Hay season saw it's share of repairs this year. At least they didn't come when I was doing square bales. Those are much more important than the rounds.
The really bad thing about a claw hammer in a non construction environment is that they are hard and may release metal fragments. Really should be using a ball peen hammer.
Had this happen on a hillside when was raking hat. About 3 weeks ago by now. Bit of a pain to do put new bearings in. Up and running again the next day.
Think about a come-a-long between the frame and outer end of axle kingpin. I've also used the loader arm to lift a wheel on the wide front axle before.
Never hurts to jack those up once a year and grab the tire at the top and bottom and rock them up and down, see how much play is in the bearings, and if need be, pull the cap and cotter pin and snug the nut up a bit. Sure beats that sort of repair. Good thing you were going slow and the spindle just dropped in the mud, going faster you could have busted the entire axle or bolster... heard of guys doing that! It's static compression. And with a larg enough contact with the wood, the pressure is spread out. I'm sure the wood compresses some, but small enough you can't see.

First Chris has the front right combine wheel fall off(video came out yesterda) and now your front right tire falls off. Do you cordinate or somethig?😂 I've had front tire come off the loader tractor a few times and it happens very fast. Front loaders are great jacks. It happens.
That poor 1086. I've seen them in the junkyard in better shape. Nice young man, seems like he's trying, but they sure don't take care of equipment or get much done on time.
You're not a Boehm farm fan. Watch more videos, you'll see. 1086 is a trusty tractor. Maybe a little rough around the edges, but your wife will get fat and saggy, but I'm sure you'll stick with her despite the new models available.
Hi Boehm farm . Is that hayfield clay-ground ? I a farmer in north west germany .we have here almost clay-ground. In the Fall and Winter wet and muddy . In spring time good and In summer as hard as concrete . Greetings from Bert !!!

Them socks though. Our 886 hasnt had wheel bearing issue, guess a guy should check make sure they roll smooth before winter sets in. I dont want to do wheel bearings in -40. Side note, john deere mechanic taught me a trick to easily get races and wear rings out. Take our your mig welder, put a little thin bead around on the inside of the race and when the weld cools and shrinks it will fall right out almost.
Hub races are easy since you can get to either side to drive them out.. but I used the trick you speak of on the inner pinion bearing race on a 1066 last year. No way to get to those to drive them. Ran a bead around it and it literally did fall out about 60 seconds later.

@@boehmfarm4276 Checkin' up on you LOL:) I had a girlfriend when I was row cropping who'd just show up at the house because she had nothing better to do, which was fine by me, BUT if I was working, I was working- can't drop everything to mollify the girlfriend... She came over one day when we were hip deep in replacing a sun gear in a cotton picker row unit... which is in about dead center of about 1000 other parts, inside a gear case almost a foot tall and about a weird trapezoidal shape the size of a coffee table or bigger, which is filled with cast-off grease from 40 years of greasing the thing EVERY DAY before you go to the field... It was about 102 in the shade that day and we were working inside that gear case, SO greasy it looked like we just stuck our arms in up to our elbows in a five gallon bucket of grease... can't sweat through grease so we could work about five minutes before overheating to the point we were about to collapse, and we had to stop and retreat back under the carport in front of the big shop fan which was just whipping around hot air, and catch our breath and cool down for a few minutes... Of course she showed up and sat around awhile watching us and realizing I wasn't stopping to "entertain her" she finally just went home. That was the end of that-- oh well. Some girls can understand farmers, some can't. When my nephew's then girlfriend was kinda whining about him not spending any time with her during harvest season, I just told her straight out, "You date or marry a farmer, you just have to get used to being a planting season widow, harvest season widow, and since these boys hunt with their Dad, a deer season widow... IOW, you gotta be okay with being on your own when they're busy working, because the work can't wait! Which ain't necessarily a bad thing-- you get some "you time" or time to hang out with your girlfriends, MIL, whatever and do stuff *he* wouldn't usually want to do with you... OR you can choose to "ride along with him" as much as possible, find something to do to be useful or just ride along even if you're bored or uncomfortable, so you can be with him while he works. Just how it is, and you have ot figure out how to handle that yourself if you want your relationship to work! Course, the flipside of that is, he's gotta do some extra time spent with her, things she wants to do, etc. when he's NOT in the field hip deep in work, or sitting in the deer stand... If you replaced 1 spindle, you should have just done both with new bearings and races. Probably wouldn't have happened broke off and youd be bailing hay.

Stuff doesn't last forever ya know no matter what you do. Stuff breaks eventually and has to get fixed! OL J R :)
@@mattstarr8203 Yep... and "assembled in the USA doesn't mean they don't ship in pallet loads of races and rollers from China and slap them together here with "made in the USA" on the box... BUT so far Timken's have been better quality bearings than most other stuff out there. OL J R :)

You can never be too thin, too rich, or have too many blocks of wood!! 😜
It always amazes me that, seemingly, no matter how heavy the load, blocks of wood are able to carry the load.
It's static compression. And with a larg enough contact with the wood, the pressure is spread out. I'm sure the wood compresses some, but small enough you can't see.

I got lucky, because I think the bearing was gone when I left home and I didn't notice it.

It's heavy clay, great for bricks. But it's wet in the spring, and wet anytime it rains or a ya pee on it.

Different failures. This was wheel bearings, the other was weakened spindle that broke.
