i'd love to see you react to 'Porridge', another classic british comedy, or 'Bottom' which is really funny but you may want to check that ahead of time :D
"Looking back at how drab it all was." Well, of course it was, it was before Rimmer had the scutters repaint the interior from ocean grey paint to military grey. That really made things pop.
I was in the studio audience for the recording of this episode. That reaction to Norman Lovett was genuine and lasted for aaaages we were so happy to see him back on set! He gave a speech to all of us afterwards and was fantastic!
I've been with you since episode 1 of Red Dwarf; and it's going to be so weird not tuning into your Red Dwarf reactions on a Wednesday evening; like you said, end of an era.
I’ve been with you since week one when the TH-cam algorithm threw your The End reaction at me. Have really loved re-journeying through one of my favourite shows with you. You are very much Dwarfers now :) The early opposites scenes are amazing and Mr Rat is one of the single funniest things Red Dwarf has ever done.
Loved sharing this journey with you ladies. Red dwarf has been one of my favourite shows since I was a kid and seeing you guys enjoy it has been so fun. Love this episode, especially the switched up "everybody's dead dave" scene into "Nobody's dead Arnold"
I have been a full fledged fan of Red Dwarf since it first starting showing on PBS stations on Saturday nights in Salt Lake City. Catching that first episode of you two watching this series, which doesn't get enough love in general, and having absolutely zero idea what you were in for was great! Since then, I've waited for and enjoyed every rewatching of every episode through your eyes. Thanks for sticking with it, and fingers crossed we all get a new series (either a film or a full 6 episodes will suite me) before another decade passes. 🙂
it was weird i watched this as it aired and i remember the huge cheers at seeing Holly, recently rewatched it on iplayer and there is such a subdued cheer as if "yay its Holly but we knew that already" version was used. Which is weird when you compare it to the Captain Hollister scene but that makes sense since they pre-recorded that since sadly Mac MacDonald's short term memory is failing so he had trouble remembering his lines
I forgot about this one, but it brought the memories back. I just heard a few days ago that Craig Charles said the 2025 episodes might not happen (so I guess they didn't shoot them in October). Apparently it's the financing of the episodes, holding it up.
TH-cam threw you my way within days (if not hours) of you watching the first episode and your reactions reflected mine way back in 1988 when I accidentally stumbled across it one Saturday afternoon 😎 It has been great going through the journey with you and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the next episodes 🤞
Me to watched 1988 in student house as Red Dwarf hit the TV without any fanfare No big build up to love from first episode. Love seeing these 2 wonderful people experiencing this fir first time
I have been here in a few days your first RD reaction. I have loved the journey with you. So much fun knowing what was coming up next. I was at the filming of the last part of the Promised Land. that was emotional. Because that was to be the end. But it is Red Dwarf. It will be back.
Rewatched your reaction to the premiere episode. That was my introduction to you all, and you've been my lunchtime companions ever since. Here's to many more adventures together!
I think that might have been my favourite post series 6 episode even if it was a lot of fan service, this whole series has been way better than I was expecting.
this is a nice comment. Im glad you stuck with Red dwarf, i feel it was touch and go at the start. Perhaps now you can appreciate series 3 more. I think people have suggested watching black adder as a replacement, i would say it is worth watching although it isnt until series 2 that it settles into it's mold.
I'm not going to give you a like, and I'm not going to say what a great ride Red Dwarf has been with the Gals - Nah I prefer this reality! - So much nostalgic fun in this one, I'd love to have seen Ace make an appearance but " Hey ho, pip & dandy" and Mr Rat was hilarious. Looking forward to the movie.
I have re watched every episode (for the ten thousandth time) and then watched your reactions vid after its nice , like when you ate introducing someone to something new and you get to see it through there eyes. Yes , just the special to go, it came out as one feature length special here and I have it (and all of Dwarf) on Bluray. Love watching the making of stuff as well. And I hope you will be reading the books 😍 . See you smeg heads the other side of the promised land !
If you're up for more British sci-fi comedy, might I suggest The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There is a circa-1981 TV series, but it is predated by two radio series, plus there's another three or four that were made more recently.
100% yes yes yes to BBC's HHGTTG!!! It's the only other show that's anything akin to Dwarf... and the OG Radio shows are amazing, as are the books that followed
When you were looking for strike appropriate filler content, could you have ever imagined how invested you would get with this series? How much you would grow to love the characters and the actors? It’s one of those shows which is so difficult to explain to anyone who hasn’t seen it, but once it gets its hooks into you, you’re a fan for life.
