Earth Wind and Fire, A love supreme, and What's goin on are in my albums I couldn't live without. What I relate with you is when I was in college in Nashville, I learned more about music than at any other time. What was so cool is Nashville was a fusion jazz destination for concerts. My personal album I could not live with out is Return to Forever Romantic Warrior. Thanks Kenny, I really respect your opinions. I will listen to your suggestions.

No disagreement with your selections Kenny, especially not with Brazil 66...I would just add for me, John Coltrane's music. Lifted me up when I was down.
What a great video, Sir! Congratulations! I also love many of those as well. Savannah, Benson, Gaye, Mendes... yes, they are AWESOME! I discuss this issue myself in one of my videos: the songs/albums/artists we like best are usually the ones we listened during our teen years. That seems to be your case as well. During those days, music hit us in special ways. Keep making awesome videos, Sir!
Another great video Kenny. More albums for me to investigate and listen to! Was pleased to see Mr Gone on your list in this video. Like you I bought this one when it came out and is the album that started opening up my love of jazz (although I didn't realise that at the time!) All the best, Mike, East Yorkshire
Wow... Rod Mckuen... I remember (as a kid playing hooky) watching him show up on the sixties Merv Griffin show. He had one red tennis shoe and one blue on. Merv asked, "Why are you wearing two different colored shoes?" And Rod said, "Because I can." Never forgot that. Peace on earth. P.S. These albums are all fun and influential, hell yes.
Dr Buzzard / August Darnell / Kid Creole is so under-appreciated!! And I love those Herbie Hancock and Weather Report albums, not their best work indeed, but sometimes music hits you in a certain way or at a certain time that it sticks forever. Inspiring video, Sir!
Good day to you Kenny! I hope and pray that you and your family are well! I enjoyed this video very much. This concept poses a conundrum for me. The reason being is that I was not really an habitual 'full album' listener. That changed in the last ten years of my life. Don't ask me why, because I really couldn't say. 😊 I grew up influenced by the music of my grandparents, my parents and my teenaged babysitting cousins. I heard WWI marching tunes, big band era, classical, crooners and rock and roll. Your list introduced me to some music that I have never heard before. Some albums that I will mention as being very influential on me.... Marvin Gaye What's going on? left me dumbfounded! What an album....lyrically, musically Freedom At Point Zero Jefferson Starship.....the first LP I ever bought with my own money. Weird Al Yankovic's first album Yello One Second. I heard 'Oh Yeah' on the Ferris Bueller soundtrack. I bought the album and really enjoyed every song on it. This is going to sound odd.... Perry Como's Christmas Album To this day, I can listen to it and I am transported back to laying on my parent's living room carpet, mesmerized by the big old light bulbs on the tree and the tinsel reflecting a myriad of color as that album spun on the turntable. God's Peace to you and all here 🙏 💪✌️
Thank you very much for your comments, I appreciate it and God bless you and your family. You mentioned Ferris Bueller, I remember the day that I saw that great movie as if it were yesterday 😊
1. Marvin Gaye - I Want You 2. Curtis Mayfield - Super Fly 3. Donny Hathaway - Extension of a Man 4. EWF - Spirit 5. Isaac Hayes - Shaft 6. Angela Bofill - Angel of the Night 7. Ramsey Lewis - Tequila Mockingbird 8. Gino Vannelli - Pauper in Paradise 9. Boz Scaggs - Down two, then left 10. George Benson - Breezin' (Honorable mentions - Peabo Bryson - Reaching for the Sky, Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, Maynard Ferguson - New Vintage )
Some great shows there and many I smiled about and nodded in agreement , I am roughly the same age as you as I'm 62 . I have over half of those albums and it's great to see a list of albums that ' mean ' so much to you and not necessarily a greatest albums of all time list .
In no special order: Curtis Mayfield - Superfly James Brown - Sex Machine Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsy 's Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits Weather Report - Mysterious Traveler Return To Forever - Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy Miles Davis - Bitches Brew Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters Pink Floyd - The Dark Sky Of The Moon King Crimson - Larks Tongue In Aspect
What i love about your channel is the damn i have that album moments. You have single-handedly reminded me of what I have in my collection and the revisiting of the great times i had and the people i listened with. Lol and the gear i used to have. Fondly remember my reel to reel. Lol a little controversial is your choice of George Benson. Gimme the night is not even his best album. Some argue that this is the album that made him sell out. Do you really think it was his best? If not how can you not live without it? Don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic masterpiece.
