I'm an old man now, but been a huge fan of Frank's since his beginning. I saw him the same year as this, same set list, etc. It was at a dive in Milwaukee, Wi, USA called The Palms, an old movie theater turned rock club. They even had quadriphonic swirling sound in the place. I'll never forget it.
Did you catch the Alpine Valley show? The cleanest stage production I've ever seen. No cables anywhere visible. It had to be around the time Scorps played there. '78?
I'm 63. Saw this man when I was 15. I've seen hundreds of shows. Frank Marino is the one show I have never forgotten. Hearing "Electric Reflections of War" is a moment in time I will cherish forever. 48 years later I'm still asking myself, how the fuck did he do that with a guitar? Still amazed! Marino forever!
I could postulate at some theories why, but it’s hard to grasp why Frank Marinos’s name isn’t immediately mentioned right along with all the other great full tilt guitar players of the past 50 years. He is one of those guys who could play exactly what was in his head. Like a stream of consciousness. Like Hendrix.
My theory is Marino like Hendrix was so talented he threatened most guitarist. Hendrix left a void and Marino was more than capable at filling that musical void. Remember Hendrix gained fame in England first then conquered America. The powers that be were not about to let a Canadian guitarist conquer America. And Marino was that good. Just a thought
@@dmcpopo4027 Yep, all good points. He definitely got unfairly caught in the “Hendrix comparison” whirlwind of the 70’s and as you said, was too much of a threat and wasn’t given his fair chance. He had to battle some really bad music industry fads of the time.
@@AudioAtmos Cobo hall in Detroit 1977, Mothers Finest, Kansas, and Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. $7.00. Sold out, best rock concert I’ve ever been to. Multiple encores, standing O for FM&MR. What a night.
The guitar gods themselves will always mention Frank. Those of us that know any better, regardless if we can play or not, recognize Frank. I'm one that falls in that can't play a lick category, but I saw Frank in 1978, opening for of all bands Styx, and was hooked. Immediately went out and got "Live", "IV", and "World Anthem". Frank was a mindblow and thats how he was acknowledged later recognition was past time alloted and out of print but those who knew about him were enlightened equivalent to the second coming all in all time was never passed and we only dream what he lived😢

@@TimmBieryMusic Timm I watched you play with Frank at a bar in Brampton Ontario called hot rocks in the summer of 86 for the full circle album. Claudio, Vince and Pete Dowse were also in the band. He didn't write hit type material, but the playing - whew!
A big reason he never broke in a big way was his disdain for the music industry. He just refused to compromise.

IDK how the drummer keeps that together...poor Vince, he's got a sore neck after every gig.
I'd be terrified to play Finlandia. They could start pelting you with chocolates at anytime! Don't even get them started with the balls of wool....
