My father, who is 91 and not doing well today, was a jazz enthusiast. In our home, especially in the 60s, we listened to Miles, Parker, Clifford Brown, Brubeck, Bill Evans, Coltrane, Monk, etc. But I recall an album by Joe Henderson, "OUR THING," 1963. Nice going Kenny! Thank you!
Kenny, the whole reason a lot of us click onto these channels is because we’re trying to learn about music that either we were too young to know or weren’t born yet. The beautiful thing about TH-cam is if you want to get musically curious you can get on here and dabble in things that you weren’t exposed to when you just had radio. We appreciate individuals such as yourself who are knowledgeable and those of us who are probably your same age who want to expand our musical horizons. Thank you for all that you do you’re a sage and for those of us out here your wisdom is the whole reason were even on TH-cam at times to seek out musical advice and find out what we missed.
I most sincerely appreciate your comments, it means a lot to me knowing that these videos are helpful to others and I want to thank you very much for taking the time to express that 😊
Thanks for that insight Kenny. I love that movie back in 1986 and forgot how great the music actually is. I'm going to revisit that album. Thanks again, much peace! ☮️🎶☮️🎵
This is exactly the album that came to my mind! I was about to post when I saw it was already mentioned. It is so fantastic and seldom mentioned. The audience is so into it, and you are drawn in.
I cannot forget the ladies that charmed us with their sounds(Eiia, Dinah, Nina, Carman, etc.) One of my favorite albums is "Money Jungle". The fabulous trio consisted of Duke Ellington, Max Roach, and Charlie Mingus. I got to see the Duke and Mingus before they left us.
Bro, your channel is your channel. Be true to yourself and do what you want to share. People will come and go but you have to be true to yourself and your passions.
Kenny, the Round Midnight soundtrack is amazing! I would have never listened to it if it weren’t for you! Thank you!! And I’m so glad to have found you on YT!! All the best!!
What an impressive album collection he has-and the equipment he listed...this stuff use to be so easily and readily available in stores going back just 20-25 years ago-now you can't find a one of these anywhere; even online it's hard to find what you're looking for(if you're familiar with hi-fi equipment)-and even then, it'll cost you an arm and a leg, which was not the case when this stuff was available to purchase in stores years ago... I miss the sound of real music booming from your system-with not just loudness, but clarity; could hear it when one was walking past one's house as the music was playing from their stereo system; I remember how Mary Wilson of The Supremes once said how back in the days, if peoples' stereo systems were tuned to the same radio station, you could hear the music IN STEREO, because as you were walking past their houses, on the one side of the street their radio or system would be tuned to a station while across the street or a few houses down you could hear the other person tuned to the same station-and it was like being in the middle of a live concert! I remember those days...nowadays the music(if it can be called that)is BOOMING AND RATTLING, coming from this younger generations' cars; sounds like the paneling or doors are going to fall off from all of that rattling-it's that loud-and what is that doing to their ears? 8-23-24.
Round Midnight is an AMAZING study on Addiction with Dexter Gordon SHOCKINGLY GOOD in the lead role!!! Thank you SO MUCH for pointing out something that I always thought and wondered if anyone else also felt the same way!!!
I recall that the movie “Round Midnight” when it came out. It got TWO THUMBS UP from Siskel & Ebert th-cam.com/video/D9owNd8iIRo/w-d-xo.html Gene Siskel was correct, it was a bridge/stepping stone into artistry of other musicians from what I call the classical jazz period ‘Bebop’ - Ben Webster and Stanley Turrentine. It was the 80s and back then Jazz was very contemporary 70s-80s. This movie made you appreciate more of 50-60s sound of Jazz. Nice channel. Liked and subscribed
I just discovered you right this second. You’re my kindred spirit brother. I have a 10,000 piece vinyl collection I started when I was 12 and that was 40 years ago. Also I’m a jazz musician and I know a ton about films. Man I’d like to chop it up with you. Interesting choice for underrated jazz record. Great choice. It won an Oscar that year and very controversial I must say. It beat out Ennio Morricone for his score of the Roland Joffe/Robert Deniro film The Misson.
Bertrand Tavernier is a brilliant film director, so no surprise that the sound track to this film is brilliant as well! I'd recommend checking out his other films to anyone who hasn't already.
