While Shore finds Fleet Foxes stumbling on a few risks, the album mostly serves to streamline the band's sound and remind us what made them so special in the first place.

"Grown Ocean", "On Another Ocean" - these are the precursors to "Shore" (as metaphor). You must be at the bottom of the sea if you cant appreciate the 'way point' of this album. "Crack Up" was over-burdened with angst, a brooding sea with jagged rocks, but it did offer glimmers of beauty through the chaos and these glimmers were "Shore" coming into view on the horizon...Another masterpiece in the Fleet Foxes canon, & Robin 10/10

The beginning of this record is great, and Maestranza is nice, but for me it was a real struggle getting through this one. Lots of duds throughout. Not a FF record that will produce much of any call backs in a concert setting. I could see diehards giving this an occasional listen in the future, but Helplessness Blues is still king. Strong 5 on this one.

While this isn't my favorite Fleet Foxes album, "For a Week or Two" is easily one of my new favorite songs by the band. The vocal harmony is so damn hypnotic & emotional!

      H. S. Sapien yeah i missed the train with the self titled considering i was born in 2002 and i only heard helplessness when i was 13, so i had no connection with the self titled at all. it sounds to me like very well done folk but with none of the nuance of the later albums, but i know a large percentage of FF fans have a super strong emotional tether to the album so i think my ratings are a relatively warm take
