- Silent Hill f is a completely new story set in 1960's Japan. Get a brief look at the game's beautiful, yet horrifying world in this mysterious announcement trailer. Developed by Neobards Entertainment, Silent Hill f is written by Ryukishi07, known for Japanese visual novels dealing with murder mysteries, psychological, and supernatural horror. The upcoming game is produced by Motoi Okamoto and its creature and character designer is kera.

Aside from the fact that they're growing out of human-limbs-turned-into-sponges, the blooming of the red spider lilies gave me chills. Beautifully animated, and red spider lilies (higanbana) have a cultural association with the underworld or afterlife...

I'd disagree and say that would be the whole point. Horror is usually playing with what you know sets off the mind from creepy music (and sound, suspense building audio, like the Jaws theme when it was first out), to commonly disturbing visuals (human-esque figures, insects and spiders, death or disfigurement, etc).

No it doesn't. Remaking a game from 20+ years ago is not chasing the past, it's finally being able to do what they couldn't do back then. This is not even set in Silent Hill and it doesn't have the classic atmospheres of Silent Hill. Silent Hill 2 remake is objectively the best announcement. Stop being edgy because it's pathetic.

@@FuzzyDlop Sorry, what "couldn't they do" back then that they're able to now? SH2's visuals, gameplay, and story are absolutely timeless. It was a perfect storm that came out just right, and any attempts at "improving" it (like the supposedly "fixed" voice acting in the HD Collection, and the 3rd person view they seem to be going for in the remake rather than fixed camera perspective which takes away from the atmosphere and makes it seem like a generic 3rd person shooter) are inevitably gonna take away at least some of qualities that made it so great in the first place.
The only thing edgy and pathetic here is you using "objectively" wrong while on a high horse about a video game.
When the SH1 theme plays at the end of this trailer... absolute goosebumps. Love that theme to death.

You gotta admit, you probably were more expecting Junji Ito to work with Silent Hill moreso than the When they Cry maker. Either way, a japanese psychological horror game with this kind of aesthetic is more than welcome. Don't let us down now, Ryu.

And yet the music, sound design, and general subject matter left me feeling completely neutral.

It's about an Island that's rumoured to have an elixir of life. A group of people were sent to retrieve the elixir but mysteriously they came back with flowers and plants growing out of their body. Later a group of death row convicts were sent to uncover the mystery of the island and retrieve the elixir in exchange for a chance of pardon.

The boat and flowers scene reminds me of Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku. That manga was freaking amazing and even though I've fallen out of love with anime, I'll always recommend that one as its being animated by MAPPA.

Yeah. Being a Japanese setting kinda make the title of the actual town, Silent Hill, pointless because you cannot have that the same name in Japanese.
Remember how Silent Hill 3 started? Was in Portland first as The Cultist; Claudia started painting those rituals to summon the Fog and Nightmare Realm to lure Heather into. The extent of Silent Hill bacons those at it's will but can be channeled by those that follow it's religion.

Curious to see how they're going to have a Silent Hill story set outside of Silent Hill, or apart from any characters connected to the original problems of Silent Hill, and still have it make sense. One of the biggest problems of the writing in later Silent Hill stories, is that they completely misunderstood the work of Team Silent, this being especially evident in Downpour. We don't want a repeat of those failures.

Well, with Downpour and Homecoming the thing was made with "Rule of Cool" in mind, monsters didn't actually have anything to say about the characters or the story, this seems to be pretty different, but also has this Japanese classic horror vibes.

Having just barely discovered the existence of Higurashi a few weeks ago and not at all being ready for it, the writing for this has me excited also as a long time SH fan. Finally...