"A Sunday In The Country" is one of the most beautiful films ever made, although the pacing might be a little slow for those raised on Hollywood blockbusters. "Coup De Torchon" (aka "Clean Slate") and "Holy Lola" are two of my all time favorites, as well.
Larry Young - Unity right now is my most underrated jazz album. Fantastic playing. Woody Shaw is extremely on point in this album and it's at a peculiar place between hard bop and almost free jazz. I really need to see Round Midnight but the soundtrack is fantastic!
the movie is so powerful you cannot listen to the album without still feeling the emotion from that movie. so many beautiful moments. so many painfully great performances. Lonette McKee's 'how long has this been going on?' is one of the most beautiful cinematic musical moments ever.
I haven’t seen the movie since I saw it in a NYC theater in 1986 and I’ve never forgotten the story. You’re so right…it’s powerful indeed. Edit: This channel just popped up in my feed and I am grateful. Liked and subscribed!
My father introduced me to Cannonball Adderley years and years ago. I laughed at his name, "Cannonball what" I exclaimed. My father has passed since then but "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" is still in heavy rotation on my Spotify playlist. Thanks, Dad!
There’s no rule that says you can’t do something different - just say “this is gonna be something different” - do that movie video, some of us would be interested!❤
I was somehow introduced to Jazz by my friend and well known bass player Mads Vinding .. I dedicated a track to him .. a piece I wrote (i'm not a jazz musician) after he visited me at my home in the 80s .. it's called "A Moment with my secret Ghost" 🙂 .. The album you are talking about 'round midnight is a masterpiece 🙂
Saw this video 2 weeks ago, got totally inspired by what you were saying about this soundtrack. Went out and found a great vinyl copy locally, for a sweet price. Not a word too much i tell you.. fantastic music by so many excellent musicians.. even Chet Baker singing, playing and shining in his final year.. A Big bowl of gratitude to you ❤
Thanks for the great video. There’s a Jim Hall record called “Concierto” that is absolutely insane. Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, Paul Desmond, Chet Baker and Steve Gadd! What a lineup! I highly recommend it!
Thanks for a great video. You mentioned "Let's get lost" - well, the soundtrack to that movie might be my favorite jazz album of all time, or at least in the top 10 so that might actually ironically be my pick for the most underrated jazz album of all time :) I highly recommend it to anyone who's as moved as I am to hear Chet Baker at his best - which for me is at his old age. It's just incredible. One of the most beautiful and poetic albums you will hear in your life ! Pure beauty and emotion.
We appreciate your honesty, an unbiased choises! So many channels present commercially biased content, so keep it up!! I have the Dexter Gordon album (which is a great album), but never heard of the album produced by Herbie Hancock... I am going to have a listen... Thanks for the tip!!
Man, I'm streaming this right now, and you ain't far from totlly right. This is a great record! Thanks for the info. I'm buying this on vinyl for certain. Shopping it right now. Thank you!
I absolutely love this movie. This and "A Great Day in Harlem" are my 2 favorite movies about jazz. Glad I found this. I'll go through your back videos, Kenny. If you like movies and music, you're my friend!
There are many underrated albums and players. Time out, study in brown, Sinatra and Basie, open sesame-Hubbard. Donald Byrds first recording, Kenny Burrell first recording
Amazing video. Such a thorough review, and very well put together. I will absolutely be checking out this record. Keep on being you Kenny, and thank you for the amazing content!
Kenny, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and knowledge…It’s like having a mate discussing records with you at home. Such an engaging guy, that I subscribed within the first 3 minutes of coming across this ❤
Yes, great film. Saw it when it first came out. It was a rare thing to see such a jazz great as Gordon playing and acting in that role. The 80s were a renaissance of art and indie films.
I watched the film when it first came out. It's certainly one of my favourite films, certainly in my top 5. Great music, evocative locations, and a wonderful story.
Nice channel! Never heard of this album at all - the lineup is truly stunning - my favorites: Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter, and even Billy Higgins who worked with Ornette Coleman - wow!
I actually saw the movie while I was in the military. I had both of those albums lost them while going through a divorce. My ex got rid of my lifelong collection af Jazz records while I was on deployment. seeing you highlight those two albums was kind of hard for me. I enjoyed them both. The movie was excellent also. unfortunately there is no appetite for music or movies like that now. A great societal tragedy in my opinion. Please keep the music alive.
