At my local Walmart, name brand concentrate cost $1.03 more than the 50/50. It just makes sense to buy the concentrate and make your own 50/50. You get two gallons for the price of one.
I flushed my 06 Tahoe 5.3 out a few weeks ago. It took about 20 gallons of distilled water to thoroughly clean everything out. I then replaced the plastic "T's" and hose quick connects at the heater core with Genuine GM parts. I replaced the plastic "T" by the water pump with an aluminum one (not Dorman), and replaced every single coolant hose with ACDelco hoses (including the little throttle body ones) and replaced the thermostat with Genuine GM. I then filled the system using about 10 gallons of Prestone Platinum Universal Longlife premixed (did not want to use DexCool aka DexKill in my vehicle), coolant (making sure all distilled was flushed out). The Prestone is rated at 15 years, 350k miles, but I'd change it again long before that. DexCool CAN go bad if left in the system too long. It can crystallize and harden, blocking passageways in the heads, engine and cooling system, thus my dislike for it. Hopefully I'm through with that tedious task for a long while. I couldn't find aluminum fittings nor "T's" (with rear heat) for the heater core area, thus I just used GM replacement parts.
Best to do a yearly coolant service or at least every two years. I do it every 2 years on my truck, but on my wife's 2020 Toyota Camry its yearly because of the complexity of that car and how its system works. That is just me I like to take well care of my vehicles.
Matt have question doesn't coolant stay in motor if u drain radiator so it put pure antifreeze wouldn't it mix with coolant that is prob watered down alredy
1. There is a hose that has a plastic y in it. I believe it goes to water pump, coolant rez, heater core. Always leaks at plastic y fitting. 2. Coolant rez crack in the bottom. 3. Weep hole bottom of water pump.

Yup, exactly. You can literally buy a bucket to mix it in too for cheaper 🤣😂
I just got the pre-mixed. It was actually cheaper than the 50/50 at advance.
I will mixing the way Matt taught me now. Thanks again Matt. Laterrrrrrr
You got it! Laterrrr!
One pointer to save your engine, Replace plastic connectors in the engine compartment to your heater core.
They sell upgraded metal connections.
I have a video on this soon
Yep I replaced my plastic ones with the metal Dorman fittings..Had to do an emergency bypass to get home when one busted.
Stainless steel ones to be exact
@@DRDROP-fj4bo Hahaha I had a similar experience...
What about the T’s for Suburbans/Tahoes either rear heat?
I use the Prestone universal coolant in everything, I have Chevy's, Fords, Mopars, Toyota's, Honda, Saab's, use the same coolant in all of them
The green or the orange???
@@MattsShop I use the green in everything

I use and do the same thing Matt..05 LLY Duramax..388,600 miles. Zero leaks, zero issues. I drain and replace coolant every year..cheap insurance
Ur knowledge has helped me so much thanks you MAtt u the Man
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help.

Mix the concentrate with distilled 50/50 here in Texas.
Yes sirrrr the best mix!
After a couple heat Cool heat cool cycles it does become acidic... It's always smart to change it every 80k
Hey Matt do you think you need to fully flush the coolant? I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado it’s never been flushed and it has 105000 what do you think?
More boat outboard motor videos
Ok 👍

Yea, but then you don't know if it's mixed 50/50
Is it normal for a transmission not to get over 150 degrees in the winter I would say it looks like it's at 130/140
The 4.3 seems to get a rusty system... I think all 2nd gen sbc had that issue but I'm pretty sure the 4-3 was the one to do it
On my new to me 2500HD its been disappearing lately, had it run hot. Any ideas where the common leak spots are? Doesn't show any signs of leakage
Heater hose connections. They ALWAYS leak. Tons of videos on this soon.

@@DRDROP-fj4bo Thanks I'll be sure to check those out.
Check the intake gasket under truck to see if shows signs of leakage
Check water pump weep hole
Most shops use water from their sink or hose.. They aren't using distilled water in their mix.
Yup, never do that lol.
Anitreze. Is. Antreze
I just pour in full strength do to the fact I don't know how much water is in it already
LOL why???
I don't call it dex cool , I call it death cool
Haha why is that?
