    In this vlog I continue down the River Trent, from Holme lock to Hazleford lock, giving the engine some rarely-used revs yet still being slower than another boat that was doing the same trip.

    I'm following a few of these cut vlogs. Most of the other vloggers talks about things to come and later on shows just a glimps of whats nice to see. You do it the other way around, talking while showing, which I find very nice. :))

      Seriously this channel was my first vlog experience of narrowboats and I thought everyone else was doing it more or less the same way. Then I watched a few other channels and was surprised as quite frankly most were super boring. Cruising The Cut is by far the most polished of them all, while being 100% authentic at the same time (meaning no sponsors or incessant babbling).

    Love the Hitchhikers Guide and Play School references. We used to have a rescue dog called Marvin, who had been picked up as a stray. It always seems ironic that there are paid lock-keepers for the locks where you'd just have to press a couple of buttons, and not for the ones where you have to do physical work.

    • @daveh7720
      @daveh7720 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Aren't the paid lock keepers on the big canals and rivers where there's commercial shipping? If someone is moving hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of goods through a lock, they're going to demand trained operators and well maintained machinery.

    Thanks David, for another trip down memory lane (river). As a 14 year old, I used to camp in the back of the lock keepers garden and in way of saying thanks, we used to help working the locks. This was at Gunthorpe lock, way back in 1957. If memory serves me correct, the gates were operated by a large wheel with a handle. Great memories as well down at Hazelford lock. There's a great pub, The Hazelford Ferry, with lovely food. Thanks again, Barrie.

    12:54 As a private pilot I recall the joys of my flying instructor simulating an engine failure during take off - quite logical really as that phase of flight places the most stress at maximum power on the engine. I still find it quite disconcerting when I hear it happen today, as you are never quite sure the first time it happens if it’s flying training or the “real thing”. When it happens the second time it’s quite a relief. Loving the multiple sci-fi references, just watch that speed or you may disappear into a singularity and who knows where (or when) you may end up 🛸🛸🛸

    Hello. I am an American living in Arkansas. I lived by RAF Mildenhall back in the 80s on a farm with the Lark river in the back. Love your vids and quick comments about everything. Becoming a patron right now I of I can figure it out 🙄

    Loved the Hitchhiker's and Tripods references! Even though you got the chance to open up the throttle up, I am glad you resisted the urge to use "Danger Zone" music. Another wonderful video - thank you!

    This may come across a bit strange David, but I just wanted to thank you for your content. It's quite common ill find myself having a rather terrible day, and where I used to sit and watch whatever came across my TH-cam feed, I instead find myself seeking out your latest video (or an older one I've missed if I've already seen your latest). I'm not sure if it's the scenery, the presenter, or a mix of both, but your videos really are a treat for a troubled mind. Thank you.

    Thanks for these videos. I stumbled across your channel (via watching people convert vans into homes) and have been binge watching them and absolutely loving it. Keep up the great work and keep safe (thumbs up).

    That was a relaxing vlog , re: kilometres into mph as you probably already know , times the kph by five then divide by eight to get the mph ( yes I'm full of useless information) ..
    Take care .