Kenny, you're an honest music lover and that's a beautiful thing, because it means you bring us your genuine treasures. New subscriber here. TH-cam thought I wanted to see your channel and I'm glad :-) I am now going to start going through your videos viewing the oldest ones first! Also I just ordered this CD. I knew every artist you mentioned. Looking forward to it!
Haha! I knew from when you mentioned Herb and Gordon at the beginning that you were going for the Round Midnight soundtrack. My fiance and I found it earlier this year and I couldn't agree more (although I have a different take on most underrated)--I unfortunately have not seen the movie yet, but the soundtrack is simply incredible. I'll need to think more about most underrated, but one I might throw out there is Legrand Jazz. The line-up is similarly incredible and Legrand's composing/arranging is next level. It proves how right the French filmmakers Jacques Demy was to put Legrand's name side-by-side with Duke, Mingus, and Basie as one of the great conductors/composers. Let me also say that I've been following your channel for a few months now. As a young brotha from Philly it means a lot to hear someone who sounds like they could be an uncle! Keep on keeping on Unc Kenny!
Kenny is very knowledgeable and has good insights into jazz. I like this kind of "Guys Like Me" information. I must admit that I was drawn to the "Mr. Clean" vibe.
I love films with Jazz soundtracks! Mo Better Blues etc..! I purchased Round Midnight on VHS and sound on LP here in the UK in the 80s. Kenny keep on doin' love your jazz enthusiasm.
That feeling when you find the TH-cam channel that is what you always wanted TH-cam to be. And I get to back track through all those other videos! I actually have this album but haven't listened to it in forever so that changes today. Thank you.
I am feeling your channel Kenny! You are a good man!!'Round Midnight is a beautiful album, with some of the greatest musicians of all time on it! "Chan's Song" by Herbie is HAUNTING and BEAUTIFUL!
Kenny - you da man! Keep on doing what you do, just the way you do it. I absolutely enjoy and appreciate your reviews and opinions. (I've bought too many more records because of them). 🤣
Hey Kenny. I saw Round Midnight in a theatre in Chicago when it was released. Dexter shone in that movie, despite (as I understand it at least) never having acted previously. To get the full impact of the soundtrack nothing beats the Criterion Collection blu-ray in surround. You're right: this is a great soundtrack album, and a great jazz album in its own rite. Favourite Dexter Gordon Lp: 'One Flight Up' (Blue Note Tone Poet).
I guessed it right before you even showed the album! This recording changed my life forever. I was 12 years old and couldn’t believe the harmonies and textures throughout the entire work. Every note and nuance felt out of this world. Herbie's reharmonizations as well as every note played by all these masters is a masterpiece. It is one of the 6 most influential albums of my life.
'Dex' was a friend of my uncle's, who was also a Jazz Saxophonist (Basie, Ellington, those days). The movie was fantastic, and his 1st try at acting! your sessions are like a great class in Jazz thank you so much for sharing & teaching!
Isn't it sad when you have to preface this video defending a piece of art that moves you, like there is one right answer...really. I've been at it for 45 years now & thanks to people like you, I continue to find new things that I didn't know even existed. "You don't know what you don't know". Unfortunately the masses have giant egos but lack one very rare quality, wisdom...happily quite the opposite of you Kenny. I can't believe Where Eagles Dare was your favorite movie, mine too. And it keeps you guessing right to the end! I would love to see you doing movie reviews. I will defiantly be checking out both the record & movie. And the price of admission of the second record is worth it just for that awesome cover shot of Dexter Gordon. Thanks Kenny.

wow, you are a trove of information! love your channel! personally, i think popular music is going to swing back in the direction of jazz bc a lot of todays music isn’t very interesting to listen to in the way that jazz is. willow’s latest album, empathogen , is a great example. and she’s just 26. back in the day, dave brubeck said his take 5 album was proof that popular music could be interesting if songwriters/composers choose. in the meantime, i appreciate learning more about jazz music to better inform the music i’m writing. thank you, kenny!
Hello Kenny, When you showed the album I knew I'd seen it before. In my collection to be precise. But it has been ages since I played it. It's on my turntable now . However although I have the album I've never seen the movie. So I just ordered the Criterion release of the Round Midnight movie 🎬. Really looking forward to be able to watch the movie! Thank you for this wonderful post 🙏👍. All the best from the Netherlands 🎶.
Oh hell YES!!!! Dexter should have won the Oscar for his portrayal as the lead actor. All the tracks are incredible, but my favorite.... Tivoli is a masterpiece and moves my soul everytime I hear it. Thank you for sharing this gem.