You said you don't know how they were able to flim the rat scene....... they didn't 😅 Craig Charles kept breaking down with laughter during that scene 😂
I think you're both amazing and have thoroughly enjoyed the journey from day 1. Kats reaction to Rat was absolutely wonderful. I might just sus out the patreon for some bloopers and such. Also, don't count out the possibility of a second time watch reaction sometime in the future. I would totally be down for that!
Norman Lovett had said that when he came into the studio, they had to cover him up and keep his back turned so that the audience wouldn’t see him, so that reaction was of genuine surprise.
Remember when this all started, and you gals where a tad apprehensive, incase it was all 'lads lads lads'. Now its a beloved show. Good stuff. Also, lots of us still love you two.
I love you reaction to this and BSG, I’ve been following since before you started Red Dwarf and totally enjoy your reaction to both (and possibly a couple of other things too), both of you come across as genuinely nice people 👍
I used to watch RD as a kid/teen and adult and have been here for you lots RD reactions since video #1, day 1... And in that year and close enough to a half its taken to get to the end... my Cat was mauled to death, my mother died, my younger brother and his wife had the families first biological grandchild, my elderly father literally abandoned the family to marry a 4 times divorced millionairess and threatened to throw me and my older brother out of the family home of the last 22 years to make money to give to said millionairess... sigh, and all that isnt a joke. But I always had your RD Wednesdays to help lighten my mood in the darkness, it will be sad to see you guys finally come to the end of the show. Thanks for the laughs and distractions from my own personal year from hell despite going through your own hellish troubles at the mo, hope it all comes right for all you guys over there in California **Rimmer Salute**.
It's been so enjoyable watching you both reacting to Red Dwarf . I remember the first episode when I watched , not sure if I wanted to follow . So glad I did and it's been just as good watching Paula and Kat doing exactly the same thirty ? Years later . It's been a terrific ride , only the Promised land movie to go and I'm looking forward to you seek g it . Maybe Kat can get the teeth out one last time . Hope you consider Farscape at some time in the future whilst we wait for the new RD.
I was waiting for Mr. Rat. They couldn't get through it. There is a great blooper with C. Charles cracking up barely a minute in with Danny hamming it up as the rat.
Your RD reactions are what introduced me to your channel and I absolutely love you guys! You always cheer me up on bad days ❤ I started with your BSG and LD reactions too as they're two of my fav shows, but haven't had time to keep up with them all, so now that RD is almost done I've got lots to go back to 😁 I don't use Patreon but I'm almost tempted to see you react to the extra RD content 😅
I loved this episode, especially the callbacks to the first season, Holly and Hollister. But it was definitely crazy and hilarious having Mr. Rat, still played by Danny.😂👏 🐀
The fact you are reaching the end of this is a horrible reminder how long it’s been since I released an episode of my own Red Dwarf podcast ‘Everybody’s Dead Dave’ I think you started after our last episode (series 10 reviews) and you’ve finished before I’ve managed to edit and release our series 11 reviews. 😂
What an incredible journey it's been! One last special and then it's all over... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in a recent interview, Craig Charles said that they've been unable to secure enough funding for the next set of specials, so the show may be on hold indefinitely. Really hoping it eventually gets to see the light of day.
I'm devastated to tell you that Craig Charles has said in a Radio Times interview that they aren't coming back after all. The new episodes due to begin filming in the autumn aren't happening. Meaning the movie is likely to be the end
Been here since ep 1! You sometimes say some things that make me cringe, but we can't all be the same and you are overall wonderfull! It's been great seeing these reactions 😄
@@troyconvers6933 I wasn't gonna go there to be honest. Way I see it, if you're watching red dwarf and having fun, you're alright in my book. Theres a lot of stuff in the show that a lot of people would get mad about
Skipper is such a fun episode! It would have been a great finale, but I will say I think the movie would also serve very well as a Finale if the new thing wasn't in the works. The nostalgia trip and cameos from Holly and Captain Holister were a great surprise. Even the 'cameo' of the old bunk room! ❤️ You mention how they managed to hold it with Mr Rat, Craig barely did, apparently. 😂 I'm gonna miss the reactions, when I head back home in a few months time (spending a year abroad currently) I hope to be able to sub to the patreon and see the BTS stuff.
Easily missed detail in this episode, but this is the first time that Earth has been seen in the show outside of flashbacks, time travel, alternate universes, etc.
