- Madagascar 3: Europes Most Wanted is NOT a bad movie... but it's not that good unfortunately.
I find Madagascar 3 to be such a disappointing conclusion to the Madagascar franchise, which I otherwise find to be really great and underrated!!!
In this video, I talk about the goods, the bads, and ultimately why Madagascar 3 is easily the worst Madagascar film.

1. Everyone needs to end up Madagascar!!
2. All Hail King Julien characters DESERVE to be on the big screen. Karl Fanaloka as a lead "villain" (if you know him you get it) would be EPIC
Karl is my fav villain from the show and one of my fav villains ever, but for some reason it could feel weird to bring him into a Madagascar movie. Idk I just think he's better suited for the show.

Fully agree with all of your points. I have always disliked the circus plot and I feel like it's just meant to be eye-candy for the youngest audience without any substance. It feels like this movie tried to be a lot more appealing to young children when comparing it to the previous two movies. For me, the franchise ended with Madagascar 2.
If they targeted very young audience, they didn't succeed for me. When I was 9 years old, I was very hyped to see this movie, I came out of the cinema very dissapointed. And I had pretty s*itty taste at that time, I liked Ice Age 4). But anyway, even at that time I didn't get why the circus is the final of the franchise? Why the main characters hate Africa so much? Yes, in the end of Madagascar 2 they said that they want to return to New York, but they liked Africa anyway! I think in Madagascar 3 they should have finally accept the Africa as their home and stay here, why the circus?! It feels like Madagascar 3 ignores the previous movie, just like Shrek Forever After. But the problem is, Madagascar 2 wasn't as bad as Shrek 3. It had good plot, every character went through his arc and learned something. Why Dreamworks decided to ignore it? I didn't get it in 2012, I still don't get it right now. And I don't understand why everybody thinks Madagascar 3 is the best part of the series?

I think that the main reason that they went with the circus idea is because they wanted to show a balance between living with humans and entertaining them but also being free to make their own choices and to not be forced into doing anything or staying trapped in one place like they were in the zoo. Like i mean, they still have that love of entertaining others but now its not forced, they didnt necessarily have to entertain others for the zoo to keep them (as was the case with melman who was just about always sick and paranoid) it was something they wanted to do but had little options and ideas to improve their acts ( as is the case with alex who we see doing the "roar" thing since childhood and just evolving on that general idea and concept. They were all comfortable and happy in being trapped in a constant routine. The third movie shows them doing what they love but now with the ability to embrace change as well as improve and improvise (which i feel is one of the minor themes of the movie). Cause we see so many innovative ideas from alex who comparatively himself had been doing the exact same thing over and over again for so many years. This idea is reintroduced to us in the form of what the circus animals consider to be "tradition". So i dont exactly hate the the third movie but i dont like the King Julien x Sonia bear thing either and feel extremely concerned about how in the end of the movie they send the crazy lady to MADAGASCAR. I mean i dont think that Clover will be able to take down that she demon even with her buff lemer army(but could possibly with king julien and the penguin's help "hint hint")😂 so fingers crossed for a satisfactory 4th movie as a conclusion to the series.

And about what you said, l respect it. But the deal is that movie in my eyes didn't deliver that idea very well and it gets me confused. They don't like the routine..
With Marty, l get it. But now Gloria, Melman and Alex are on that? Yeah no.. They may had a taste of freedom, but l highly doubt that it would change their minds about their home whom Alex has been wishing to go back IN AFRICA FOR YEARS!!
(not to mention l don't by their relationship with the circus, with Vitani and Gia.. Maybe. But the rest are boring and bland as paper, so no, l don't get why would they join with them)
The improvisation actually feels like a major theme, in the first movie they needed to improvise to survive on Madagascar, in the second one they needed to improvise to create a diversion to escape the granny and in the third one all of them realize how much they've gained in skills and relationships and freedom through escaping the zoo that they decide to stick with it in the finale!
Not popular fact: funny that this movie is still dreamworks best 3th movie they made...

