"The whole film felt like parody." Well...yeah. Clue is one of my all time favorites. Madeline Kahn cracks me up every time and Tim Curry is outstanding.
As a tabletop game adaptation, this one makes more sense than others, even if is a silly movie there are many aspects that make it worth watching, like the good dynamic between the cast, and the multiple endings which was an innovative idea for cinema in the '80s, so it has redeeming elements in its favor
18:11 I thought , top of my head remembering hearing before that it is exactly 45 mins in actual Time , just like how in Batman it was a certain Time from the bottom of the Church tower to the top.
I’m sad you guys didn’t find the comedy in this movie. It’s so full of small things that just make me laugh. Like all the guys volunteering to go with Evette to search, except for Mr. Green, who was “gay” and then he was forced to go with her. And Wadsworth saying no man would ever be alone with Mrs. White and then he is forced to go with her. And Mrs. White talking about her husband. “And your husband disappeared.” “Well, he was an illusionist”. “But he never reappeared!” “Well, he wasn’t a very a good illusionist”.
I normally save these as workout videos but I LOVE this movie! As you know it was always played at Christmas in the UK. I can’t wait to get home from work to watch this. Thanks guys.
3:29 I have a Final Destination (3???) on DVD somewhere and you could chose how characters die, you had 2 or 3 options which I found quite entertaining and a surprise at that time.
When I saw this movie in the theater I got the Mrs. Peacock ending. Thank you so much for doing this movie you beautiful bearded man.. Love from Arizona ❤
I agree with you guys! For me, just seeing Tim Curry do something....ANYTHING! Makes the whole movie worth it! The movie is fine to me. It's aged but still pretty damn funny! I still appreciate 80s films! The movie is a love or hate scenario, but the board game is a classic gem! Even though I suck at it lmao great review as always guys! Keep it up!
I recently had no internet for 5 days and dug out some DVD's. 3 Tim Curry classics that I watched were Hunt for the Red October. National Lampoon's: Loaded Weapon 1 and this. Great timing, just a shame they weren't enthusiastic about it. I love this.
2:52 i saw this in the theaters with my parents and we picked ending “C” ( i think) and wasn’t sure if that was the official ending bc i remember my mom saying no way were we going to sit through that movie 2 more times…when it came out on VHS it included all 3 endings, turns out we saw the “right” one 👍🏼
Absolutely nostalgic. I’ve known it by heart for years. Obviously all of the actors are brilliant but I think it’s their delivery. Nearly every line sounds perfect. And timed in such a way that it feels like everything is on beat… “Look!” Drops cook’s arm. “What?” “The body’s gone!” “Huh?” Thump. Drops cook entirely.
Jane Wiedlin (Go-Go's) as the singing telegram girl. That murder got the biggest laugh over any other moment in the movie when I saw it in theaters back in '85. By the way, speaking of comedy veterans with good resumes...Madeline Kahn?
You didn't mention Rocky Horror Picture Show... hope you've seen that (when talking about Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon). Congrats to your work, greetings from Slovenia :)
I like this movie, I also like the WHODUNNIT WHATIF endings of the video over the idea of just getting one for the theatrical ultimately the critics saw the VHS format on the big screen why the fuck didn't everyone else? This is one of those movies I rented all the time as a kid.
I feel like you guys really don't get this film. Clue is not about the story! It's about the arch script and delicious performances. Also, contrary to what Iain said, there is a _lot_ of slapstick comedy in this film, including an overt Three Stooges reference at the end. The movie that Clue is most often compared to is Murder By Death, but I think that movie is praised only for its pedigree (starring Peter Sellars, script by Neil Simon), as the script is painfully unfunny and the visuals off-puttingly dark.
I was surprised that this was such a meh or even negative response from the boys. I never get tired of this movie, the joker are just as funny on the 21st time as the 1st
I think it's easier to adapt a board game into a movie than a video game. With a board game you actually have to use your imagination and create the characters. With a video game the characters and story are already there so it's all about the casting and directing. And 9 times outta 10 they suck. I think Clue was ahead of it's time because it was the first movie based on a board game.
In terms of film-making, Clue is top-notch. That said, I've found many people who dislike Evil Dead 2 because it's too silly for them. Both are masterpieces of film-making, objectively. For whatever reason, people don't want to acknowledge it. & that, in itself, is the beauty of art.
Clue is a big studio release with a large cast of great actors, Evil Dead 2 pretty much spent 90% of its budget on FX.... And sorry to say it but a long time ago I got tired of Bruce Campbell's massive ego and cashing in on the series.... I love the first Evil Dead but Part 2 and Army of Darkness, in my middle aged eyes, look more and more self-indulgent and obnoxious.
WELL lets be FAIR the movie BATTLESHIP cant just be two guys playing war...THEY did incorporate THE GRID and Coordinates LIKE the Game AND they Alien Bombs looked JUST LIKE the PEGS used in the Game Still a fun movie to watch
@@mariolopez3728 Nothing, but having boats battle each other for 2 hours like battleship would not have been any fun. It would have been RIMPAC the movie.
I can't watch these reviews any more guys as I am laughing like an idiot at Gary's "reviewer face" everytime only joking , excellent review for a crazy film "I had to stop her screaming!"
It's a terrific cast, with Curry even managing to eclipse the others (no small feat), but it ends up like Neil Simon's 'Murder By Death' not delivering the kind of screwball entertainment that some 1930's comedy thrillers did.
Clue is one movie I’ll never understand. I loved the board game and liked the setup of the big scary mansion on a rainy night . Then about 25 minutes in I struggled to stay interested. Tim Curry was great(as usual) in his role but it didn’t fit this type of movie. I don’t know but I’ve always saw clue as being just a bad movie . Then again I’m not sure if anyone could pull this sort of movie off
Hey guys, love your show. However, for goodness sake, please remove those pictures of yourselves when showing the movie clips. Especially Gary's with that goofy look on his face. Very distracting! Clue is great, by the way.
I think they should have done what they did for the video release: Show all of the endings one after the other. However, I don't think audiences at the time would have tolerated that sort of gimmick any more than they had with the actual release.
This movie had the unfortunate timing of following Murder By Death, a MUCH better comedy and homage to murder mysteries. It should have bolstered references to the game and bailed on nods to mystery styles. And pick up the pace...
"The whole film felt like parody." Well...yeah. Clue is one of my all time favorites. Madeline Kahn cracks me up every time and Tim Curry is outstanding.
RIP Madeleine Kahn.
I've seen Clue probably 20 times in my life, and I can't imagine not laughing all the way through it, or getting bored. Like, it's unbelievable to me.
i couldnt even make it through the movie one time.
@@SoullessAIMusicyeah I remember watching it for the first time and feeling so disappointed! It wasn’t interesting or funny at all to me.
You missed that the singing telegram girl is Jane Wiedlin , founding member of the Go-Go’s and played Joan of arc in bill and teds excellent adventure