Kenny, I have to agree with you on so many of your selections. When you include Sergio, I knew you were a serious. There was a saying in my neighborhood, that if you didn't have any Sergio in your collections, you couldn't be a player. However, as good as your list is, brother you have to include some Wes. I know there's so much good music out there but you just can't exclude Wes', Day In The Life. Buddy Miles Live album with "Down By The River" is certainly a classic. Got to go too much music going through my mind. Just thinking of the mind, Music Of My Mind by Stevie is classic. I thank you and keep the videos coming.
Really interesting list. I remember a book/poem by R McKeun called Listen to The Warm. Got me interested in writing poetry. I always pull Light as A Feather as a have to have. Peace, my friend
I have several Rod Mckuen books and Listen to the Warm is one of the, nice book. He also has a album of the same name that's nice also. Peace to you and I hope that you have a great week ✌️
Four Albums that I couldn't live without, that were significant soundtracks throughout my life are (in no particular order) 👉 Joni Mitchel, "Blue" 👉 Joni Mitchell, "Free Man in Paris" 👉 Marvin Gaye, "What's Go'in On' 👉 Miles Davis, "Kind of Blue" 👉 The soundtrack from "Un Homme et Une Femme" 👉 Stevie Wonder, "Songs in the Key of Life" 👉 Stevie Wonder, "Intervision" 👉 Getz/Gilberto 👉 Melanie, Melanie 👉 Paul McCarty, Ram (I started off thinking that I'd only list two 🤣)
Great vid, Kenny! On a side note, love the watches you are wearing! Seeing some different hi-end looking ones in your vids. Can you please introduce the cool watches you are wearing in the intro as a little add-on for us that like vinyl & watches? Cool....thanks!
Hello sir! New subscriber here. I enjoy this sort of content. I'm the only person in my circle of friends with such an eclectic taste in music. I grew up on Motown primarily, then I heard of a dude named Jimi Hendrix. Boom!! I was done. Due to listening to his style of music (which in my opinion is hard to define) I was able to branch out and give other types of music a try. Although my typical go to is mainly jazz and r&b, my faves are all over the map. And btw, I have to rank my favorites by the criteria of "listenability" or, can I listen to the whole album without skipping a single tune? This channel (Kenny's Audiophile Record Reviews) is the Truth! I have many of the albums featured in this video. I'm honored to know we share a similar music library of classics. 😎 Note: It's imperative to own Miles Davis's "The Complete B**tches Brew Sessions." There's a sweet piece included on there called "Take It Or Leave It." Definitely can't live without that particular unreleased track that wasn't included on the original BB release. And yes, Kenny … Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" is Thee Best Album EVER Made!!!🎵🎵🎶🎶
Good morning Kenny: You surely like many directions in music besides jazz. But love to hear your opinions about this eclectic mix. Brasil 66 did some wonderful stuff. But can't agree that Coltrane's A Love Supreme is overlooked. One of my favorites that's been forgotten is Max Roach + 4 on Polygram. Recorded in Sept. and March of 1956 and 1957. This is the original Brown/Roach group but Kenny Dorham replaces Clifford and the great Ray Bryant replaces Ritchie Powell. Sonny Rollins is outasight. The first track, Ezz-Thetic by George Russell is my favorite (sort of a-tonal but not a-tonal). And the CD has some original tracks that did not appear on vinyl. And well recorded. Keep these posts coming.
My daughter recently asked me what were my 5 top albums. Dr Buzzard made the top 5 included are: Tito Puente and his concert orchestra Frank Sinatra & Count Basie It might as well be Swing Fela Africa 70 with Ginger Baker Sabor Cubano Wilfredo de Los Reyes
Kenny, I really enjoyed watching your video. You brought back some memories for me. I still have my original of Dr. Buzzard. It was given to me by late uncle Herman. He influenced me on my love for all types of music. I wanted to give some of my albums that I could not live with out. I may go over the number of 10, but as you said it's my list. In no particular order. Miles Davis - "Bitches Brew" Jeff Beck - "Blow By Blow" Moby - "Play" Norah Jones - "Come Away With Me" The Rippingtons - "Tourist In Paradise" Basia - "Time And Tide" Mother's Finest - "Another Mother Further" Charlie Hunter Quartet - Songs From The Analog Playground" Nuyorican Soul - "S/T" Dusty Trails - "S/T" Amy Winehouse - "Back To Black" Saint Etienne - "Good Humor" Acoustic Alchemy - "Reference Point" Pat Metheny Group - "S/T" Return To Forever - "Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy" Hiromi - "Another Mind"
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your list; its a list with a lot of variety 👌 👍...I love the of the Rippingtons Amy Winehouse and Return to Forever picks.
