and found a paper explicitly stating that erythema nodosum is not associated with vasculitis (Schwartz et a; American family physician 2007, 75:695-700. PubMed ID 17375516). I didn't find any articles supporting an association between the two. Could you clarify?
Thanks for the comment. As noted in another comment below, I was attempting to publish this video ASAP after Harold Ramis' death, and didn't double check everything as thoroughly as I normally do (which I now know to do for future celebrity deaths...) However, erythema nodosum has been described in vasculitis, just not as commonly as the video implies, and not specifically in medium vessel vasculitis as the chart incorrect indicates. First, it's seen in ~1/3 of cases of Behcet's disease (dozens of papers, here is just one: Chajek T, Fainaru M. Behcet's disease. Report of 41 cases and a review of the literature. Medicine (Baltimore). 1975 May;54(3):179-96. PMID: 1095889). It has also been uncommonly reported in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Barksdale SK, et al. Cutaneous pathology in Wegener's granulomatosis. A clinicopathologic study of 75 biopsies in 46 patients. Am J Surg Pathol. 1995 Feb;19(2):161-72. PMID: 7832276). And has been reported in Takayasu's arteritis (Frances C, et al. Cutaneous manifestations of Takayasu arteritis. A retrospective study of 80 cases.Dermatologica. 1990;181(4):266-72. PMID: 1981565). An interesting case report of recurrent erythema nodosum being ultimately attributed to an initial presentation of Takayasu is here: Gupta M, et al Recurrent erythema nodosum: a red flag sign of hidden systemic vasculitis. BMJ Case Rep. 2013 Apr 9;2013. PMID: 23576669). Regarding the article you've cited, I can only speculate about the contradiction. First, the authors may not consider Behcet's disease to be a vasculitis. Although there is some clinically irrelevant disagreement as to the categorization of the disease as either a primary vasculitis, or as a disease associated with a secondary vasculitis, it doesn't show up at all on some classic lists of the vasculitides that you may come across in general med textbooks and review books. Another potential source of confusion, and this is with the caveat that I am far removed from being a dermatopathologist, but the authors of the Am Fam Phys paper seem to consider the presence of vasculitis on a skin biopsy as an exclusion criteria for diagnosing EN. Interestingly, some of the aforementioned papers refer to the skin lesions seen in some of these vasculitis patients as "erythema nodosum-like" or the patients having been given "a clinical diagnosis of erythema nodosum". This suggests some distinction between EN diagnosed on clinical grounds, from EN diagnosed from biopsy. But adding to the confusion, some papers that I've just been skimming about the pathology of EN suggest disagreement on whether vasculitis on biopsy even excludes EN. The bottom line, legit EN appears quite common in Behcet's disease, and EN-like lesions (i.e. clinically indistinguishable from "true EN" on biopsy) are occasionally reported in Takayasu's and granulomatosis with polyangiits. In retrospect, I should not have listed EN as "a clinical feature commonly seen in vasculitis". I'm adding an annotation to clarify for future viewers.
I was diagnosed of vasculitis last year ,no management or treatment was done. I Develop heart attack Takasubo syndrome or broken heart syndrome accompanied of severe headache.

Hi I’m 15 years old and I’ve had the livedo reticularis pattern on my legs, arms, and sometimes on my stomach(not as noticeable) and I’ve had it for about 5 years. It makes me very self conscious and I haven’t worn shorts in forever! Do u know if there’s anything I can do about this?
I'm sorry to hear that. To the best of my knowledge, there is no specific treatment for idiopathic livdeo reticularis ("idiopathic" means cases in which the cause is unknown and it's not associated with another disease).
I can't offer specific, individualized medical advice here. I recommend consulting your own physician who knows the details of your personal medical history.
+tracieamoore Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, a rheumatologist is the only person typically qualified to help patients manage most forms of vasculitis over a long time (with a few exceptions). However, if the diagnosis is just suspected and the patient needs to undergo a work-up to confirm or refute it, either a good primary care doctor, hospitalist, or relevant medical specialist should be able to do so.
Very sorry about the omission. For my videos that are intended to provide a broad overview of a general category of diseases to medical trainees, I need to balance thoroughness with "digestability" (i.e. is it a compact enough amount of information for students to click on, watch, and remember) - which I know doesn't help if you're a patient looking for info on a rare disease. Urticarial vasculitis is a immune-complex associated small vessel vasculitis (same category as cryoglobulinemic vasculitis) categorized by urticaria (which unlike most other causes of urticaria, can be painful in additional to itchy) and often (though not always) low complement levels (complement is a collection of proteins used by the immune system). In addition to the urticaria, joint pain/arthritis is a particularly common manifestation. Patients can also have ocular complications, recurrent abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, cough, and shortness of breath (among other symptoms). I just did a search here on TH-cam hoping to find a good, reliable video on urticarial vasculitis to share with you, but unfortunately came up empty.
To the best of my knowledge (and a quick literature search), no. But medications used to treat hyperthyroidism (which could be caused by thyroid antibodies) have been associated with a small vessel vasculitis: www.jrheum.org/content/45/5/686
Yes! Thanks for the comment. I have an embedded annotation pointing out this error, but unfortunately, annotations don't work on mobile, and other viewers may have them turned off. Just pinned a similar prior comment to increase the chance that viewers see it.
Just to mention that we give steroids only when the cause is immune mediated , but if the cause was infection , so the steroid will make it worse . So steroid should be avoided when the cause is infection
sir....can you please make a concise wholesome video on the various aspects and types of pneumonia, throwing light on crisp points of pathology and pathogenesis of the same, and how one can differentiate it from pneumonitis. It would be a very nice package to learn pneumonia.
First, this doesn't constitute individualized medical advice: But, having said that, the "Gluta Drip" is pseudoscientific nonsense. Here's a nice review: sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-skin-lightening-glutathione-injections-safe-and-effective/
No, not usually. Only a small percentage of cutaneous small vessel vasculitis is caused by cancer. It's more commonly associated with infections or autoimmune disease, or is a medication side effect. About half of cases are idiopathic (i.e. no specific cause can be identified).

