Additional fun fact for the cheesing method: What you hit when building the staircase wasn't a skybox, but the vertical height limit of your workbench. The second workbench you put down would have allowed you to build even higher if you had wanted to.

    • @ESOdanny
      @ESOdanny  3 ปีที่แล้ว +43

I meant the skybox of the workbench, essentually at that point you know your high enough to maintain agro from the boss but not get mobs spawning on you. Thanks for clarifying that its the workbench range to people though, it does sound rather confuseing the way i worded it.

Playing it by myself it really gives me the creeps. I'm just at the Black Forest but I've already seen the Troll, and I quickly ran away from it. Sooo spooky!! And the music is very adequate. This game is marvellous!

I must admit I've already defeated several trolls, but still they can come as a nuisance in the Black Forest, when for example you're digging for some ore and a Troll unexpectedly attacks you, attracted by the noise you make... FYI this boss (and subsequent ones) were recently buffed with higher HP (and possibly DPS) stats in the recent beta patch; though the tree-platform-cheese method still works for some people, bonemass seems to be willing to walk away from you if you're too high to hit with potentially new aggro AI.

I believe the poison resist is 75% reduced, not 50%.
As a reference, normally Blobs poison ticks for 4 dmg, with the potion it deals 1 dmg.
Corpse Run buff giving you the same worded resistance towards physical dmg (Very resistant) states 75% aswell.

    • @emielverbeeren8181
      @emielverbeeren8181 3 ปีที่แล้ว

No but yes. It reduces the damage by 50% and also shortens the duration by 50% so in total the damage reduction is indeed 75%. However if you're being poisoned again and again the shortened duration won't really have an effect. So I would say the actual effective reduction is somewhere in between 50% and 75%

For Bonemass I just got my HP around 130, pounded some healing and poison resistance meads, hopped right onto the big altar skull and shot the mass with 100+ frost arrows. None of the adds or melee attacks can get to you (although the poison may hit you, but that's no issue with the potions). Boom, Bonemass dead in 5-10 minutes on first try.

Got 3 drakes with my bow which was very doable, obsidion galore in the mountains so had 60 frost arrows. They helped a lot. Also was using a crypt to kite him around. In the end it was about 20% hp down with my bow and the rest was kiting around the crypt and making use of the terrain (have him take the long way around while you heal) and just smashing him with my mace. Very rewarding 20 minutes 😀.

Frost damage will effect bone mass unlike piercing, so if you craft some frost resist meads, you can farm a few drakes, then you could probably take him down with a stack or two of frost arrows. Not sure if it is a new addition but we found the iron sledgehammer to be a lot more effective in the crypts. you can use it without having to fully open most muddy scrap piles. just open it enough so you can get close enough to the mobs to do damage from the safety of the other room. (Obviously this will not work every time as some rooms are large and the mobs are too far away from the radius of the sledge but it works 9 times out of 10) Also we just completely Bonemass last night... the iron sledgehammer did not do damage to him at all. We may have had some sort of glitch. Three of us fought him for 4 hours and only got him down to 30% health, by which time we were out of food. We had blobs and skelatons dropping from the trees, on the roof of our treehouse about 10 meters in the air, and it was an impossible fight. We regrouped and came back a couple days later and had him dead in about half an hour using the iron mace. CRAZY battle!

Well, I decided to try my hands at the mountain areas before I ever found a swamp biome. I always build earth walls around my bases. So I built an earthen base at the bottom of a mountain. Then i would walk out into the mountains, placing a fire every few feet, so I didn't freeze. When I saw a wolf, I would shoot at it and run back to my base at the bottom climb up the earth walls and stand on top and shoot the wolves. Once I got far enough up in the mountains to find a nice big solid stone structure, I used my pickaxe to hollow it out and built a home inside with a fire and bed. Then I went outside and little by little I built a wall all the way around the large rock, by raising earth. So yeah, basically I explored way up into the mountains and got the freeze glands, before I ever even saw a swamp biome.

Inspired by this video, a friend and I attempted Bonemass last night. He as the tank on the ground, me on a high platform as ranged (thought we´d combine your methods as I am squishy). He makes the sacrifice, we watch where the lights go - it´s super hard to see - aaaand: all of a sudden all I see is green and I am taking huge amounts of damage and can´t really move. Bonemass actually spawned UPSTAIRS our platform, AROUND me! I can confirm that you can damage him from his insides out, but not for very long^^
So, that was a fun wth moment...

All the setting up you can make to aid in the boss fight reminds me of Terraria, that said it doesn't seem as useful and harvesting materials takes a hell of a lot more time and whatever rickety wooden structure is well, rickety and easily destroyed. The only time I made use of a structure to defeat an enemy was when I was caught by surprise by a troll very early on when I had my eyes on a tower overtaken by skeletons. The height advantage helped me pepper the bugger about 5 times without needing to constantly kite him getting stuck in geometry in the process, but a couple fists its way and the wooden platforms gave in, it was then that I found out in this game you're incredibly resilient to fall damage if you fill yourself with roasted neck and boar before taking the plunge.