I saw the movie in the theater, and I bought the DVD not too long ago, long past time I watched it again! Thank you so much for this! I am in awe of your extensive collection!
I’m gonna throw some love to my favorite male vocal jazz album: The very well-known Johnny Hartman & John Coltrane. Give it a listen if you’ve never heard it. You will fall in love with Johnny Hartman‘s voice. And how often can you say about an album-“ oh, and it also has John Coltrane on it”!🤣🤣
Hey man, thanks for that info. I love me some jazz. Lucky enough to see the sensational Roy Haynes, Monk On Monk, Nnenna Frelon and my man, Sonny Rollins. The musicality of the Jazz masters is off the charts!
Man! You're naming all my favorites here! Brought back memories of when I first heard Chic Corea's Light as a Feather, and Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage which runs tied to Horace Silver's Song for My Father! Had no idea what album you were going to show. But I do have that album! Truly glad that I happened upon this channel. The Music Enthusiast are GREAT here! Where Eagles Dare! Great movie! I like to watch it along with Ron Ryan's Express, and the Great Escape a couple times a year. And Christmas Story... ha! Never forget your childhood.
If you gave me a few hours to make a list, I could come up with loads of underrated albums, but right off the bat the first one I can think of is Frank Strozier's 'Fantastic Frank Strozier' (VeeJay, 1960)
Kenny, I just stumbled upon your channel after enjoying Jaco Pastorius "Microcosm". How that song is an album outtake I will never ever understand. This 27 year old Jazz nut from Indiana just subbed. Keep the content coming my man!
I appreciate you and your kind comments. I'm happy that my content is reaching a younger age bracket and props to you for being into jazz. Thank you very much for watching my video from Indiana 😊 ✌️
Very interesting video. I am Ignorant about youtube's copyright rules but, instead of just showing album covers I really wish you could play some short samples of these LPs. Every jazz record I Ever listen to. I always compare them to "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis.💙🎧
I love when people have best/favorite/most underrated lists that are different from my personal choices. It's a good way to either learn about artists I haven't heard of before or get a new perspective on artists I've slept on. People who only want to see content that validates everything they already feel are uninteresting bores. Respect for staying true to your own sense of taste.
didnt take mr clean for a jazz fan, love it
😊😁😄
I have no idea why this video showed up in my feed, but I am glad it did. I am now permanently subscribed!!!!
Thank you very much for subscribing 😊
Same here
I know, me too. I'm in the house now!!!
Same here.
Thank you 😊
My father, who is 91 and not doing well today, was a jazz enthusiast. In our home, especially in the 60s, we listened to Miles, Parker, Clifford Brown, Brubeck, Bill Evans, Coltrane, Monk, etc. But I recall an album by Joe Henderson, "OUR THING," 1963.
Nice going Kenny! Thank you!
Thank you very much for sharing your fathers and family's love for jazz and the jazz greats and thanks for watching my video 😊 ✌️
What a legacy.🙏🏾 Respect. 💕
God bless your dad.

I love your comment. Right there with you, Mark.
Kenny: No need to apologize. I want to hear your opinion. Why? Because I think you are one of the most under-rated guys on YT. Keep 'em coming.
I appreciate that very much, thank you 😊 ✌️
Thanks for that insight Kenny. I love that movie back in 1986 and forgot how great the music actually is. I'm going to revisit that album. Thanks again, much peace! ☮️🎶☮️🎵
Thank you very much I appreciate that and I hope that you enjoy the album 😊 ✌️
I’d agree there but I think you are select and premium!
Didnt hear any jazz music ??!
Mercy Mercy Mercy by Cannonball Adderley is damn near perfection and highly underrated!
Great choice 👌 👍...one of my favorite jazz albums.
This is exactly the album that came to my mind! I was about to post when I saw it was already mentioned. It is so fantastic and seldom mentioned. The audience is so into it, and you are drawn in.
I was fortunate to hear him play that at Shelley's Manne Hole. It got everyone jumping.
I liked it from the time I heard it as a 8 years old boy.
Mercy Mercy Mercy was composed by Joe Zawinul.
I cannot forget the ladies that charmed us with their sounds(Eiia, Dinah, Nina, Carman, etc.) One of my favorite albums is "Money Jungle". The fabulous trio consisted of Duke Ellington, Max Roach,
and Charlie Mingus. I got to see the Duke and Mingus before they left us.