It's been a great ride seeing your reactions to the Dwarf and hopefully you look into some other old British sci-fi shows, or maybe Death in Paradise to get some Danny John-Jules viewing each week. It's very rare for me to watch every episode of a reaction series from anybody, even with Who I tend to pick episodes that I personally enjoyed or that have an important moment in. But when I saw the 1st episode come up all those months ago, I looked forward to sitting down with the "Gals From the Dwarf" every week. Usually with a curry and some lager, the way I watched most of the episodes back in the 90s.
"How did they keep a straight face during the Mr Rat scenes?". Actually, they didn't, that scene was subject to multiple retakes because they kept breaking up. The audience also went nuts when Holly appeared, causing the filming to overrun because of how long it took for the pandemonium to die down.
The Promised Land is considered a fan-favourite, its a brilliant episode! Sadly, its possible that its going to be the final episode but its a decent ending, it ties into the first episode/season quite a bit - excited for the reaction!
This one reminded me of Sliders with the dimension-hopping and timer. Typical Rimmer needing to feel superior to everyone and shooting himself in the foot. -.- I can't believe it's almost over. I'm going to have to rewatch all your RD reactions sometime to get my fix.
I mean this was a perfect bookend to the entire show... Especially when you take into consideration the end scene of the last episode... The end of an era... Haven't seen the movie, but how can it possibly top this ?
I've seen all manner of emotions from your reactions but Kat reached a new level of happiness here with Mr Rat 🐀 i think your mind went somewhere fantastic i didn't think you'd come back from 😅 utterly charming and infectious. Been watching from first reaction and remember Red Dwarf on first broadcast and your first reaction to it . I wonder if you would have liked it more or less if you'd had to wait/watch over the original time period?
It boggles my minds that they did a multiverse episode focused on Rimmer trying to find a universe where he wasn’t a loser and DIDN’T EVEN MENTION Ace Rimmer. 🤯
Did you know Chris Barry was considered for the role of the 8th and 10th Doctor Who? I'm guessing you have ofc. I'm not sure of that casting myself but would loved to have seen it!
All we know is there's a proposal and discussions, but nothing confirmed yet either way. Getting filmed & broadcast this year feels unlikely now at least - expect 6-8 months for special effects / post production based on Promised Land and feels like we'd know if filming was planned to happen in the next 6 months. As always, it remains best to wait for Doug to say it's on before getting hopes up.
@M-E_123 in a way I'm glad for the delay. This year would've marked Red Dwarf tying with Last Of The Summer Wine as the longest running sitcom ever (at 37 years). This postponement means that, airing beyond this point, it'll surpass it and become the longest
I was looking forward to your reaction to Mr. Rat! XD It would have made a good ending. But there's still at least one more thing to watch. Hopefully it's not too long till there's a little more.
Just finished re-watched ep 1 to 'end-1' before watching end ep here. Right from those "Gal Girls!" singing intros to those weird office workers around the photo-copier outros. Enjoy :-)
There was a reaction vid of red dwarf (postmodern family) and scene was of ace rimmer croc surfing from the sky. without any context i do understand why it was lost on them they were confused and bemuse just made it more funnier to me.
I found you because of Red Dwarf. I can't afford to be a patreon so I'm hoping you'll release the extra content on TH-cam at some point in the future. I really hope you react to Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg on here soon.
After The Promised Land, you should consider ranking the episodes / name your favourite & least favourite Series - even a top 5 and bottom 5 ranking of episodes from each of you (or best & worst episodes from each Series) would be interesting - see how close you are to the community consensus we have from the occasional polls that have been run over the years. I feel like the episodes from the Dave era (the post Back to Earth Series X, XI & XII) have had you both laughing the most, so I wonder if you'd be throwing out something a bit different to what we usually see (which pretty much has Series 3-6 as the peak, 7&8 and Back To Earth at the bottom, and the Dave era below Series 1-2 - so basically the top half is all from the Grant Naylor era, and Doug era is the bottom half, with the Kochanski era dead last). I feel like you wouldn't agree with that, especially Series 1-3 seemed very up and down for you, and you seemed to like Kochanski, even if those episodes weren't your favourite.
Oh Paula!! Your reactions to this were . . . . absolutely wonderful! Love ya. And Kat . . . . your reactions were almost as good. I am going to miss you watching this - still, you do have the movie it go yet.
Skipper is a fun episode. Obviously playing to nostalgia, but I didn't object. And Mr Rat is genius! Unfortunately, the planned new Red Dwarf special is under threat. Craig Charles gave a recent interview here in the UK and he intimated that while all the cast were on board, they're having trouble financing it. Have to see how it all turns out.
