@frank elf cascante. The Romans adapted weapons and tactics from all their conquered enemies. The Roman sword Gladius Hispaniensis was adapted from the Spanish celts. The Roman also copied the ships of Carthage and added their own modifications because Rome was not a sa fearing empire at the time. Those are two basic examples.
probably just needs to have a shorter rope so its already under tension before pulling it back like a bow then might help to have two of the latchs to hold the rope that way the bolt can sit in the middle and right up against the rope but yeah its amazing
It looks like OP is using jute or hemp cord, not the best. A close material to the original sinew would be nylon cord (twisted, not braided). Torsion-wounded springs are no joke, when I was building a miniature 10 pound ballistae, I was using pine boards as thick as OP here was using, first attempt snapped in half the top of my unfinished frame. They say for every pound of draw you're getting, those twisted cords are pulling down with 4 times the weight, so a low 50lb draw weight would have over 200 pounds of stress on the frame. Props to those that manage to build fullsize working replicas of these things.
@@markuswolfram4587woah 4 times is alot does that make this type of design kinda useless tho since a large warbow could be 150 pound draw from just a guy so if you wanted that on this youd have to build it to hold 600 pounds
Romans were practical people. If something worked they weren't going to reinvent it. I'm not sure why you're saying they robbed the language. Greek and Latins had a long history of contact and its natural that words from one were adopted by the other. The Romans had aqueducts, and free standing amphitheaters. Greeks HAD to build against a cliff. Romans invented paved roads, had a standing army, drinking water and invented fast curing concrete and invented most medical tools. We owe them tons.
Sorry, but you did everything wrong. 1) Don't but your fingers near smth that can cut them off! You need to change you trigger mechanism, or once you'll be left without some fingers... 2) Arms shouldn't hit anything. With such massive arms you have high moment of inertia, so during shot a lot of kinetic energy is "in them". When arms aren't hitting anything and are stopper just by bowstring then near the end almost all kinetic energy is transfered to projectile, otherwise this energy is just wasted. 3) Everything is just to thin. It's too complicated to write in a comment, but just look at my desing that I'm just working on, here everything is calculated with mechanics of materials. With such amount of ropes as in yours design you should be able to get at least 1-2kJ on projectile, but with such energy and such thin parts forces would just crush everything

I made a smaller scale ballista and I found that synthetic rope stores energy better and shoots projectiles faster.

308 shoot so far was because the arrow shaft is too big for the arrow, so it was bouncing against the walls

Its a gate latch without the gate, at most hardware or home stores like a home depot or menards, probably at walmart

It's just a standard gate latch. Easy to find and a great idea.

Should of got a better drill, that was a piece of drill.
