Jungle, enjoyed the interview very much, one of my favorite poker interviews from this year but the lighting you're using is creepy looking. Maybe try a different bulb or something 👍 Looking forward to more interviews...
I'm surprised when they were talking about rakes and drops in different states and countries that they didn't bring up Portland oregon, there's no rake at all you just paid $20 at the door and you can play poker all day...
Gotta say, as a live pro, i never really considered Bart that good, but after this interview, I gained a lot of respect for him. He definitely knows what he is talking about when it comes to low and midstakes live poker.
The thing about Bart is he isn't a "crusher" - despite the name Crush Live Poker. He knows what he's good at, and knows how to exploit weakness at low to mid stakes, and knows how to make a lot of money doing what he does. He's not gonna go toe to toe in the nose bleeds, cause (at least from what it seems) he knows his game, and knows how to beat it over and over again. So I respect his game and respect how well he knows how to exploit 2-5 through 5-10-25 and even higher. But yea, you're not gonna find him in Bobbys Room or anything.
The thing is being at least decent, not tilting and being fun to play with prints money live. It's about so much more than some theoretical understanding
Dan's never been my favorite player, but because his life/poker experience is so different from my own, I'm subscribing. Dan, if you're giving it a shot to share what you know, I'm listening. I was a part-time to full-time New England pro from 2005-2020. Like Bart, I liked playing a level or two below where my EV would have peaked. Partly for his reason of avoiding much bigger swings, therefore reducing my bankroll requirements. But maybe a bit more for the fact that I'd rather be completely relaxed and joking around with fun recreational players, plus be significantly better than any other semi-pro or pro players at the table, usually. I enjoyed playing a level or two up with the toughest pros at Foxwoods, and still won at those levels. I eventually stopped being targeted by them, after gaining respect by taking their money when they'd try blowing me off hands. Once confident playing the toughest game in the room, I was happy to drop back down most of the time, and only play with them when their games got fish-laden. When a bunch of fish were in their game (usually restaurant owners) then I'd join them in taking my slice of that pie. But the rest of the time, I'd just have fun knowing I'm grinding out easy money in a more comfortable game. One big difference is that as Bart says, the higher game might be barely breakeven for me much of the week, when it's just the best pros grinding against each other paying rake, and have a great win rate maybe 20 hours per week. While at "my" game, I could play any hour of any day, as many hours as I wanted, and not have a single hour of it be breakeven or losing EV. Though I don't believe in tapping on the fish tank or giving free lessons, there were also cases where I knew that some aspiring players viewed me as a role model both technically and behaviorally. In a few cases, I actively advised/mentored them, though obviously not while at the table with them. Helping someone to become a smart player, a pleasant player to be at the table with, and not someone driving future new players away from the game, is a pretty good feeling.
Wow....really impressed by Bart's thought process, didn't know much about him before this podcast. I agree, if a poker player has the ability to make 75K live, they have the intelligence and can most likely find a job that pays more with benefits, health insurance, vacation days, annual increases. For 99% of individuals, it would be a terrible choice to give up a career and play poker full time .
Not having a job-that’s winning in life Can’t put a price tag on waking up everyday when you like. Sure it takes discipline and hard work. But hard work isn’t a job. Best
Someone making 50k at poker can make considerably more day trading and the skills transfers over to it. But you would have to basically go to trading college like we did with poker.
@tylervinsongolf Yeah you can clearly see that he hasn't been coached on the art of "being the host" in podcasting. You are supposed to help the guest shine, not push back on every angle like you are trying to get value from a fish. Aside from the fact that he seems bored like a hot chick at points where he is like "yeah yeah yeah you got anymore big pot stories you might have forgotten about"
if you made 50k and its "cash," you can live off that, but you need a roll, and you need another income. Most will not get ahead if you stay at 50k very often
SMH it Jungleman has way more live california experience than I do (none for me). and I knew it was a drop rather than rake from watching LATB with bart and tuchman for years.
I've always agreed with Bart’s take That the IQ and skills required to be Making $50k-$100k in poker if applied to bring just an entrepreneur you're going to make $150-$200k
Live and online are totally different games. If you're playing gto live in any game worth playing you're leaving a lot of money in the table. Additionally the vast majority of gto bots still don't understand what live poker is really about. They almost all are terrible socially, tank etc and poison their player pools. Bart is also 100 percent right about how people used to play nl. I can remember opens to 50 in 2/5 nl where 6 people would call. These days almost all the real gamblers are in plo.
A regular career is basically ALWAYS financially preferable to full time poker because of stuff like 401ks and insurance and all that. Unless you’re one of the top top top players who can make millions a year playing poker.
My only argument against playing poker for a living at a young age is that you lose the opportunity to move up in the workplace. Even if you’re going to work for a new company, you’re still getting paid more as the years go by because of your prior work history and experience. Not sure “professional gambler” helps much on most applications
$50k is $25/hr...it's very difficult to not find a job that pays that. I've seen McDonald's offering $21/hr in certain areas. You need to start poker as side gig. Play 15/20 hours a week and if you can get $25-$50/hr there, there's your toy money.
In a game filled with so many crypto-bros and neo-libertarians it is really nice to hear a successful player condemning corporate greed and expressing more thoughtful opinions about the role of government. Dan's idea that casinos (or any coroporation) shouldn't be able to just start making more profits because they feel like it is wonderfully optimistic and it's a shame more people don't feel that way.
what i cant believe is there are some people who own a ton of bitcoin willing to vote for Kamala, when only RFK, desantis or Trump are doing everything they can to protect bitcoin and stop a CBDC from replacing bitcoin. Kamala would jail and seize everyone for owning bitcoin if she could. she would probably stop all poker rooms from accepting cash.
Yes. I remember being berated by better players. If I won, they criticized and talked about me in the third person. If I lost, they laughed. It was no fun and I quit the game for 15 years. Now I'm back better, playing tight, grinding out $50/hour at 5/5, live NL home games.
I don’t think he’s being a douche, I think he’s completed detached from living in the real world 😂 I guarantee he has no idea how much it costs to run a household with kids, car, insurance, utilities etc. I really like him don’t get me wrong, I think you need to bear in mind that he’s almost certainly neurodivergent and hasn’t had to check his bank account in the last decade
I like jungleman, big fan, but I remember seeing him in a jacket recently that had a red star/chinese star on it. So I'm NOT surprised one bit that he would defend a Chinese government. Im not sure why he's doing that but it makes sense.
To me, that sounded like he’s trying to stay in good graces. He travels there to play and maybe does business over there. When he repeated the phrase praising the CCP, I found it strange. Could be naïveté, but I felt like it could also be that it’s a business move
Xi Jinping has a completely different direction than the previous guy, and he has made moves to cling to power beyond the regular term. So not strange if billionaires try to get out.
When food costs, labor cost, minimum wage goes up business’ will push the cost onto customers with increased costs of goods. I’m in no way advocating for casinos, but it’s happened in all industry’s. You can’t go to Taco Bell and buy food for yourself for 10$ anymore
It's fun seeing comments from people who have probably never left their state, much less their country, berating the observations of guys talking about places where they've not only traveled dozens of times, but have spent time earning a living. People living in their own little bubble, think their favorite TV station tells them everything they need to know about the world. OTOH, Dan being out of touch with the rake and drop in normal-stakes games, is also hilarious. Just another case of someone living in their own bubble. At least it sounds like Dan is going to check it out, and get back in touch with the system the produces the players, a few of whom will become the blood donors in the games he plays in himself.
Always surprised at young peoples' inability to articulate/converse/analyze politics. They completely lack any vocabulary, historical frameworks, etc. . . Thanks for explaining how the Chicom government is "doing the right thing", instead of those dastardly capitalists who make stuff, Dan. My sense is that Dan's moral framework is the same as most of his generation -- what's "good" is whatever advances their personal position.
I think this was a very disrespectful interview. You disagreed with everything your guest said and just wanted to prove him wrong. If you think you know better than your guest, why even have him on?
You ever notice most the poker players they win millions apparently zoom in from the most basic apartments. Where are their waterfront mansions? Lol poker isn’t what people think it is
Poker is one of the few professions where you have to pay to go to work. The bankroll requirements to play mid to high stakes daily and comfortably handle any potential swings can be massive. You can have what most people would consider a lot of money but have to live small because that money is required for work instead of being free to spend.

