    Both are big hitters from two of the cycling world's biggest brands and both go about their business in very different ways.

      I just purchased the enduro expert in matt black but im not sure if i must take a large or xlarge im 1.83m and want my handle bar as close as i can to my fork.

    It is wild how the Specialized Enduro is still a benchmark after nearly 4 years. They were really ahead of their times. Absolutely love mine in the Canadian Rockies.

      I swapped to the stumpy evo because of my riding, but damn that Enduro had me confident at speeds I didn't think possible!

    So much bike for the money.

    got 2022 carbon slash top end bike. Love every ounce of it. It just flies. Best bike i did enduro on. My only minus with Slash is the price. They majestic bikes, but come at a decent cost. Some of it for the brand and looks. But holly shit is it eyecatchy. Cant count how many times people stopped and asked what that bike is and about the price. Lots of compliments etc. I got mine at about 7500 dollar on sale. Had really alot of thoughts of buying or not, but then decided we live once. Got it and never looked back since. An absolute savage of a bike. I dont like new frame design as much as the 2022-23 versions though. The previous ones look like lamborghini of bikes.

    I got the specialized enduro ltd 2022, and never looked back. Came from a yeti sb 5.5. But the yetis models just didnt fit right. I held off for a few years when coovid hit and that gave me time to demo alot of brands. But the enduro made it clear it was a well rounded daily driver that fit me just right. I noticed the new yetis basically have the exact same geometry now as the enduro. I laughed at that. When its 2024.. enduro is still a short list bike and ither prominent manufacturers are switching toward your geometry... youve done some thing special.

    I keep thinking bike designs have somewhat plateaued and this just reinforces it based on this comparison. The enduro is still such a great looking and performing bike

      You still get innovation, the Norco Range for example and the gearbox bikes coming through now

    The issue with Trek Slash is that the high-pivot design adds a lot more complexity and the benefit is not enough to really offset the added complexity (which is questionable at best). There are more parts that can go wrong and more maintenance especially when hitting the downhill hard.

      @@harrie205 Dude, I think you are the one buying into the marketing "bullshit" fabricated by bike companies to sell you more unnecessary complexity.
      An extra pulley (i.e. cog with bearing and extra frame material and change to support the pulley) and a lower chain guide (essentially an arm with a pulley and a bearing) are a lot of complexity added for a questionable perceived benefit, i.e. reduced pedal kickback, at the cost of complexity in parts, setup and failure points.
      It is also questionable whether pedal kickbacks actually affect athlete's performance meaningfully, given derailleur should absorb most of the forces applied by pedal kickback.
      In fact, high pivot bikes with extra idlers are way underrepresented in the top spots in the current UCI downhill and enduro racing.

      @@jookyuh your definition of a lot (which is always relative and has to be based in our case on the whole Bike as a System) seems a little of. No part added to a high pivot is hard do design=> so the hp bikes are usually reliable.
      The benefits are not questionable, the reduction in resistance going through ruff terrain is noticeable, measurable and also explainable.
      Pedal kick back is a different topic the idlers purpose is to provide the needed chain length and to adjust Antisquat(which would be way to high in high pivot bikes) its basically a way to tune AS almost independent from the rear suspension kinematics.(sometimes idlers get used without high pivots (look at the 2024 Mondraker DH prototype))
      In racing there is a rising number of High pivots (more in DH then in Enduro) also they don’t race the fastest bikes possible but they ride what they get from there teams and for them racing is a tool to sell products. And to sell products you have to take in account what bike media has for years told the potential customers and to educate them is hard/ not selling.

      @@harrie205 Let's cut the BS. "A lot" is definitely a relative term, but any added complexity or cost ($) that does not produce measurable real benefit would qualify as more than necessary (benefit vs. cost). Also, fundamentally, having more parts would create more points of failure, hence the saying in engineering "the best part is to have no part and the less parts the better" to do the same job.
      The primary design goal of the high pivot system is to reduce pedal kickback. You can address anti-squat and anti-rise with linkage designs that are already out there, FSR, VPP, etc. The question is whether pedal kickback is a performance degrading problem for riders or not. Given a 70 ~ 90kg rider who is standing on two pedals, I doubt the pedal kickback will have any performance degrading effect on the rider -- especially when the lengthening of the chain during suspension travel will be absorbed by spring in the derailleur.
      It is not like the high pivot design is a new idea, and many bike manufacturer have experimented with it in the past, i.e. it has been around for a while. If a high pivot design had such noticeable benefits, you would see a lot more manufacturers adopting the design so they can win races and sell more bikes. If they made much difference, you should be able to see high-pivot bikes overrepresented in the top positions in the rankings -- which is not the case.
      As you yourself rightly pointed out that it is a way for the brands to sell their bikes (i.e. marketing to sell you more bikes).

