Amazing video, if I had to add something, it's that the hate against Aegirian (from Aegir the place) or Aegir (the race) really started after the Profound Silence. They were considered to be the one responsible for the fall of Iberia and its golden age. Since, you know, they come from the sea, seaborns too, or at least, they are considered to be the ones who sabotaged their golden age from the inside with their technology by making mistakes. Breogan, one of the most intelligent engineer of his time, main head of the Aegirian at Iberia, who worked on lighthouses and the Stultifera Navis, this Breogan became the very main target after the Stultifera Navis being missing, and so, considered not trustworthy by Iberian . Luckily, that side of Iberia starts to change, only now, but better now than never. Also: Ah yes Ursus, can I burn the snake again ?
I love me some good video explaining lore for a game. Now we just have to see how this video age, will it be age like a milk or a fine wine. Also can't wait for the more upbeat nation next.... Ursus, hoo boy.
Hopefully it'll age we'll xD most of what's said is in a historical context though as far as my theory that Iberia continues to decline... I hope I get proven wrong in the future lol
There is one thing to say, from the point of view of this video, it seems that Seaborn's threat is somewhat underestimated. Iberia's current problems cannot be solved by simple openness and cooperation. Although this is the direction to solve the Seaborn problem, the specific implementation is very complicated. The countries of Terra have no obligation to help Iberia (even if this issue is related to their own life and death), if Terra can really achieve a great unity, then Kal'tsit might have already retired. In fact, all countries in Terra are willing to let Iberia, a strong competitor for the former hegemony decline, and serve as their first line of defense with Seaborn. In this case, Iberia is equivalent to being isolated and excluded (of course, the inquisition themselves are too aware of this, so they puts on their acts and refuses to cooperate), this is an endless loop, only when both sides start to make changes, This situation can be saved. Iberia is arrogant, due to “the golden age” and its ability to withstand attacks by Seaborn without much assistance. The combination of the two aspects made the inquisition believe that it could gradually solve the problem of Seaborn. Of course, at the end of the Stultifera Navis, Carmen intuitively came to the conclusion that it was time to let go of her arrogance through Dario’s sacrifice and Irene’s survival. It proves that the situation is changing positively for the better. From my point of view, I think that without the Lateran/Iberia Church and the inquisition, Iberia would have already been reduced to the outpost of Seaborn (Even if Seaborn followed his instinct, the Church of the Deep would definitely develop more rampantly and lead more actively Seaborn achieve their purpose), hundreds of times worse than the current situation. Even if the Inquisition is a kind of military government or even a totalitarian regime that persecutes many innocent Aegir, but for such a country that is in disaster and crisis, democracy cannot help them solve the problems of Seaborn and Church of the Deep. And Iberia has never been the most important part. Aegir is the key to the sea descendant problem. At present, this country has been completely infiltrated by its own stupidity and the Church of the Deep, but even so, Aegir still It is the most important force for Terra to resist foreign enemies. The reason why Iberia's attitude is important is that it can become a bridge between Aegir and land-based countries. If Iberia remains conservative and closed, then the cooperation between Aegir and land-based countries will be far away. On the contrary, If Iberia actively seeks the cooperation of Aegir and other countries, it will be more conducive to the unity of Terra, and it will be able to completely solve the problem of sea descendants. In the final analysis, the solution to the sea descendant problem depends on the unity of Terra, and the premise of Terra's unity is firstly to pry open all the mouths of the core countries (Iberia and Aegir) that is indeed harder than to prying open a feathered beast’s beak. (This comment is translated by stupid me🤪 from some CN players, if there’s something you don’t understand with the translation, please do tell me😂😅 apologies for the poor grammar)
It's true the seaborne threat is somewhat understated in this video. That's mainly because the church of the deep will be analyzed later in another video in the future so I didn't want to tangent too much into that. It is true that without the inquisition Iberia would have fallen much sooner, they were vital to keeping order as things fell apart, and I did try to say as much but I may have cut out a bit too much context there so that's my mistake. My main problem with the inquisition is what they've done since. I do think that in order to counter the seaborne threat they need unity with other nations which is why the isolationist stance this new government takes is a problem, most people outside of Iberia either don't know or don't care. Hell the inquisitors have even killed outsiders who discover the seaborne. And with the infiltration it's pretty clear that the inquisition alone isn't enough, and with the way they treat their own people, the regular citizens of Iberia aren't exactly thrilled to help them either. My comment about opening the doors to people from outside the nation was less about other nations helping them, and more the idea of "fresh blood". From a geopolitical stand point, countries need immegration to improve. More people means more jobs, more money and usually more knowledge. Much like how Aegirian immegrants brought the technical knowledge that led to the golden age, bringing in people from other countries can do a similar thing. And they may discover ways to combat the seaborne. Hell imagine how much they could achive had they just worked directly with Rhodes Island instead of this roundabout way with kalt'sit basically a prisoner officially speaking. And that's not even a country... that's just a company. That's mainly why I think Iberia would be better off now with them out of the way or at least more regulated or restructured. They stemmed the initial threat but now seem to be too stagnent and stuck in the past. I should have touched on the fact that Iberia was taking steps towards a new future instead of trying to relive their old glory... especially after the recent EP with thorns, elysium and jordi. But I think at that point I was kinda talking in circles already lol Like I said, I do hope that they can push forward and work towards a new future, and if the inquisition continues to change for the better and adapt to the new times, they might just manage it... I'm just a lot more pessimistic in nature lol I'm still learning to better format these lore videos. It's pretty hard with how interconnected everything is in the story, it's hard to figure out what should be mentioned in a video, and what should be left to another video, so thank you for passing along this comment (I assume from bilibili?) and please let them know I really appreciate the imput to and I hope my future videos will provide better explanations of what I'm trying to convey! :D