Strong Medicine ah ok well thank you anyways❤️
Thank you so much.was much needed.
This is great! Thank you very much!
Can one fly while having vasculites pls help
I can't offer specific, individualized medical advice here. I recommend consulting your own physician who knows the details of your personal medical history.
what type of Dr would one go to for vasculitis?
+tracieamoore Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, a rheumatologist is the only person typically qualified to help patients manage most forms of vasculitis over a long time (with a few exceptions). However, if the diagnosis is just suspected and the patient needs to undergo a work-up to confirm or refute it, either a good primary care doctor, hospitalist, or relevant medical specialist should be able to do so.
Quack
What about urticarial vasculitis, I never see any videos on this type.
I just did a search here on TH-cam hoping to find a good, reliable video on urticarial vasculitis to share with you, but unfortunately came up empty.
can high thyroid antibodies cause vasculitis?
To the best of my knowledge (and a quick literature search), no. But medications used to treat hyperthyroidism (which could be caused by thyroid antibodies) have been associated with a small vessel vasculitis: www.jrheum.org/content/45/5/686
I am suffering from this disease man please help, suffering from 20 years

It can go into remission, but not cured.
me amputaron la pierna por tener vasculitis pero después de la amputación la enfermedad desapareció
Great videos.
Small vessel vasculitis causes glomerulonephritis commonly and they tend to have RBC casts.
Yes! Thanks for the comment. I have an embedded annotation pointing out this error, but unfortunately, annotations don't work on mobile, and other viewers may have them turned off. Just pinned a similar prior comment to increase the chance that viewers see it.
Dear Dr. Eric Strong,
Thanks for the reply. I am your big time follower and please continue the good work.
Sir... My biopsy report shows cutenous small vessels vasculities... Is that related to cancer??
Thank you Doctor Strong
I have Behcets syndrome/vasculitis. And a great set of Docs at hospital. Great explaining in video.
Just to mention that we give steroids only when the cause is immune mediated , but if the cause was infection , so the steroid will make it worse .
So steroid should be avoided when the cause is infection
What do you do when the cause is from infection?
I think I have Polyarteritis Nodosa
This is what the late Harold Ramis was dealing with before he passed
I'd rather die than take Cyclophosphamide. Bladder cancer vs Vasculitis?

sir....can you please make a concise wholesome video on the various aspects and types of pneumonia, throwing light on crisp points of pathology and pathogenesis of the same, and how one can differentiate it from pneumonitis. It would be a very nice package to learn pneumonia.
hello :))
i'd like to ask, is it advisable to a person with vasculitis to have a Gluta Drip??
thank you so much!
First, this doesn't constitute individualized medical advice:
But, having said that, the "Gluta Drip" is pseudoscientific nonsense. Here's a nice review: sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-skin-lightening-glutathione-injections-safe-and-effective/
Thanks
Is cutenous small vessels vasculities means cancer??
No, not usually. Only a small percentage of cutaneous small vessel vasculitis is caused by cancer. It's more commonly associated with infections or autoimmune disease, or is a medication side effect. About half of cases are idiopathic (i.e. no specific cause can be identified).
@@StrongMed thank you sir... I'm little bit worry just bcz of biopsy.... Is that curable??

Thanks for the video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you ever tried - Ganrayden Peerless Gratification (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for eradicating your urticaria without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.
Thanks a lot Sir for sharing your knowledge in such a comprehensive way

6:17 'Obama pain' - good one Mr AI - lol!!!
😭😭😭😭😭
This is usless to a common person.
It's not meant for laypersons. The channel's tagline is "free, on-demand videos for medical trainees and professionals". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I disagree. I’m waiting for months to see a Rheumatologist. In the meantime, my cardiologist has suggested vasculitis. After seeing this video I’m sure I have vasculitis and it runs in my family, unfortunately. I’ve been reading for two months and this was a very succinct video. Very helpful. The more I learn, the less fearful I am. Having to wait six more months for the Rheumatologist! That is the worst part.
I'm the common person and I clearly understand the video.
@@Pr0ph3cy-k5z lol of course you do Simon
Thank you Doctor Strong