What he said about the euro poker players is 100 percent accurate. They come over here and poison player pools and they aren't enjoyable for anyone to play with. Many also don't tip.
This is silly. All competition is like this. There's nothing wrong with it. If you beat me at tennis your exploiting my weaknesses. That doesn't make it non-growth oriented.

Fogily remember a European player say no max rake at all levels.
Oregon has 5$ for a seat no rake, cant use chips to buy anything. Dealers volunteer, so u better tip, tipping dealers in chips allowed.
Oregon poker rooms almost always have a bomb pot button rotating other direction, one time had two ;)

Thanks for having me on Jungle! Been a big fan of yours for many years.
Awesome job!
Thanks for sharing with us Bart. 😊
You def should have had a live caller with a 2/5 hand and the both of you could have given your thoughts !
Nice Bart 👍🤩😃
What room in vegas do you think has the best plo action?
Bart is definitely the best coach for low to mid stakes live poker. Learned so much from the guy over the years.
Gotta get through a lot of Bart before you get to Squish
Thanks for the podcast! Dan, you need a proper microphone. There's a big difference between your audio and Bart's.
Yes but one of them does it professionally and the other one is famous.
ITS COMING
Bart explaining the mental stress of swinging $40k-$50k at 10/20 . . . Dan: "That's fine. If you don't want to move up, don't move up" 🤣
Life is relative...Einstein proved it...
That's not even a swing 😂
Green screen is roasting my eyes. I'll follow this on audio only because this two guys are GOATs.

Bart is an amazing coach ,i like also the calmness and the accent in his voice ,you can understand easily what he talking about!
Dans head exploded when he heard about California drops.
Yeah fk that drop, I literally drive to vegas just to get away from that shit drop
But California Poker is different... (talking Bay Area) there are many, many live gamblers... These pots get big enough to beat the rake
@@darylmixan8170 I beat a $9 drop at 1-3 at a 11.62 BB per hour. It’s definitely doable. Tighten range and play BIG pots.
One of the better pods that Jungle has done. Great stuff
I think it was the guest that made the difference
My brother I am begging you to get a consulting session with a sound engineer
His microphone sounds like a tin can
It can be improved, but this guy is a pro poker player not a pro podcaster..give him a break.. thank you for the learning opportunity
Finally, after too many weak pods, a quality episode from Dan. Bart is the man.✊🏼
Bart + Tuchman's commentary on the early LATB streams is possibly the most underrated poker content. Great guest! A true legend.

Very interesting chat on high stakes play in China

I've played in parx. It's one of the best poker rooms I've played in. They bluff a lot there.
1-3 , 2-5 in tunica ms, they pull 7$ 2 for jackpot it's massive buy in for 1-3 is 300 max 2-5 is 1k. almost always a straddle on the button.
same in florida
The fact that jungleman doesn’t know about the drop cracks me up! I dream of being at a level that the cost of the game is irrelevant…
Thanks Dan and Bart 😊
