But how do you move the ballista to the ballistae to battlefield? Is it packed and carried by horse like the trebuchet?
It could be done in 2 ways. Man power (the roman legions were big on man power) or horse power. The carroballista was literally mounted on a cart and pulled by armored horses... One could argue it was a very early version of a tank :).
But the scorpio (if I understand correctly) was broken down and carried by the men and re-assembled on the battlefield.
