@Sammy Slaughter exactly. They want everybody to look the same and feel the same so kids can all get jobs they hate when they get older. Schools that don't welcome individuality are setting kids up for boring, meaningless lives.

General Too The idea wasn’t to “keep the children out of gangs”. That’s never stated even ONCE in this video. They clearly stated in the video, if you even watched it, that the policy was made because the school and staff thought the kids hair was “unkempt” and “untidy”.
They specifically directed the policy towards NATURAL HAIR. Never stated that the kids are in gangs 😂
Also, it seemed like these kids were all very well behaved and their parents were clearly in the video, showing concern about their kids not being able to wear their hair in natural hairstyles. So maybe you should think twice before speaking and don’t make such rude and ignorant assumptions.

Both are equally important. The idea that natural hair is unkempt spreads to the workplace and it's discrimination at the end of the day. If we only worry about learning and grades but we don't fight discrimination then that is only half the battle. Once again, both are important. Just because it's just "hair" demeans the problem. That is like saying that there more important things to focus on-- but that's not the point. It's still a problem nonetheless.

Rob Gillan the point is when we wear our hair in its natural state we also put maintenance styles in or else you can comb it out into an afro, do twist outs, etc. So cornrows, braids, Locs are styles in which our natural hair can be neatly wore instead of all over our heads (not that its a bad thing) so yes, they ARE natural styles meant to keep the hair kempt.

If that's not considered "untidy" then there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that black teenagers that have had their hair done in cornrows or that have kept their natural hair should be considered more "messy" than mine. It's blatant racism and unfortunately it happens all the time. It's not right and no student or employee should have to stand for such discrimination. I don't care what people say about it because in my eyes, any type of discrimination based upon physical appearances are WRONG.

I can understand the bans on wearing certain clothing and things of that nature but hair is hair and if they're gonna ban black people from wearing their hair in it's natural state then the same should be done to every other race because that's extremely discriminating and completely unethical.. how a person chooses to style their hair shouldn't be any of the school's business unless there is something offensive or inappropriate done with it, such as shaving obscene words or graphics into it or something like that.. these schools are getting worse and worse with their need to control people's lives.. it's unacceptable and should be addressed by the board of education in each state IMMEDIATELY.. I love seeing black women wearing their hair natural because I know how empowering that is for them, to go against a society that has told you for so long that your hair is ugly. No one should make you feel ashamed for what you were naturally given! Moreso, for what your race was naturally given. Everyone should be able to wear their hair however they want. And if kids at the school have a problem with her hair because they "can't see", they can sit in a different seat.
