  • We’ve been talking about doing this for years and finally the day has come! Chase and I, along with our friends Dario and Dan head out and try our hand at our first OTC Archery Elk hunt in Colorado. Hiking with bows pretty much sums of the two week hunt. We put on the miles but couldn’t seem to connect. Regardless, it was an amazing experience, and we got to learn a ton. This definitely won’t be the last. Till next time Colorado. #backpacking #backcountry #elkhunting #hiking #backpackingfood #camping #dehydratedfood #backcountrycamping #backcountryhunting #bugle #elk #mountains

Altitude training is a mother! If ya want to hike at elevation in the fall, then train by running at sea level in the summer. It still sucks, but recovery time gets way shorter. For me, out west is about the adventure. If its the same for you all, what a great hunt!🍻

Thanks. We live at about 1100 feet here in Thunder Bay. We plan on training and coming back stronger for next year!
It was definitely a great adventure and learning opportunity :)

Do it, I dare you! 😁 I live at 900 ft in Wisconsin and train all summer in the heat and humidity with a pack on. All to chase Antilope at about 5400 feet in Wyoming come September. "Elk shape" is a real thing(even for Antilope!) Good luck, embrace the suck, it makes us good humans and better hunters. God bless.

Being from Minnesota/Wisconsin the best thing I've found you can do is learn how to breathe like a swimmer...... You need to learn how to use the most oxygen per breath as possible. All the hiking or training means nothing at 11k . Haha.....

@thistledewoutdoors3331 isn’t that the truth. It took about 4-5 days to feel somewhat normal. We’ll have to work on our breath work for next time!

You guys were an absolute blast to watch. I hunt the same region and there are elk there. The numbers in the whole state are down and it's a grind wherever you go. Don't leave elk to find elk. You did well. My advice is to ruck all year and ruck heavy!!! Get your legs under you and show up early to get acclimated and scout. I got tired of drinking out of beaver ponds and packed in bottled water days before season opened last year. So much more refreshing and helped get conditioned to the altitude days before the hunt. This was my 22nd trip out there and it's where I'm at today. Everyone has there own way of doing things so to each their own. Good luck next year and God bless!

In Australia we know what you scooped out of the water with the hat is a salamander.

One thingis for sure - Moo Cows definitely does not hurt an elk hunt !!!! Elk and cows/sheep are always around eachother, theyre herd animals and thats a safety thing.....
You guys could've bought a few cans of oxygen if you're not a frequent visitor of high altitude.....

I've been waiting for this video! What an awesome hunt. You folks did it up right. I was impressed at how positive you were both able to stay - with altitude issues, the physical demands of all that hiking, and not seeing your quarry.
I had faith that you'd get one, but there's just no guarantees. Next year for sure! The bright side? You've got a full year before having to drink poopy water again! 🤮 😂 Great vid. Thanks!

It would of been nice to of been one of the 10% of ppl that get to notch there OTC tag but we’ll take what we learned and then some to the grind next season. :)

I'm surprised you started talking about leaving the area when you heard multiple bulls across the valley..... Definitely would rip bugles off at night in their direction to locate & then figure out how to come in from the side on their level..... Its not called elk hunting - its Elk Hiking.. ha
