@@NickShinzany news you can share on cephalic ? I miss my rocky mountain hydro grind. Not to take away from NP3 tho. That shit has been on rotation since it's release last year and super enjoying the new stuff. I really hope you can convince the leaders to take time from their busy schedules ruling the world to tour.
So neat mate, loving Warwick and Aguilar solution. I’ve been trying to find some CC updating but it’s been a bit hard, always enjoying old stuff tho as ever. I’d really appreciate if you can shuck any update of it..and Cheers for Cephalic🍺🥴
fuck this is some sick shit. Ive been playing bass for 17 years and I don't think I could play this. One of my all time favorite bands, every musician in this group is the best at what they do.
Geoffrey Touton They’re still a band, and they’re still active, according to numerous sites and sources. There’s an interview with John Merryman, longtime drummer, who confirms he’s still in the band, and they were at that point STILL working on the new album. You want my real two cents? Think long and hard on what I say, then read the lyrics, and think about what I said again. In my opinion, Cephalic got slapped with a ten year “no creative works” order. A creative cease and desist, if you will. I feel like they dropped so many truth-bombs on that album, talking about drug use, holographic reality, Jesus’ reincarnation and what it means, Abraxas/Cthulhu, UFOs, and the finer details of equestrianism.
Damn man, just damn. This song really drives me to continue playing the bass. I've been playing for awhile now, and when I saw Cephalic live, I realized that the bass playing is easily the best in the world of metal! Keep on rockin man!
Man that was out of this world! Great to see a bass guitarist in a heavy band with so much groove and feel. And that's the first time I see a metal bass player employ a Wooten-style thumb technique for the fast parts.
Your fucking awesome dude. I saw you play with CC back when you toured with JFAC and the Ocean. I had never heard of cephalic carnage but I heard you test your sound with a little primus (pretty sure it was primus) diddy and I knew you guys were going to take the cake. I've been a huge fan ever since especially since five minutes ago when I just figured out your the guy responsible for all of the amazing bass tones we've been getting from job for a cowboy too so really just mad thanks and appreciation for what your bringing to the metal community through and through!
I really appreciate people that answers some many comments, cause you can give a huge help to ppl, the other cool bassists on youtube doesn't give a shit, thanks man :)
Amazing. That fuckin' fart @1:21 made me wake up the neighbors with hearty laughter. Kudos, Nick. This was both inspirational (even though I don't play bass anymore), and highly entertaining.
Nick, you should do more videos, tutorials, online courses and so on.. It's for you to share your mastery. I was really impressed after listening to NP3 compositions. The first album is a masterpiece!
I love the fact how you look so relaxed when playing this while I throw my bass out the window because I can't play a song 10 times easier. =[ Nice job though, sounds awesomeee.
@FleshStarvingBass Thanks a lot for using me and him in the same sentence! He was probably my single biggest influence to start playing bass. L.D.50 was some of the greatest bass work in metal/rock in my opinion. Haven't met him yet, but I'm going to NAMM in January so hopefully then. Cheers man!
Wow, amazing, a bassist that plays metal and still uses both sets of his fingers and incorporates such detail to make the bass lines sound like they do. Super excited to see you guys on Summer Slaughter! Even moar excited to possibly PLAY with you guys!
Awesome video(Ohrwurm) though I had watched it before. I also didn't know u played a Thumb NT. The Bass sounds even more fantastic here watching you play. Excellent work, Nick
THAT WAS INCREDIBLE! Wow, I love your work everywhere I find it. Im also a bass player, tho armless lol play with my feet. JFAC Doom made me go into this ultima-heavy genre. Such great musicians! That goes also ofc to Carnage! -Drake* (Drah keh)

you are literally on my top 5 list favorite bass players of all time and i only wish i had tabs to play this :/ i learned endless cycle of violence by watching you but this is too much..sad times
Hey Nick, i've been working on this song for a lot of time and i believe i've figured it almost all out, and after months of practice i can finally play the whole thing in a non-insulting way. However i can't for the life of me figure out one thing in the opening arpeggio, that is if when you go on the lower octave (12fret of E) you pluck the four notes going down first (as in proper slapping) or if using the thumb as a pick like in the verse, so going up first. (continues)
That was an epic show by the way, seeing you guys from side stage was badass. I hope we get to play together again. ps as soon as I get the pic of me and you off my gf's phone I will photoshop a giant sandwhich in there. haha.
Just wondering, what gave you guys the idea for the music video? and yeah you fersure are one of the top 5 most amazing bassist i have ever witnessed !
@Bassfordays I would love to watch the video of you describing how to play this (because I've never been able to grasp double thumb or sweeping technique with a 6 string bass and that's the only thing I have). however, you only have 3 videos uploaded and I have seen them all. I can not find the one you are talking about.
Ahhh. Wonderful. Any chance of grabbing Len and King Goldberg by the ear and telling them to reform? Sorely missed by all sensible people. Greetings from Norn Irn! ;)
@Sm3tana these were SITs, custom gauge set. .40 .60 .80 .100 .120 But I'll shift all the way up to .45 .65 .85 .105 .135 Kinda depends on the weather. ha
@Bassfordays oh for sure they can have a time and place, and yes bout losing 'em! Still hand picking I suppose I prefer it to the actual picking sound, especially for fast passages. When you going to post up another video?
absolutely love the song, your skills and all that. my only problem is the aquilar which sounds slightly lacking when the song gets to "non-slappy" bits. might be the youtube tho, the file compression doesn't really do it any justice i guess.
@Bassfordays out of curiousity, how long have you been playing bass for? your technique is amazing! also your tone and everything is absolute perfect! :)
@Eukatheude Thanks a lot man! I know it's a pain tabbing that shiz oot. Eventually wanted to have a tab book of some of my songs though so maybe I'll get to it here ...
(continued) I'd really appreciate your help, i'm almost ready to do a cover of the whole thing and i want to do it right. So yeah, even if you don't wanna tell me, thanks anyway for posting this since it gave me the motivation to learn proper slapping in the first place.
I discovered today that JFAC are playing with Cannibal Corpse on the same day AND same venue as Protest the Hero but they're both playing different rooms. Words cannot express how much that saddens me, would absolutely love to meet you but I'm going to PTH if I have the money :'(
We miss you Nick. We miss Cephalic too
Did he pass away? ._.

Awww you too kind! Pretty far from it, but I thank you for the complement and support :)
Bassfordays Nope...pretty sure she's right. Seriously man, right up there with Les, Jaco, and the rest. God Damn.
Sick! Falling down a CC hole tonight, miss this s**t!
Warwick + Aguilar = Amazing tone
Watched this video maybe 150 times and listened to the song maybe around 3/400, I'm still amazed everytime I hear this.
still listening. GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY HEAD.

if I ever got good enough to play my own style off music on bass guitar, this is always how envisioned it. speaks to me and youre awesome
fuck this is some sick shit. Ive been playing bass for 17 years and I don't think I could play this. One of my all time favorite bands, every musician in this group is the best at what they do.
Never thought, that I need a bass play through of Ohrwurm by an Uschanka wearing dude
But here we are and it gives me all I need right now

The title of this song is so fitting, I just can't seem to get that opening lick out of my head. Fantastic.