      2) complexity is often misunderstood. As an engineer I can tell you adding components like idlers which are non problematic to gain some suspension performance is often viewed as favourable. The whole complexity is bad argument has to take the change in performance into account(most modern stuff is far more complicated then old stuff and also better(a modern car is a far better product then a 50year old one(for daily use)) also the reliability and the understanding for the added complexity is important adding many things we understand and can control is far less of a problem then adding unknown stuff(and we understand idlers and bearings pretty well)
      2)pedal kick back is not the reason we build Hp bikes(You can eliminate upper chain growth with an idler you don’t need to elevate the main pivot)
      3) nobody said hp are new. The underlying principle is much older than mountain biking
      4)yes’s since the new hp boom they are increasingly winning (compare the high pivot wins now with the ones 10 years ago)
      Bottom line is that reduced forward axle path (that’s what we build hp bikes for) is beneficial in rough terrain(higher obstacles and higher speed are favourable this advantages) z there are different ways to achieve those characteristics (but usually to a lower level extend) which is done with some 6 link bikes(like the new ransom or the specialized DH prototype).
      Take into account that hp is not without drawbacks which are loosely correlated to the height of the pivot (which also loosely correlates to the hp advantages). Better riders can jump over large obstacles(which is faster then going through them) but intermediate o riders will often loose less speed in rough section with high pivot bikes.
      Now you know a little bit more how high pivot bikes work so you can try one if it suits your riding style and terrain
      Ps the problem of changing AS via linkage design is that you have large correlation in usual suspension designs between suspension parameters as: anti squat , anti rise, axle path, leverage ratio…. So if you change one the other will change also so it’s hard to get a good compromise. Solutions are more links(the 6 bar is coming because it can tune suspension characteristics better independent from each other then a 4 bar) or solutions like idlers or floating brakes which allow you to chose a suspension with no regards to Antisquat/anti rise and the get the value you want with the added parts(idler/flotingbrake).

    Seems like the trek just has the wrong shock tune which should be a relatively easy fix. Would be interesting to try a a lighter tune or a coil and see how it fares

    I own both these bikes and I like the Slash slightly better. But it's a game of inches. These are both fun bikes and I'd ride either one down A-Line.

    Would have been nice that they would have tested Enduro also as a mullet setup and see how it corners then. I have Enduro but never tried mullet setup. Yet.

      the thing is mulleting a stock enduro won´t really work. I mean it would but the geo would be absolutely f*cked. You could however fit a aftermarket longer eye to eye shock or longer yoke

    I Have The Enduro Since June 2020. I Put Real Brakes On It (MT 7 200/200), Zeb Ultimate 180mm And Cane Creek Kitsuma Coil
    I Love My Bike, It Was For A Game Changer For Me. I Just Don't Know What Could I More Expect From An Enduro MTB.
    Maybe The Possibility To Try A 27" Mixed Wheels And See If He Becomes More Playful Without Decreasing The Stability
    My Only Issues Is The Gummy Traverse Roval Wheels 😅

    The Gen 5 slash is better than both. Trek did a mistake by making a gen 6 slash High pivot and mullet is just a personal preference.

      Thanks Will, I was thinking about buying an S3 enduro but I don't know if I should go for the S4. Where I live the roads are very steep and rocky. and I don't like jumping a lot. I'm 174 with tennis. Great review. Aldo i buy a madison jeje

    All budgets? There’s only two 2023 models for the Enduro and neither is cheap! The slash is also too expensive for what it is, why would I spend that kind of money on the top carbon version when there are fully fitted/customisable builds like the Atherton bikes for the same price bracket?