What a blessing to be able see Duke and Ellington in person 🙏 👏 👍 🎶
Let’s keep jazz alive forever. Great to recommend the best guys. ❤
Thank you very much 😊

10:22 I saw this more than once in the theater. Bought the soundtrack right away. I always respect and appreciate your recommendations.
Thank you very much ✌️ 😊
Hats off to you for just a nice collection. I love your record room!
Thank you very much 😊
That's the movie that got me interested in jazz when I was a kid. Great choice.
It is a great movie indeed and it's cool that it had a positive impact on you musicly 😊
Me, too! And what an amazing lineup--all working together to selflessly raise consciousness about jazz.
Round Midnight is an AMAZING study on Addiction with Dexter Gordon SHOCKINGLY GOOD in the lead role!!! Thank you SO MUCH for pointing out something that I always thought and wondered if anyone else also felt the same way!!!
I appreciate you, thank you very much for mentioning that and watching my video 😊 ✌️
I recall that the movie “Round Midnight” when it came out. It got TWO THUMBS UP from Siskel & Ebert

"A Sunday In The Country" is one of the most beautiful films ever made, although the pacing might be a little slow for those raised on Hollywood blockbusters. "Coup De Torchon" (aka "Clean Slate") and "Holy Lola" are two of my all time favorites, as well.
Bertrand Tavernier a filmé la scène de concert en plein air dans le théâtre romain de Lyon sa ville natale.
''Dans la brume électrique'' le film avec Tommy Lee Jones tourne aux Etats unis est remarquable également.
Larry Young - Unity right now is my most underrated jazz album. Fantastic playing. Woody Shaw is extremely on point in this album and it's at a peculiar place between hard bop and almost free jazz.
I really need to see Round Midnight but the soundtrack is fantastic!
Thank you very much for your recommendation 😊 ✌️ ...I hope that you get see the movie at some point.
Yes! Unity. Blew me away twenty years ago and since then and thank you for reminding me to listen to it again.
So good
One of my favorite albums. Favorite organ project.
Funny, I wanted to say Rosewood or in my own sweet way by Woody Shaw as my favorite go to albums

You've got some pretty killer albums in your collection!
Thank you very much 😊 ✌️
I'm so glad you picked this. I have the soundtrack and listen to it a lot. I watched the movie over and over when I was in college.
Most underrated IMO (by which I mean it's less well known than it deserves to be) - Oliver Nelson's The Blues And The Abstract Truth.
That Oliver Nelson album is great with its all star group of musicians 👏 👍
I'd have said it was well known to be a top album.
Fuck. Ya. Oliver Nelson Was Mancini and Miles together in one. The tastiest of tasty.
Seeing how great Mancini and Miles were...I can respect that opinion 👍 👌 👏
Couldn't agree more. It just frickin swings.
Ken Burns offering on Jazz history is the greatest Documentary AND film work of all time for me.
We appreciate your honesty, an unbiased choises!
So many channels present commercially biased content, so keep it up!!
I have the Dexter Gordon album (which is a great album), but never heard of the album produced by Herbie Hancock...
I am going to have a listen...
Thanks for the tip!!

Amazing video. Such a thorough review, and very well put together. I will absolutely be checking out this record. Keep on being you Kenny, and thank you for the amazing content!
Lee Morgan , Lonnie Smith, Ronnie Laws I would say Herbie Hancock but he mentioned Herbie already 🎶🎺🎹
Kenny, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and knowledge…It’s like having a mate discussing records with you at home. Such an engaging guy, that I subscribed within the first 3 minutes of coming across this ❤

Wow!!! What an incredible collection of music! Love how you arranged some by color!
Thank you so much!
Yes, great film. Saw it when it first came out. It was a rare thing to see such a jazz great as Gordon playing and acting in that role. The 80s were a renaissance of art and indie films.
Solid choice as a movie and recording. One Flight Up would be one of my choices. Keep on keeping on Kenny.
Checking it out now on this chill Sunday morning. Nice channel, glad I got the recommendation!
YT creators like you get me closer to jazz. Thank you
Thank you very much for that 😊 ✌️
just discovered this channel...instantly hooked. Thank you Kenny!
