I think these are underrated, but still have some of the same criticisms, which you covered. I have the gray model (purchased used). Thankfully it keeps okay time ~+8sec/day. I find the bracelet to be really comfortable, though I do wish for at least 1 more micro adjust slot. I think they really missed an opportunity to lume the printed numerals. Seiko, get over the whole saving signed crowns for the Presage line. I get it on the Seiko 5 line and even entry Prospex, but anything that shows up on the Seiko Luxe site should have a signed crown. I'm sure it's pennies of difference in build cost, if even that much. I love the easily legible railroad track markings on the baby model versus the compass Alpinist (I also own an SPB089). It's just so easy to set the minute hand when setting the watch vs. the busier dial of the compass version. Of the baby Alpinists available, the green is probably the best. I do find the gray the most versatile, but I could also see it being replaced in my collection some day by an upgrade to a Sinn 556A RS or a Monta Triumph (talk about an underrated watch...so good on wrist/in person). If Seiko had gone that extra step with the lume and signed crown, maybe I wouldn't be thinking of the next purchase. I wonder how well these sell. Seiko seems to have forgotten the line. Will we see new variants? I sure hope so.
Ive had this watch for about a year now. Love this watch! Quality feels good. Im a fan of the cathedral hands only con for me is one more micro adjust would have been nice. Other than that well worth the money.
One of my favorite pieces I had the opportunity to own and enjoy. This variant is awesome an it's probably one of my all time favorite Alpinist...that dial is amazing 😍. Maybe I should get this back in the collection 😅.
I own the 157 blue dial which is beautiful. Funny, I love the cathedral hands on this piece. Right about disappointing lume, but overall, really enjoy it.
I really like your videos and reviews. I have the brown dial with gold hands SBDC137 and it’s lovely. I chose this color because I wanted something a bit more versatile and reserved than the green. I wear it on the uncle Oyster strap and it’s a great fit. My only real complaint with the watch is the thickness. I’d prefer a closed caseback if it meant shaving 2mm of the thickness for a better wearing experience as the movement isn’t particularly pretty in the first place.
I got it month ago, and I literally wear it everyday almost every time except the gym time I use my smart watch. But it is sad that we have to levels of the micro adjust on the SPB155J1 :(
Have a Hamilton Khaki Field auto 38 and would like to add a green Seiko155 baby alpinist but I've heard the 6r35 movement is a hit and miss. Doesn't come well regulated from the factory. My experience with the H10 from Hamilton is 10/10. After 3 years +1second. My Sinn 556aRS gets +2 and my Junghans Max Bill 38 automatic +7. The only Seiko I own is a recent purchase Seiko 5GMT blue. Gets +10 seconds. Either way accuracy when it's + it's ok since I can hack it more easily.
Had the Sarb017 but like you the hands just weren’t for me and the green while lovely wasn’t “the green” I like. This one is the same albeit a lovely watch. Great review buddy
Agree and disagree; I like the cathedral hands but the accuracy specs are atrocious. I own this watch, it's beautiful, but I have to reset it every three days or so because it loses 20 or more seconds per day. I sent it back to SEIKO USA because it was losing 16 sec/day. When I got it back it was inside of -5, but within a few days, it slipped to -20 sec/day or more. I don't expect quartz accuracy - not even SEIKO quartz - but for nearly $725, they could tighten those specs. I have read and heard on TH-cam that the 6r35 is not regulated easily. I'm glad that you and Teddy B got accurate ones, it's just ironic that he has publicly stated on his own channel that he doesn't care about accuracy in the slightest, beyond a minute a day or so. I wonder if he'd trade....
@@johnnelson9252 Thank you for the support and I’m sorry to hear that you’re having some issues with yours. I personally don’t care about accuracy either, I change watches everyday. This particular model was lent into the channel, so I had to give it back.
Accuracy is highly overrated. Especially for those of us who have watch collections and wear different watches through out the day or everyday. The general public on the other hand is a different story, they would care. Yet, automatic watches are inherently inaccurate. Hence all these certifications and other talk about automatics. It’s the nature of the beast. You want accuracy, get a quartz. You want looks and great designs then automatics are the way to go.
Hi! 👋🇨🇵 Luminous numbers like Sarg009/011 would have been killers. I prefer the 2 crown models, but this reference is very attractive. Very nice review. 👍

Great insights and thank you for sharing. You bring up some good points and I’m with you on the Monta, super underrated!

Congrats 👏 and more micro adjust positions would be awesome, but not happening at that price point from Seiko unfortunately.
@@SoCalWatchReviews thanks!
But for a cheaper Seiko watches (i.e. SRPD55K1) there are 3 levels of the micro adjust.

awesome cover would rather hear you talk about seiko citizen or a microbrand any day than luxury watches only 1% of people can afford

Great review I keep thinking of this to go with my 143 how does it compare to the 143 please? Does it feel small on wrist ?
I can't decide this or the 317 slim turtle
If you already have the 143, this would be a perfect companion. It feels great on the wrist, not small at all!
