      Hi! Thank you for the comment. In practice, there is no need to travel between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto by Shinkansen. This is because it is possible to travel cheaply and comfortably on the Keihan, Hankyu and JR trains. However, many foreign visitors often purchase a Japan Rail Pass, which allows them to take the Shinkansen at no extra cost, so they should feel free to use it even for short distances such as between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto.ツ

    Hello! First of all, thank you for making a clear, informative, and useful guide to Shinkansens! Just a quick question tho, Nozomi is in my bucket list but it is not included in JR Pass. I have a tight schedule and want to see as much of Kyoto for a day and I'm afraid that if I miss Hikari train from Tokyo station to Kyoto station, I will wait longer as compared to taking Nozomi trains. I'm afraid that if there will be significant delays, I might miss seeing Arashiyama Grove. Is it worth it to spend more with Nozomi or taking Hikari is okay with tight schedule? Thank you so much and more power to you! 😊

    • @Shiba-Shiba_TrainsInJapan
      @Shiba-Shiba_TrainsInJapan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your comment.
      A major feature that cannot be overlooked when discussing the Shinkansen is the accuracy of the timetable: according to JR Tokai's Annual Report 2020, there are 378 trains per day and 458,000 passengers are carried. Shinkansen trains departing from Tokyo Station are on average 3:30 minutes apart, which is unparalleled for a high-speed railway, to the surprise of many foreign travellers. Furthermore, despite the overcrowded timetable, the average delay per train in operation is only 0.2 minutes. This includes delays caused by natural disasters such as heavy rain and heavy snowfall, and the trains boast an astonishing on-time operation rate of 'zero' delays in normal operations. So do not worry about delays and get on Hikari. If by any chance there is a delay, it will be a valuable experience.

I saw a video from TH-cam, the video said if i make a reservation for the oversize luggages, I have to buy reserved seat, not non reserved seat. Is it correct? Do you know how much the ticket for the reserved seat? Also there are a few lines of Shinkansen. If I take the one from Osaka to Kyoto, what is the name of Shinkansen? Tokaido, Sanyo or Kyushu. I am getting confuse on Shinkansen.

    • @Shiba-Shiba_TrainsInJapan
      @Shiba-Shiba_TrainsInJapan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes. It is necessary to make a reservation for oversized luggages since there are no space for oversized luggage in non-reserved cars.
      The price of the ticket for the reserved seat from Shin-osaka to Kyoto,
      NOZOMI ... 2,670 JPY
      HIKARI or KODAMA ... 2460 JPY
      NOZOMI is the fastest Shinkansen, so it is a little more expensive. However, as there are no intermidiate stations between Shin-osaka and Kyoto, it will be good to take HIKARI or KODAMA. In addition, HIKARI and KODAMA are not as crowded as NOZIMI.

I found a pricing from the website. It listed out $1,440 for non reserved seat and $2,870 for reserved seat from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto. Why did I get the different price on the website? Is the ticket price based on what day and what time I take Shinkansen? Can I buy Shinkansen ticket at Kansai Airport? I am sure Kansai airport has JR ticket counter. @@Shiba-Shiba_TrainsInJapan