You should do the 1981 BBC sitcom version of _The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy_ next before moving on to Blackadder! As the only other good sci-fi comedy, it’s a good counterpart to Red Dwarf, and also it’s only one season of 6 episodes. 👍
To think, out there, in the Multiverse - there are versions of Paula and Kat who watched that first episode and went, "Nope - not for us"! What would we have all done on at 8pm GMT on a Wednesday evening for the last year and a half with no Red Dwarf reactions!?! Thank Cloister the Stupid they did like it.
@@troyconvers6933 It'll be interesting to see TA get to DS9 and how they find it plus the TNG movies in comparison to the TNG movies. Me, I'm just waiting to see when they get round to watching episode 2 of Darkplace - all that slow-mo.
My reaction of seeing Holly was the same as yours, and Kat laughing at the Rat scene was great. The Ace Rimmer reality was others making decisions changing his life. These realities was Rimmer's decisions changing things. That's my excuse for no Ace Rimmer in the episode. But I missed him though... Thanks for the ride! 🚀
i have been with you on day one of you doing red dwarf reaction as it happens i was searching you tube for red dwarf reaction and that was doing a full reaction not just odd random episode and you posted series 1 ep 1 on that day i did the search and i have stayed with you since and i have to say i really have enjoyed your reaction to red dwarf it has been great.. once rd is over im not going to leave im going to stay may watch some of you older content and i believe you are doing black adder after as well and hope you do some more British comedy i think you will enjoy loved every moment with you both :) lease excuse my bad spelling struggling with pain my hands

Another tremendous reaction, Gals! Amazed you are so near the end of the run now.
All the stopping mid sentence at 9:21 just reminded me of Matt Smith: "So long, as you remember, all the people that you used to be".

Yup been with you since episode one. It's been a joy to watch you fall in love with this show. Love Kat's 80's shirt.
This was one of the best of the entire series.
You are going to love "The Promised Land".
I was so excited when you started Red Dwarf as someone who started watching on late night public television. This has been such a journey.

Aren't there no more Ace's left, though? Because our Rimmer was supposed to pick up the mantel, but he didn't last long and came back to the dwarf.
Awww @ 11:33 is so classic Gallifrey Gals ! Y'all are so adorbs !
Even if you don't do a reaction, I recommend listening to the audiobooks of the novels. Great reactions over the episodes.
Yeah, I'm so sad there was all that legal stuff that kept them from doing more. I am glad that it's been worked out.
It boggles my minds that they did a multiverse episode focused on Rimmer trying to find a universe where he wasn’t a loser and DIDN’T EVEN MENTION Ace Rimmer. 🤯
been with you on this journey since s1e1 and now its nearly over. Please do BBC Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy after Dwarf 🙏
i dont know if you guys like reading books but i highly highly recommend the books, they are amazing, also there are a couple references to dr who
Mr. Rat - Top 5 scene for me. YEAH!
Hell yeah!
Did you know Chris Barry was considered for the role of the 8th and 10th Doctor Who?
I'm guessing you have ofc. I'm not sure of that casting myself but would loved to have seen it!
More new Red Dwarf to come this year, another three parter.
Ohhhhh please tell me you aren't trolling. I need more Dwarf.
Craig Charles gave an update just yesterday actually that he's uncertain whether it's gonna happen now because it's too expensive to make.
This postponement means that, airing beyond this point, it'll surpass it and become the longest
seeing your reaction to Rat was worth it.
I was looking forward to your reaction to Mr. Rat! XD
It would have made a good ending. But there's still at least one more thing to watch.
Hopefully it's not too long till there's a little more.
Danny John Jules the MVP of this and the other modern seasons, so many iconic moments!
Another quality unskippable cat video!
Yes since series1 ep 1 , what will I watch now , it won't be the same.
Great reaction, again. Sadly, it' comes to an end.
Oh Paula!! Your reactions to this were . . . . absolutely wonderful! Love ya.
And Kat . . . . your reactions were almost as good.
I am going to miss you watching this - still, you do have the movie it go yet.
... Thanks? 🙃
Man, if they would crowdfund it, I'd send them some money. :D
I'm liking and thumbing up all comments like this one as they are 100% on the money!!
To think, out there, in the Multiverse - there are versions of Paula and Kat who watched that first episode and went,
"Nope - not for us"!
What would we have all done on at 8pm GMT on a Wednesday evening for the last year and a half with no Red Dwarf reactions!?!
Thank Cloister the Stupid they did like it.
So basically, Target Audience. 😄
I don't wanna live in that universe
@@troyconvers6933 Yep, they took the title of the first episode literally 😂
@@TxFl-j4g they're weird. I like their TNG reactions for the most part but they do overthink things sometimes. And they wussed out of BSG in S1! 😄
🚀