ALEX CAN'T SWIM!! Sure, it may seem as a joke, but also a solid reason why they didn't comeback to New York sooner.
But apparently in this movie, he can swim easily and GET A BOAT OUT OF SCREEN!!
I swear this movie gets the most absurd reasons for things to happen.. Why did they join the circus?
Because they felt good, even tho they wanted to go back home and nothing in the movie gave me a clue that they would have a relationship in the circus.
Why they don't go back to their home sooner?
Because their plane crashed and the monkeys left.
Why was the liar reveal trope there?
Because now they know they're from the zoo, even though it doesn't really change the effect they had on the circus or the fact that they missed them afterwards, so that cliché thing was POINTLESS!!
Why didn't the plan to reunite the penguins didn't work?
Because Alex's friends are being idiots for discussing about who's the leader, when we all know they would be dead without Alex.
Ya see what l mean?
Anyways, is there anything good in it? Well l liked the villain, the animation is much more cartoonist this time around (which is a bonus) and they are more moments with King Julien and a few with Gloria and Melman.

I feel like the movie would’ve worked better if they stayed in France, and abandoned the circus storyline. A lot of the film’s problems come from character bloat, so I think sticking to the original cast with only a few additions would’ve worked better.
Plus, the films seem to want to focus on situations animals normally encounter (the zoo, their natural habitat, etc) so a movie focusing on conflict with humans via Dubuois and her animal control unit could have worked well thematically.

To answer your questions,
Zuba couldn’t make it into the movie due to his actor Bernie Mac, passed away during Madagascar 2’s production. Which is understandable, but I don’t know why Florrie or Moto Moto aren’t in this one.
In the movie, Stefano explains that there’s an American circus promoter in London, and if the circus was a hit in England, than he would’ve let the European circus do shows in the US.
Not only that, but Rome was where the circus animals were going by the time our main leads hop onto the train.
And as for the random mountain range, I think that’s supposed to be Germany. Don’t know why, but at the start of the rehearsals scene, you could hear a yodel which is common in German folk music, so that’s my only guess.

They probably already had the concept of DuBois and then they went for the circus storyline because Open Season 3 did it 2 years prior

@kikosquirrel4967 Wait a couple of months and I'll explain why there should be a Madagascar 4 and what it should be about.
By the way, I have been making a Madagascar 4 movie for the past 3 years since December 12, 2019. I called it Madagascar 4: Showtimes with New Beginnings. The storyline is about Alex and Gia getting married a few years after the Penguins of Madagascar Movie in 2014. The story takes place in 2027 when Alex and Gia get married and Gia later gets pregnant. Alex and the gang are on their last show in Toronto, Canada. They decide to go to Aruba after their big circus act, they soon meet the North Wind from the Penguins of Madagascar and gain a bond with them. They come and tell them that Dave has come back to destroy all animals in the world. Dave travels to Aruba to try and stop the gang from succeeding. The gang soon defeats Dave by killing him, then the gang gets back to vacation time. A few months go by and Gia gives birth to the cubs, Alex and his friends celebrate in Aruba. They spend the rest of the time back in Aruba, until they leave in December of 2028 to start their circus acts for the 2029 season. This is my idea for Madagascar 4. I already drew out the book on paper and did some more on the computer. I am starting the script for the movie and I am trying to send it to DreamWorks Animation Studio so they can buy into my movie and make it a reality. I am in love with the franchise, I just need to see their adult faces on the big screen one last time. This is really happening, I really have been working on this book/movie for a long time. I just need some help from one of you guys to buy into my movie to make this the best movie of 2027!😁