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I wanted to add so much more, but I had to stop myself. It wasn't easy. I have a love of lists. It's my kryptonite. LOL. Somebody stop me.
DEVO - "New Traditionalists" (1981) The Kaygee's - "Keep On Bumpin' & Masterplan" (1974) Hubert Laws - "Afro-Classic" (1970) Manfred Mann's Earth Band - "Chance" (1980) Sad Cafe - "Misplaced Ideals" (1978) Ambrosia - "Life Beyond L.A." (1978) Quincy Jones - "I Heard That!!" (1976) Steely Dan - "The Royal Scam" (1976) Rupert Holmes - "Partners in Crime" (1979) Katy Perry - "Witness" (2017) Bananarama - "True Confessions" (1986) Little River Band - "Sleeper Catcher" (1978) Eddie Kendricks - "Goin' Up in Smoke" (1976)
I'm not good at making lists. I think "A Love Supreme" would make it - Part II: Redemption is probably my all-time favorite jazz song. That or "Moanin'" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Jeff Beck - "Blow by Blow" would also make my list.
Sunlight by Herbie Hancock ! I always loved I thought it was you , great groove and song and solo and riffs . Herbie wears a suit by Tommy Nutter , really cool tailors shop that was in Saville Row the street where the Beatles played on the roof . I used to work in another shop in that street in 1985 . Always wondered if Herbie would be turning up ? Jaco plays on Good Question I think it is with Tony Williams. Herbie has two piano solos going on , think I saw Herbie in a yellow sports car near that shop on regent street . Recently got a dvd of Blow Up a cool 1965 London film with Herbie doing the sountrack
Thank you very much for your great comments about Herbie Hancock and his Sunlight album. I believe Herbie Hancock purchased one of the original Shelby Cobra sports cars back in the day and I think that he still may have it.
Dr. Buzzard's debut is an enduring classic as is the follow up "Meets King Pennett (which I like even better). My list would include - David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees, Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates, Sylvester Living Proof, Prince - Under the Cherry Moon, Dione Warwick Aquarela Do Brasil, Rufus ft. Chaka Khan - Ask Rufus, Isaac Hayes - Black Moses and Diana Ross - Lady Sings the Blues
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Its a more mature record - takes more chances musically and builds on the sound of the debut album. Corey is in great form -th-cam.com/video/LYbD0mmOVTs/w-d-xo.html
Hey Kenny love your videos and your passion. I agree with Marvin that release is so utterly holy, love it. Regarding Rod McKuen, in my top 10 would be Frank Sinatra's 'A Man Alone' for the same reason that you so beautifully expressed, all lyrics are by Rod and the fact that its Frank in his later years singing about loss and regret, it's beautiful and also simultaneously searingly painful to listen to, beautiful string arrangements too. I assume you know of that release, but if not, check that out, you will LOVE it.
It makes me wonder the kind of experiences you went through that made you fall for the kistch of Rod McKuen or the banality of Longet's singing. We share something.

I'm not good at making lists. I think "A Love Supreme" would make it - Part II: Redemption is probably my all-time favorite jazz song. That or "Moanin'" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Jeff Beck - "Blow by Blow" would also make my list.
Van Morrison Astral Weeks
👏 👍 🎶....fantastic album 👌
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews look on the back of the lp cover , I’m sure it mentions Herbie suit in the credits !
Hey Kenny! ✌️ great channel!! Many thanks. Edit: appreciate your insight into each one.going to check out Claudine

Grant Green live in France
If that follow up album is better, I'm definitely going to give it a listen to ✌️
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Its a more mature record - takes more chances musically and builds on the sound of the debut album.
Thank you very much for mentioning that Frank Sinatra album. I have to copies of the album, one the two Rod Mckuen sent to me in 1987.

It makes me wonder the kind of experiences you went through that made you fall for the kistch of Rod McKuen or the banality of Longet's singing. We share something.
