Really enjoyed this one! Well done guys! 😊👏🏻 Excited to do this route some day after watching this! I (Amy) lived in Nottinghamshire and visited loads, the canal is so hidden there! It’s a great city though, glad you liked it. Sadly the river cruisers(not all) can be a little intimidating and love to leave a git gap. They often don’t like narrowboats mooring near them. So glad you found a good mooring in the end 😊 Excellent sandwich technique too 😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it! The Trent is stunning! Yeah, I (Stu) loved Nottingham and I'm fully planning on heading back there when I can. I really like the Beaston and Nottingham Canal, it's quiet, for a city canal but has great access to the city centre, Beeston (if you fancy something a bit quieter) and some nice river sections close by. Thank you for watching. ♥️
Emmie and Stuart go gently bobbing along, Exploring new places with their little boop song As they travel around they sure do see plenty, Being careful in locks as to not get too denty 😂 With a little boop here and a little boop there, Tis’ no wonder those watching don’t move from their chair Its the great content, fun and laughter you see That keeps people watching the vlogs each week on tv Boop, boopity, boop, double boop, big boop 😊😂😂😂😂 Ps I am laughing at my childish stupidity of typing this but it made me smile.. so boop! 😂
It's so weird watching two complete strangers travel through a city I know like the back of my hand, from town to West Bridgeford, under lady bay bridge, towards Gunthorpe, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching you enjoy my home city, and recognising the sites along the way! Though, I will say I think parts of town look better on camera than they do in person!
Everything looks better from a boat, to be fair! I (Stu) really like Nottingham, hoping to get back there a bit once we get settled in Sheffield. Thank you for watching! ♥️
I too loved the Vlog on the river! The video you shot was so beautiful. The locks on the river looked huge! I enjoy your Vlogs they keep getting better and better. Emmie you should feed Stew more he looked so hungry when he took a bite of his sandwich..LOL! Keep the laughs coming and I am looking forward to the Vlog about the engine!! Mark in Colorado
I think we have learnt with time to trust our instincts more than anything else and if unsure, pull over, and asses the situation. Thank you for watching! X
That looked like a lovely cruise. I would have been tempted to beep the horn at the people fishing 🙈. But I totally understand not wanting to annoy people you would be moored next to. Have a great week 🤎
You are right, the mooring issue is a big one on rivers like the Trent where, unlike the Thames for example, wild mooring is virtually impossible. We have the added difficulty of a large dog who is restricted where he can get on and off so we can't tie up to the lock walls like the big river cruisers. There are marinas in and around Newark where visitor mooring is available at reasonable rates. The locks are daunting but you have plenty more on the way to Sheffield to look forward to :) The Trent has some stunning scenery to pass through as you have discovered and we loved the Don too :) Check you have an anchor for the tidal section.
Yes, were a little surprised how sparse the mooring was on the Trent. If you managed to get on to a pontoon it was great but you had to actually find one first. It's also a bit more difficult to come to a stop on them, unlike a nice calm canal! We do have an anchor, I made sure we had enough rope and that it was ready to be cast off if needed. Thank you for watching! ♥️
@@bobbing_along A recent Minimal List vlog showed the difficulties of mooring up to a floating pontoon on a river section quite well for people who might not have tried it before. Most informative :)
Hell again dear friends ☺. It's not about confidence or a thinking yiur wernet being forthright enough, it's about intuition! If it doesn't feel right it probably isn't. Always follow your instinct and take care. Beautiful river. I'm not far from part of the river Trent in Lincolnshire (although originally a Yorkshire lass 🤣). Sending love, light and Autumnal Blessings 🐿🍁🦌🍂🦉xx
Thank you for your lovely comment, as always. Yes, I agree, I think the one thing I can certainly say for myself is that boating has taught me to trust my instincts more. Lovely part of the world (both Yorkshire and Lincolnshire)! Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care. X ♥️
@@bobbing_along They are indeed. Just recently scattered my beloved husbands ashes atop of Ingleborough fell in The Dales. He was caver and a climber in the day. Take care of each other, see you next week 🐖🐷 xx
This potatoes are only going to get bigger Stuart :-D What have you planted them in? I currently live in a cottage with a veg garden and greenhouse and about to move onto a 96ft narrow boat. I am going to be starting a roof garden so please share tips :)
The potatoes were about the most successful thing I have managed to grow on the boat. They were grown from some sprouting new potatoes, in deep pots. I got about a bag of potatoes off of them and it probably cost me £30 in pots and compost.... I think because we move a lot this upsets leafy plants like tomatoes, but we also haven't had the best summers over the past few years so I'm still trying to find the best ways to ripen tomatoes. Im sure we will vlog about it in future though! Thank you for watching, and good luck with your move! ♥️
I enjoyed the course and I found it really useful for both understanding how it worked and the procedure of using it. We didn't use it a lot on our cruises but it was still really handy to have for calling locks, and as an emergency system, if the worst should happen.
It is a good question though. I think because I (Stu) am quite a confident swimmer, I get complacent about it but being a good swimmer accounts for nothing if you hit your head on the way down. No, we are both filthy southerners. We like Sheffield though. Thank you, you stay safe as well. X
I think that can be true on any waterway, in both directions. We are interfering with their fishing and they are interfering with our boating! That said, the fishermen we actually met in Cromwell were all really lovely.

We don't mess about with sandwiches while we cruise.
I love your vlogs! They are beautiful, delightful, fun and refreshing. Thank you!

Awww looks grand on the river glad you got those vests on must be safe tc now both the oldies 🤗🤗👍👍
Thank you for watching! Yeah, we don't mess about on rivers, they are more than 5 foot deep and they have a current!
What a beautiful cruise! I really love your views onto nature 🤩
Thank you! ❤️

Hi Mark, thank you for watching! It's a lovely part of the country to take a boat trip! Though it is hungry work! ❤️
What a beautiful cruise down the Trent....so much water!...and the locks are enormous!...Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you for watching! X
lovely vlog :)
Thank you very much! 😊
Stunning cruise....the Trent is local to me and really is a beautiful river. x
Yes, it really is quite beautiful!
Beautiful looking river cruise..❤ Not long before we bumped into you at Thorne😅 (Norman and Nena)
Thank you for watching!
Well done beautiful vlog and great how you explained for the less confident boaters how to navigate new experiences..

Yes, we actually saw that recently. We managed to pull in fairly easily in most places but we were also lucky to find mostly empty pontoons!

Definitely life jackets, and don't forget to check the gas cylinders are in date.
Absolutely, we could be better about wearing life jackets on canals as well really...

I think when places are really crowded you moor onto another boat with their permission
If they are similar boats, yes, though nowhere was so busy, more just a case of people being considerate.
How did you get on with the marine radio course? I'd like to do that myself before heading north from Sawley.
I enjoyed the course and I found it really useful for both understanding how it worked and the procedure of using it. We didn't use it a lot on our cruises but it was still really handy to have for calling locks, and as an emergency system, if the worst should happen.
why do you not have lifejackets on , you just answered my question , naughty.
are you from Sheffield originally ?
cheers to you both staff safe .

The fishermen on the Trent are a pain and very rude