I just need a Madagascar 4. I am already making one. I am dead serious I have been working on it since December of 2019! I am almost done. My plan is to finish the book, send it to Dreamworks, and get their permission for the movie, the movie is almost finished. I have been taking my time on this movie. The plot is Alex and Gia get married, the gang soon meets the North Wind from Penguins of Madagascar, and they finish their final circus performance of the year 2027 or later in Toronto; before their vacation, until Gia is pregnant during the trip, they run into Dave the octopus from Penguins of Madagascar and another villain named Pulsestrike who is a very deadly python, who has a back story to Alex's family. The animals have to fight in Madagascar after their vacation is over. Alex and Gia have their cubs and all of the circus animals, and the North Wind resides in Madagascar. The circus continues traveling while still residing in Madagascar and the North Wind stays in Madagascar but uses a portal to travel back and forth to different parts of the world for spy missions, which is Kowalski's new invention. The whole circus and North Wind meet the characters from All Hail King Julien and King Julien regains the throne after Clover and Sage step down from their positions as king and queen of Madagascar. There might be a show at the end of the movie focusing on the characters' new lives in Madagascar but will focus on Alex and Gia's cubs. This is my idea for the plot of my title Madagascar 4: A Vengeful Caribbean Vacation. I want it to be released in the summer between maybe 2028 to 2034. THIS IS MY IDEA!!!!!!!!
I think this film could had worked better if the Zoosters 🦁🦓🦒🦛 decide to live in Africa with Alex's parents and go to Madagascar during all the summers in the penguins' superplane ✈️. However, during one of their travels to Madagascar, the penguins 🐧 they decide to stop in Monte Carlo, Monaco and get money 💵💴💶💷💸💰 as we saw in the actual film. However, as we saw in the actual film, they are discovered and chased by Chantel DuBois and her henchmen, but are manage to escape. When they met the circus 🎪 gang, they tell them that they are going to Madagascar to have summer vacation 😎☀️🌞🌴🥥🏖️⛱️ there instead of lying to them about also being circus 🎪 animals. This is just my opinion 👍❤️.
I absolutely agree with you that the new circus animal characters weren't that interesting and I also wish that the screentime that they had were given to the main characters. A while back, I had counted all the characters of this franchise and I think this whole franchise has over 60 characters if you count the villains and reccuring characters including those from AHKJ and the penguins' series, like this franchise really doesn't need anymore characters in my opinion LOL. I also agree that the conclusion of them being at the circus is disappointing, I am one of those people that think that they should've ended up back in Madagascar, that way Julien can go back to his kingdom and all of the characters can live on the island together. Another thing I want to mention is that, at least in real life, a circus is not a good place for animals. I've heard that circus animals get mistreated and even abused. So if there were to be a fourth movie, I could totally see a storyline where the characters realize that they're being mistreated in the circus by the humans and they can't have the freedom they are actually looking for, so they break out of the circus and try to go back to Madagascar.
I would say that third movie is my least favorite out of the three as well. But I absolutely love the first 20 minutes of the movie and DuBois is a great villain! I like how she's not really a super terrifying villain, but rather, she's just so wild and it makes her such a fun character to watch. I prefer villains that are on the goofier side and while DuBois does pose a clear threat to our protagonists, the way she goes about trying to capture them is so hilarious and that's what I love about her. Also can I just say that I hate Julien and Sonya together? Like I know their relationship was supposed to be funny, but I just don't like those together. Anyways thanks for making this video, hearing your thoughts on this film was so entertaining and I agree with most of what you said! Yeah and it would especially be funny if they went back to Madagascar and all the lemurs were going crazy since their leader had been a gecko this whole time. And also the circus is not lead by humans so I don’t think there would be a whole lot of mistreatment and all that but their definitely should be a reason for them to leave the circus as like you said it is not a good conclusion.

I like your version idea of the movie but I want to add something, after the gang escape the casino and went back to New York zoo they realized that the zoo replaced them they add new animals in their old spots and there the gang start to feel replaced and the deep moment of the movie stays the same, then they decide to leave New York but indeed up dubois capturing them

I like Madagascar 3 but I think 2 was a perfect ending. I remember watching Madagascar 3 in theaters. Madagascar 2 is about Alex and the others reuniting with their families. Why would Alex leave his family after being gone since he was a baby? Now, they are in captivity again with the circus.