There are two methods of obtaining withered bones:
    1) crypts
    2) piles of muddy iron hidden in the ground in swamps (but only those in which bones are visible)

You can get obsidian from the mountains, even a small mountain will give 100-150 of it. Whatch out for the wolves though!

A tree house, a fine bow and wood arrows are the fastest way of training bows - you can do lvl 100 on one Bonemass (you do need tons of arrows, though). You can probably macro it.

I usually go and do this boss if I die and I need to level up my bowskill. Just build a little treehouse some place near the boss, summon him and hurry on up there. If you build it high enough none if his attacks reaches you, so you can stand there and shoot him all you want. If you are maxing out your bow skill (which I highly suggest you should) this is a great way to do it. The bow can be fired in full auto mode almost with no draw time.

another good weapon you can get(if youre willing to go the extra route and search for the merchant and get a bunch of silver) is the frostner and beat up bonemass with it, not only is the frostner silver and have spirit it also does frost damage AND Blunt which is all of the above for Bonemass' weaknesses

I hit the plains and mountains before I killed Bonemass. I actually found a mountain with silver veins sitting above the ground, so I didn't even need the wishbone for my first 160 or so silver ingots. By the time I killed bonesmass I was already working on getting black metal from fulings in the plains.

another cheese strategy: build a teleporter near the boss fight but in a area where he cannot destroy the teleport, then bring food with you, then fight him normally until you die. Teleport back to the boss and go grab your corpse immediately as grabbing your corpse gives you the passive corpse run. The passive corpse run will give you super defense and super recovery for over a minute giving you psuedo god mode for while, eat again to have higher health and fight him again until you die, rinse and repeat until defeated. With a mace it took me about 5 minutes. This can be done with every bosses as teleporter + corpse run is OP.

i found a bronze axe, gaining experience with it, works good on the graugr, but will look into mace in the future. thanks for the hint on finding the location stone in the swamps. been to few swamps with no luck so far. but not giving up.. still venturing out and placing safe camps.. found trenches work better the walls.. or even building wall with the hoe also works good against trolls. the tip on getting and crafting a mace is good news.. thanks for the info

Since frost resist is easily achievable before the bonemass and silver being collectable without the wishbone I would recommend to go for Frostner Hammer and maybe Wolf Armor/Silver Shield. The fight is just about trading skill for preparation time. I annihilated my first Bonemass in full upgraded wolf gear + Frostner + Silver Shield and a good collection of tamed Warwolfes. :D

Damn that 3rd boss is super far away. Tip: for the sunken crypts in the swamp i found if you always go left or right it's easier to not get lost. So i skways picked left. Whenever i entered a new room i cleared the gunk on the left and kept going left in the next room snd just work your way that way. Its way easier.

Obsidian is obtained from the mountains as well, same as the frozen gland. Just craft a frost resistance mead from the bloodbags from leeches in the swamp, don't need to go to the plains.
Frost arrows are easy to craft and can be obtained before fighting bone mass which makes the treehouse method a perfectly easy way to solo it

How to have the most fun against this boss and not be a cheese lord:
Note- No silly farming of plains, mountain, frost arrows etc. needed
    *Food:*
Poison resistance mead - remember to pop another one mid-fight!
    Sausages
    Deer stew
Food of your choice (go meaty for HP)
    *Gear:*
Iron mace or sledge (mace for me)
    Stagbreaker
Optional- spear etc. for stray draugrs
Bow and arrows- finewood bow + 100 flint arrow or better (only to prevent regen, not major source of DPS)
53 armour, 5% movement penalty worked well for me
    *Prep tasks:*
    1. Build a portal as close as possible
    2. Use a hoe to create easier pathing around boss and remove deep pools (30m radius in more than plenty)
    3. Clear nearby mobs and spawners to prevent tougher enemies ruining your rhythm
    4. Optional- back up save
    5. Summon boss
    *Strategy:*
Let the boss follow you generally around the summon altar. It has only three (all heavily telegraphed) attacks to learn. Use roll to evade arm swipes, retreat against AOE poison attacks and use the ooze throw attack windup (mob spawning ooze) to get mace hits in. Use any other openings to get in mace hits and never run out of stamina totally. Allow mobs to follow you and stagbreaker as needed, do not run around chasing anything unless it's a stray enemy (wraith, draugr) you need gone. Be on the back foot always and engage on your terms. Use stagbreaker particularly on blobs to prevent them poisoning you easily, don't underestimate the lethality of stacked poison effects. The poison from the boss' AOE is not bad alone but a few blob attacks and you're quickly in trouble, take note of the mobs around you!
If you find the boss intimidating, spend a while back-peddling and killing mobs while you find your groove. The boss can't do much to you if you play evasively. Eventually, you will find a rhythm and realise this is a really fun fight which is deserving of non-cheesing. To my fellow hollows, you will enjoy this one!

from what I remember when I fought him I had some frost arrows and they did fair damage, not as good as the blunt weapons but still fair and it is not hard to get the stuff to make those before hitting this boss
