@@Hombremaniac Total War: 40k wouldn't work. Guardsmen, Tyranid, Eldar etc. don't do war in formations which is Total War's whole identity. And how would factions like Space Marines work? They work in squads, not in formations of hundreds. You don't see space marines marching towards legions of cultists calmly, then engage and stand still while each take turns hitting each other. Space marines split up and cover wider areas, strike from blind spots, and during melee they are ruthless and efficient. Same with guardsmen on a larger scale, they don't walk in line formation like in Total War games. And Eldar are fast and elusive, they don't amass in giant formations, they try to hit you quickly and stealthily like ghosts. It wouldn't work in Total War. The only faction I can think of that might use formations are the necrons, but even then it's a stretch.
@@xXDonTdODRugZXx Nah don´t agree at all. Even in TW:WH many units are in loose formation, plus that could be tweaked further. Space Marines could be made so that they charge, discharge weapons during this phase and then automatically go into melee. Strength of units would be, same as in TW:WH, based on the stats as well as on number of models. Heck, we have Ogres in TW:WH and those could be good base unit for Space Marines. Obviously WH:TW 40K wouldn´t be 1 : 1 to how table top plays, but hey, it´s not even for Fantasy battles and it works just good enough. And if they could add also space combat, perhaps a bit like in Battlefleet Gothic: Armada (with better AI obviously), it could be such a TREAT!

The battle would be over in a minute
As far as i know the first tanks in ww1 under the British and Germans were operating with that mindset, mobile bunkers with much higher killrates due to their mobility and armament but ultimately serving to help the infantry do the one thing it can't operating in an entrenched position. Be entrenched and also advance from their current position, offensively through firepower, defensively behind metal plating.
@@Vineor It was still an early form of the combined arms doctrine. Not as effective, but a start nonetheless. Also in WW1 many tanks were falling into enemy hands, due to crap leadership decisions. Many times the tankers recieved only one command. Advance! And nothing else.

modding the campaign is quite difficult but it may be possible for them in the future. this team is tackling pvp/faction redesigns and base building first
This is great! Bizarrely enough, accessed my storage unit today to retrive my gaming laptop since work has cooled down : s (partly motivated by your recent vid on Battletech mod) , went through every box, among my things found the elegant small wooden I kept the last of my miniatures in from 2nd Edition w40k. I held my favourite; Chaplain in Terminator armour (One of the greatest miniatures ever made in my opinion); and wow did such glorious moments flood back... haha! I wish a company (seeeeeeethe currentl efforts and abandonments!) that really cared about the game would make a version of Epic. Like Total War 40K and planet / system campaign from DoW. Battlesector is looking better by the update for that TT mode but want a serious campaign on an Epic scale. Will test this mod out today. Thanks for doing reviews of games worth really playing. P.S. Shout out to UA mod devs, you revived DoW in such a magnificent way. Have had hours and hours of crazy enjoyment and will check out your mod again today too!
About bloody time, the sequel can have the commander rpg stuff, that was fine, but we should still have had the huge base building and army sizes for battles like the first game.
The first minutes were hilarious. Basically a Company of Heroes:Warhammer. Engineers building with knives, Ultra compresed 3 constrip boxes (zip over zip?) and when he retire one of the squads the autarch followed them in jumpy dumpies
Shack you gotta check out the newest update. As the Imperial Guard you can now build a proper defensive line with a mix of sandbags, barbed wire, bunkers, and yes even walls!
I'd like to see a 40k adaptation of Ashes of the Singularity as supposed to Company of Heroes. As much as I adore CoH, the scale and vast number of units on screen at once on AoS would be perfect for a 40k game.
I mean... "entire companies can't do shit" except build the entire game that support this mod, including art assets, animations, back-end, etc. aka 99% of the work

I wouldnt mind a dow 1 style game play with all factions and massive armies coupled with a multiplayer campaign that kind like soul storm has you go from planet to plate fighting the other races.. but instead of it being just one sector.. expand it to the level of like spore.. so the whole galaxy.. they could start the story in the heresy ajd build on it from there.. adding more to the campaign and expanding the universe utilizing the warp to jump from galaxy to galaxy.. idk.. i feel like something more akin to that with the legit base building on a slew of differently sized maps.. basically scale it up a ton.. w8th that, they could legit have a game that playes tye way the fans want while putting aaallll the lore to work for them
Maybe, just maybe, Cavill will inspire bigger devs to make more true 40k RTS's after his Amazon show. This is my hope, and I pray to the Emperor daily for a miracle.
Very cool mod. Gotta say I can't get over the infantry model animations though, lol. I keep thinking the video is fast forwarding because of how they move.
This is definitely something I'll be giving a shot, I love seeing this absolute gem of a game still being worked on by some incredibly devoted fans. Regardless of what anyone thinks, thank you to the modders for making this happen, comparing this to Elite which has been worked on for literal years is unfair and I hope to see this grow!
Dawn of War 1 is SO good that I play even to this date. It's a shame DoW2 and DoW3 are nothing like the original Dawn of War. I'll sure check this mod!
This mod is essentially DoW 3, which was already proven to be a failure, and just from looking at this video I can already tell that this mod is a failure.
DoW 2 is a perfectly fine game. It's not the same, but it works out very well. I haven't played DoW3, but I've been told by just about everyone that it's terrible at worst, and meh at best.
I remember being upset when I first played WH 40K Dawn of War 2 back in the day, as I had loved the first game and it's DLC's. Knowing they have this MOD may get me to install and play it again.