I'm a new viewer here and I'm just now getting back into listening to Jazz again. I just subscribed and I look forward to your Jazz Record Reviews. 💯
Thank you very much for subscribing. I hope that you enjoy my videos 😊✌️
I watched the film when it first came out. It's certainly one of my favourite films, certainly in my top 5. Great music, evocative locations, and a wonderful story.
"I cant help what the audience likes." Now that is some solid advice.
This guy is great. Love his approach.
When you were going thru the lineup, I didn't think such an album could even exist. Then you said "movie soundtrack", and my brain went "Click!"
😊😁
Nice channel! Never heard of this album at all - the lineup is truly stunning - my favorites: Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter, and even Billy Higgins who worked with Ornette Coleman - wow!
Thank you for watching my video. The lineup on the album is amazing and the album is great 👍 👌 🎶
OMG! ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE BEST MOVIES EVER!! AGAIN MY FRIEND, AMAZING VIDEO!! KEEP IT UP!!!❤
Thank you 😊 ....the movie always will be special to me
Agree Since I remember I wanted that Album, masterpiece
Thank you very much for watching 😊 ✌️
I fucking love this guys vibe and passion
I appreciate that ✌️
I actually saw the movie while I was in the military.
Thank you for sharing your comments. Thank you very much for serving in the military 👏 🙏
That's sad to hear! I'm a collector to and that's very cruel I hope you start over and get blessed with some rare things that you didn't have Sir😊
Thank you very much and thank you for subscribing 😊 ✌️
For most underrated, I'll say for now Bobby Timmons, Born to Be Blue!
Legrand Jazz is an excellent choice. I appreciate your kind words tremendously ✌️
Kenny is very knowledgeable and has good insights into jazz. I like this kind of "Guys Like Me" information. I must admit that I was drawn to the "Mr. Clean" vibe.
I appreciate that very much, thank you 😊 ✌️
I love films with Jazz soundtracks! Mo Better Blues etc..! I purchased Round Midnight on VHS and sound on LP here in the UK in the 80s. Kenny keep on doin' love your jazz enthusiasm.
Thank you 😊. Mo Better Blues is a great one 👏 👍
we love jazz....and the great artists who have made it .....may GOD bless them ....!
That feeling when you find the TH-cam channel that is what you always wanted TH-cam to be. And I get to back track through all those other videos! I actually have this album but haven't listened to it in forever so that changes today. Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate that 😊 🙏 💯
I am feeling your channel Kenny! You are a good man!!'Round Midnight is a beautiful album, with some of the greatest musicians of all time on it! "Chan's Song" by Herbie is HAUNTING and BEAUTIFUL!
Where Eagles Dare is a killer movie!
I love that one and Guns of Navarone. Good flicks.
Thank You for your insight. Being a fusion fan you bring me many happy hours of listening.
Your welcome and thank you very much for watching 😊 ✌️
Kenny - you da man! Keep on doing what you do, just the way you do it. I absolutely enjoy and appreciate your reviews and opinions. (I've bought too many more records because of them). 🤣
😊😁😄....thank you very much for that, its much appreciated ✌️
Just downloaded and listened to this! Thank you for bringing my attention to this. What a gift!
I appreciate your comments, thank you very much 😊 ✌️
Dexter Gordon was magnificent in that role 👏 👌
I guessed it right before you even showed the album! This recording changed my life forever. I was 12 years old and couldn’t believe the harmonies and textures throughout the entire work. Every note and nuance felt out of this world. Herbie's reharmonizations as well as every note played by all these masters is a masterpiece. It is one of the 6 most influential albums of my life.
Excellent one, sir!
Thank you 😊
'Dex' was a friend of my uncle's, who was also a Jazz Saxophonist (Basie, Ellington, those days). The movie was fantastic, and his 1st try at acting! your sessions are like a great class in Jazz thank you so much for sharing & teaching!
I appreciate your comments, thank you very much and thanks for watching 😊
really nice call out. I will check it out. great line up. My most underrated would be some of the Bobby H and Harold L records. Those are so great.
I appreciate you and your comments, thank you very much. I hope that you enjoy the movie and the music 🎶 ✌️
Keep On Rockin' Kenny !!!
I appreciate you, thank you very much ✌️
I totally agree! I LOVE THAT ALBUM AND MOVIE!
So happy the algorithm sent you to me. Your easy to listen to, super informative, discussing my favorite music, Jazz...
