  • In this video I demonstrate how quick, easy, and fun it is to create your own samples in Koala Sampler. I play a few chord progressions, autochop them, and then use my new @birdkids MIDI Controller to perform them.

    Nice video! I’ve been trying to use chords as well and find it works pretty well. My issue with Koala is I always get royally confused when it comes to recording sequences. I’m going to stay tuned to you.

    Hi KhordMaster! This is a workflow that more or less I also follow. Instead of piano or E.Piano sound sometimes I use my Guitar playing chords and chord progressions. The variable I use sometimes is that I do not have to chop because I record just one chord per Koala pad. after that I create a nice beat with some drum within Koala, then I put a chord progression of my guitar using the pads. I could do it live but i need the repetitive cycle of the chords so that I can make some trials of entering a melody while jamming. The jam passes through a Zoom H1N using the overdub function, so I keep the result and if something is interesting I can reproduce it later within Koala or within Zoom or even within a DAW

    • @Khordmaster
      @Khordmaster  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is dope.. how do you get your drums? Do you have like a template made and create from there and do a save as?

    • @kyriakosxanthopoulos3468
      @kyriakosxanthopoulos3468 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Khordmaster Oh I have followed many different ways. Other times I choose the drums one by one from sample libraries. Other times I have a previous song and I start a new one with the same drums, and then i delete all unwanted ones - of course using Save as for the new project. Once I recorded from an old arranger keyboard some drums on a row (a single file per kit) with my Zoom and then I copped the file within Koala (just the way you do it in this video). One other time I recorded the music of the game Outrun from a handheld console and I did various chops when an 'instrument" played an isolated note so I had a nice 8bit Hihat and I nice LoFi bass... Countless ways. koala is powerful. And maybe it is how you mention in the video: people keep asking for various addons and features that MAYBE already exist if you are a bit creative and think of "workarounds", which if they are finally fulfilled in a newer Version, they may "ruin" the present genuine user experience of Koala...and we dont want that, for sure.

    Being a keyboard player myself, I must wholeheartedly agree with you @Khordmaster
    on how it makes you play or view music in a certain way, (koala) and it makes it just 'Fun'.
    I can see how folks who haven't yet developed their own keyboard/piano playing skills would think,
    "Why don't y'all just PLAY the darned parts??"
    But it's interesting to get a different aspect and keep yourself interested, and the music "fresh"
    I even sometimes will sample different style chords (say, Em7 , Am7, Cadd9 or what ever) from a synth, just to have the option to play them as the pads do in 'one shot ' , or 'loop' of which ever )
    anyways, sorry for the short story and im subbed , i learned a few new things too!

    I use my mpc studio controller as a midi controller for my iPad on koala sampler with an usbc to usb adapter. If you go to settings and you midi map you’ll be able to match the pads to your midi controller. Only trying thing is you can do it bank to bank…..that’s my workaround to using a controller with my iPad and koala sampler. I hope what I’m saying makes sense.

    Great video. the recent split stems function update on koala let's you pull drums from any track, not sure if you already saw it. I dig the tiny midi controller. I've been using novation launchpad x, which gives you 64 pads that map perfectly to the 4 pages of koala samples. it's a bit bigger, but works great with Koala. have you figured out how to record a sample with effects on to a new sample?

    • @Khordmaster
      @Khordmaster  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! And yep the resampling feature lets you do that. Shall I record a tutorial on that?

    • @mishagolynskiy9962
      @mishagolynskiy9962 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Khordmaster spent an hour to figure out that I could change incoming source to record from samples and leave it to record while I apply different effects... so I think I sorted it out. Having said that, I dig your vidz, so I say yes 😊👍. highlight stem splitter and resampling the 16effects? sooo strong!!! cutter/gate/stutter on drums to give new permutations??? 🔥 🔥 🔥 I generally dabble more on breaks and dnb, so grabbing drums from a slower track and repitching + stretch has been amazing discovery 😊

    for that same reason, the pads midi info being all over the place, basically they not going in order when you playing it with some other midi controller which in my case the problem im having with koala is using it as auv3 with nanostudio 2, cubasis 3 or any other ios daw in which also koala pads midi cc information are not map correctly to the daw screen keyboards , and that problem started on the last 3 update because before that i wasn’t having that problem when using it as auv3 and that really is a big problem because it stops me from playing the chops fluently which makes it hard for creating anything because it takes me out of the zone, hopefully that gets fix very soon !!
    i even wrote to the developer about it!

    • @Khordmaster
      @Khordmaster  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed bro! I’m more likely to just use on screen pads because they’re always accurate lol. Marek is always working on the app so I suspect this will get fixed 👌🏾

I usually separate my piano playing from music production but I’ve been experimenting with exactly what you’re saying except in korg gadget. Im gonna try out garage band for recording piano pieces in directly and see what comes from that. Thanks!