Loved both. I played 1 first. I was the only Asian back in my dorm in college and my American friends introduced me to WH40K in college. Fell in love with the games, then read all the books. Still play them both from time to time. Didn't get into the miniatures though, they were too expensive for a broke kid like me back in the day.

The Last Stand community is still strong for DoW2 and the fact that theres no games with that exact same model but even more fleshed out and cool herp buiods and visual differences between items so you FEEL like a custom charector really boggle my mind. I hope to live long enough for a game dev to create something like that.
Nope...but there are a couple solutions. Most notably, the one that works best for me is limiting the framerate to 60 FPS using my graphics cards' control panel, and some people report improvements when using an fmod updated dll that's floating around - it's included in Dawn of War 2 Codex Edition.
So this might be dumb BUT: I love the idea of a zillion conscripts on the map, but you can't buff them to make them too OP, and they get melted later in the game, so why use them? What if.... they counted as some kind of resource? Like making higher cost units cost less (cause lore wise the conscripts would get peomoted). That way the giant mass of low damage, low defence units gain higher value- and even enemies would have reason to hunt them down to remove the global buff. Just an idea, maybe someone smarter could work out exactly how it could work and balance etc

Why can GW not see that this is what we, their customers, want. Not super realistic graphics, online only crap, THIS with loads of game mechanics. I noticed there is unique dialogue depending on who your enemy is (guardsman mocking the Eldar). Imagine how in depth unique dialogue can be with the massive amounts of lore already in place.
I know I’m in the minority but I absolutely love Dawn of War 2. Being able to level my hero squads is so much fun. Love it much more than nameless faceless squads that you pump out in normal rts games.
...how is this game in any way, shape, and form bad? The game is far more a Tactical Strategy game than a RTS, which is completely fine. The game did EVERYTHING it sought to accomplish. This mod just seeks to bring SOME aspects of the prior game into this one.
@@nukclear2741 if you actually played a DoW 2 multiplayer match, you would know that this "base building" idea is super botch. First of all, the map in DoW 2 is not built to support base building. The game objective does not support base building. And lastly, nothing shown in this video shows how "game changing" this base building thing is. God I just want a modern Dawn of War with proper base building, huge unit and faction variety, vast moddability, etc.

Still a sad lack of a "persistent bodies" toggle. That was my favorite part of Dark Crusade, the absolute fields of dead after endless battling.
There is a way to make bodies stay for a long time, but you have to edit the games files in order to do that.
Total War series is good in this regard. Oh if only we would get Total War: WH40K! At least we got the fantasy version.

One thing I like in Dow 2 is vehicles becoming cover for infantry units.

In my experience, an Engineer can absolutely build and repair structures with a knife....
I know this because Team Fortress 2 told me so.

probably not as not all the races are done and they would need to basically redo the entire campaign

Wish the remade the campaign, still one of the best coop games around for a great weekend.
Why can GW not see that this is what we, their customers, want. Not super realistic graphics, online only crap, THIS with loads of game mechanics.
I noticed there is unique dialogue depending on who your enemy is (guardsman mocking the Eldar). Imagine how in depth unique dialogue can be with the massive amounts of lore already in place.

I know I’m in the minority but I absolutely love Dawn of War 2. Being able to level my hero squads is so much fun. Love it much more than nameless faceless squads that you pump out in normal rts games.
I would like to see official DOW 2 remake from devs so as some one who never played I would like to try

No it's not, this mod looks terrible and add ZERO to the original game.

The game is far more a Tactical Strategy game than a RTS, which is completely fine.
The game did EVERYTHING it sought to accomplish.
This mod just seeks to bring SOME aspects of the prior game into this one.
@@nukclear2741 if you actually played a DoW 2 multiplayer match, you would know that this "base building" idea is super botch.
First of all, the map in DoW 2 is not built to support base building.
The game objective does not support base building.
And lastly, nothing shown in this video shows how "game changing" this base building thing is. You can find my separate comment and read the details.

It's still DOW 2 the main building still takes forever to destroy.

I love it altho I think the units are a bit fast with their animations/attacks/moving etc.
oh relic, you really could have just made CoH but 40k for DoW III but here we are
dawn of war 2 : 3 fights every 3 minutes, dawn of war 2 with base building 1 fight every 7 minutes + no map control. definitely an improvement.

No I think this is just a multiplayer architecture thing. Much more simplistic then DOW 2
I'm so glad I found this. I love both games. But I prefer DoW1 over 2 no question.