I see, you have your point, and would you mind sparing your time replying theirs and some of my own questions? About disregarded the identity of the Iberian inquisition. On the one hand, they are strict inspectors and enforcers responsible for finding traitors (although defined by themselves). On the other hand, most of the inquisition (including the leader of the inquisition - Carmen himself) are active in the front line against Seaborne and there is a risk of sacrifice at any time. From this perspective, they are soldiers and loyal patriot. It was they who protected the civilians and the increasingly fallen Iberian land, and saved Iberia from further fall and even extinction. And would you mind pointing me out where you read the inquisition has killed outsiders that had knowledge about Seaborne, I want to go look back on that episode. For now, I think the inquisition have no self-interest, which is very different from the clergy in Spanish history. And please continue with the style of your videos, love to listen to different people’s thoughts!👍
@@iamaboy7034 In regards to the inquisitors, yes, they are very much the front line force against the seaborne. By the sounds of it, the penal batallion is what maintains order in the rest of the nation, at least to an extent, but beyond that towns are often left alone, which is partly where the feeling of neglect seems to come from. One one hand people don't want the inquisition around as it's always trouble and people don't want to be taken away. But on the other hand when they aren't around I'm not too sure who's keeping order. There's also an assumption I'm making that the inquisition isn't JUST the inquisitors. The inquisitors are often fighting the front lines but there must be a behind the scenes force. There's prisons where aegir are locked up and assumed to be killed, that has to be run by someone within the inquisition. There's a heirachy that the inquisitors are just a part of. Unfortunately I couldn't expand on that as there isn't much source info on that side of the organization. I do think the inquisitors do what they think is right, and a lot of what they do is good! It's more so the organization's harsh rules that stump them in my opinion. In regards to them killing outsiders. It happened in Under Tides. I can't remember when exactly but it was a scene or two before skadi arrives in Sal Viento. A group of bandits (or at least the standard bandit npc art from the grani knights treasure event) were in trouble. A few died to seaborne, a few were assumed killed by Dario and Irene after. And they were interrogating the surviving NPC. In the end that NPC is killed in what was framed as a "no witnesses" kind of action. That's the basis I have for assuming the inquisition doesn't want the world to know what's happening. I do agree though, the inquisition have no selfish desire, their desires are more steeped in nostalgia, and I hope my video didn't make it seem like I thought the inquisition was super corrupt and self serving... if anything the inquisition is actually really sturdy. Like I said it's their harsh rules and practices that cause problems, and their initial persuit of going BACK to how things were. Nostalgia is a bittersweet thing, but it can very easily blind you. (something we see a lot in the real world whenever people talk about "the good old days") Also don't worry! I'll be maintaining my style as much as I can (obviously some changes will happen as I develop more but I like how they are structured atm) I mainly mean how I research and I'll also try to better convey what I mean to avoid confusion and such

I'm curious if you have any thoughts on this. My only hope for Iberia is also that they let go of the inquisition and rebuild itself somehow, which rn I can only see happening in a future where the third ending of IS3 becomes canon. With the seaborn problem solved they can focus on rebuilding. Although I doubt any of that will solve their arrogance. All in all great video, keep it up 👍
Thank you! I really love how much research HG do when they build their world and populate it with stories. Admittedly I don't know too much about the flying Dutchman (besides SpongeBob lol) so I'll have to look into it. I also wonder if the book that shares this events name also inspired anything but I never read it so I can't say for sure. It might only be the name that's similar between it and the AK event
@Daark_Karma Yeah I agree! And those are some interesting possible themes I don't know too much about the flying Dutchman either, but from what I do know, the ship and the ghost stories originate from the Dutch Golden age and the VOC (back then a trade company that did colonism and the like I think). The ship had an accident at sea due to a storm and the crew perished. However both in past and present day people claim to have seen the ship sailing close to where it met its doom. The Stultifera Navis event story reminded me of this a bit. I think it also makes an appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean with a sea creature like crew, however I have never watched all of Pirates of the Caribbea, it's just based on what I did see and hear
I think you missed something pretty big about the current situation of Iberia (spoilers below): The blame on Aegir is not entirely misplaced. Some evidence: 1.) Carmen says that half of the Gran Faro Aegir turned out to be Cultists. You might think that it's a reflexive thing because of Iberia blaming them for being such but... 2.) Aegir itself has fallen or is mostly fallen to the Cult of the Deep. That is why, after the long and arduous task, Ulpianus tells the other Abyssal Hunters NOT to return to Aegir. 3.) This is borne (hehe) out in IS3, where one of the endings involves going to Aegir, at which point Skadi is captured by the Cultists and Ishar-mla is revived (that's the setup for her bossfight). I think the Inquisition were mostly kind, if stand-offish towards Jordi, so at least the modern version is not so harsh as it used to be. Even when Carmen took him into custody he did it with an eye to protecting him from his own desire to intervene. You should read his Y module lore, which is written from the POV of a coworker of Jordi's in the inquisition who is tsundere (yes, really, it's pretty funny)