I sincerely appreciate that, thank you very much 😊 ✌️
Loved those movies too. I have been fortunate enough to see Bobby McFerrin sitting in with VSOP, awesome stuff.
When You Got Round To It,
"Around Midnight" ...My Favorite Jazz Movie... And Soundtrack.
👍👍
Thank you very much for Getting Around to watch my video 😊, I really appreciate it..."Round Midnight" is is definitely fantastic 👌 😁

wow, you are a trove of information! love your channel! personally, i think popular music is going to swing back in the direction of jazz bc a lot of todays music isn’t very interesting to listen to in the way that jazz is. willow’s latest album, empathogen , is a great example. and she’s just 26. back in the day, dave brubeck said his take 5 album was proof that popular music could be interesting if songwriters/composers choose. in the meantime, i appreciate learning more about jazz music to better inform the music i’m writing. thank you, kenny!
Thank you for your wisdom elder brother✊🏾
I appreciate that, thank you very much ✌️
Love the commentary. Checking out these albums now!
Hello Kenny,
When you showed the album I knew I'd seen it before.
You will enjoy the movie..thank you very much for watching from the Netherlands 😊
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews You're welcome Kenny !
Kind regards, Arno
First visit to your channel…your enthusiasm pulled me in. Liked and subscribed!!
I appreciate that and thank you very much for subscribing to my channel 😊
You should reconsider doing movie reviews, sir. Music and cinema are so interlinked and we would love to hear you speak about both.
Thank you very much for your recommendation 😊 ✌️
I am so glad I found this channel. Thank you sir! Subscribed.
Thank you very much for subscribing ✌️
Oh hell YES!!!! Dexter should have won the Oscar for his portrayal as the lead actor. All the tracks are incredible, but my favorite.... Tivoli is a masterpiece and moves my soul everytime I hear it. Thank you for sharing this gem.
I appreciate your comments and thank you for recognizing Dexter Gordon's genius of a performance in the movie 🎬 ✌️
I saw the movie in the theater, and I bought the DVD not too long ago, long past time I watched it again! Thank you so much for this! I am in awe of your extensive collection!
I appreciate that, thank you very much. I am glad that you enjoyed the movie 🎬 😊
I’m gonna throw some love to my favorite male vocal jazz album:
The very well-known Johnny Hartman & John Coltrane.
Give it a listen if you’ve never heard it. You will fall in love with Johnny Hartman‘s voice. And how often can you say about an album-“ oh, and it also has John Coltrane on it”!🤣🤣
It's in my collection, great choice as Hartman's voice is amazing 👏 👏
Great album, Hartman was amazing and Coltrane was excellent!
Hey man, thanks for that info. I love me some jazz. Lucky enough to see the sensational Roy Haynes, Monk On Monk, Nnenna Frelon and my man, Sonny Rollins. The musicality of the Jazz masters is off the charts!
Dexter did a fantastic job on the movie Round Midnight. Great movie! 🥴👍
No doubt, Dexter Gordon was amazing 👏
Thank you Kenny! Added that one to my queue today and am going to check out the movie tonight. I appreciate you sharing your inspiration 🙏
In my personal opinion, the most underrated modern jazz album is Sonny Clark's "Cool Struttin'."
Great choice as that album is a classic 👌 👍
Yes good choice
@josesanchez-os7zr ...False!
Most cats never even heard of Sonny - even famous pianists know. Sad
Give up some love for “Crescent” by Trane my brutha …
Then listen to it all day long
I appreciate you and your great comments...I agree with what you said totally, never forget your childhood 😊✌️
If you gave me a few hours to make a list, I could come up with loads of underrated albums, but right off the bat the first one I can think of is Frank Strozier's 'Fantastic Frank Strozier' (VeeJay, 1960)
I'm going to have to check that album out. Thank you very much for the recommendation 😊
I am Ignorant about youtube's copyright rules but, instead of just showing album covers
I really wish you could play some short samples of these LPs. Every jazz record I Ever listen to. I always compare them to
"Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis.💙🎧
I do not play music at risk of having my video removed and/or being suspended from youtube, it's simply not worth the risk.
I thought one was in the clear as long as the clip is 8 seconds or shorter- I must be misinformed…
You look like "Mr. Clean" 💪✨
You are probably the 10th person to say that...so it must be true 😊😁😄🤣
I saw you and the records. Simple now I want to here what you have to say. No gimmicks just real. Thank you.