Absolute cold classic. Tim curry at his finest.
BLESSED BE TIM CURRY!

Erm you forgot Tim Curry’s best film Rocky horror

Clue for me, is extremely underrated.
I just watched this movie the other day. I loved it.
The cook was Nurse Kelly from MASH.
Are you sure, I thought that the cook was Kathy Bates ?

Me too. I've downloaded it.
I’ve just recently bought the 4K blu-ray too!
"I believe Colonel Mustard did it in the study with a candlestick" Couldn't help myself 😂 Thanks lads it's cool to see another 80s flick reviewed 👊
The Flames, Gary...the FLAMES!
😂😂😅
Favorite scene: Mad Kahn "Flames, flames on the side of my face". Best line and it was an adlib
This is one of my favorite movies. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it more, Gary.
This is one of my favourite movies too and I was gutted that Gary didn't like it. Even Iain was a bit Meh with it. I love every second of this movie.
Never seen it, but will watch it this week 😃

You know what would be great for you guys to review The Back To The Future Trilogy and The Matrix Trilogy. Those would be great videos.
One of my favorite movies ever I can watch this over and over again. And based on one of my favorite board games
Con air review 📽😎🎬
The actress playing Yvette has, IMHO, one of best undressing scenes in cinema ; she plays Tuckleberry's love interest (later wife) in Police Academy 2
Love this movie. Thanks for the review.

Murder by Death 1976 with Peter Sellers and Peter Falk plus many more is very similar to Clue.
They really need to update Cluedo. ‘Mr Gray with the chainsaw in the sex dungeon.’
There was talk of them doing a remake. With Ryan Reynolds as Colonel Mustard
one of my childhood favourites, so funny
I will always associate this with my childhood too and with Christmas time. It was always on TV around then.
Love this movie. You should watch 'Murder by Death' as well. Great review chaps.
Interesting way to avoid full screen copyright claims 😜
Have loved the film for a long time. And Yvette... 😊
As they say in Letterkenny: Yew!
Don't feel bordem at all. One of my favorite movies.
I never get bored of it either. Even when there are quieter moments in the movie, there are so many subtle reactions and details to keep an eye on.

One of my favorite movies of all time
My favorite Tim Curry movie!
Did you guys see Murder By Death, starring Peter Sellers(Pink Panther) and Peter Folk(Columbo), that was movie was something else, but also funny.
One of my favourite films.
Howard Hessman Plays A Cop In A Version Of this Movie Also , Which was Brief But Cool To See.

Slightly watchable...however mostly tedious. I did appreciate that the version I saw on cable in 1986 showed all 3 endings all together.
Not sure where Iain is coming from, they all have pretty heavy comedic backgrounds except for Leslie Ann Warren and maybe Colleen Camp.
I hated her, so much... Mrs. White : it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing - breathl - heaving breaths
