  • Swiss Alps or Dolomites. Which is Best? It's the BERNER OBERLAND region in Switzerland versus the DOLOMITES or North Eastern Italy. Which of these two popular mountain destinations is the best for a family vacation? I evaluate both places based on Accessibility, Language, Food, Activities, Affordability, and Scenery (Natural Beauty). Which comes out on top?

A very thoughtful review. I'm originally Swiss and was a mountain guide in my youth, lived in both areas for some years and speak both languages. I agree with you on all counts - and yes Dolomiti not like anything anywhere else - particularly beautiful to ski through, a moving panoroma.

In the Dolomites, the native languages are actually German (Western and Northern Dolomites), Ladin (Central Dolomites), and Italian (Southern and Eastern Dolomites). The food is a mix of Tyrolian (similar to Austrian/Bavarian), Ladin, and Italian. Few places in the Alps (if any) offer so much cultural and linguistic variety.

Awesome video. Dolomites are a favorite among Landscape Photographers for their photogenic mountains. Just like you said about food, there is no comparison when it comes to landscape photography.

Well done! I'll probably never make it to either, but I love the breakdown! I have always wanted to go to Switzerland.

Congratulations, great video and great pictures! I live in a big Italian alpine valley and I love to point out that "Italian Alps" doesn't just mean Dolomites! There are the Occitan valleys of Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, the mountains of Monte Rosa, Valtellina, the Bergamasche Alps, the Adamello Alps, the Julian Alps, etc... I can assure you that they are all fantastic places, perhaps less "touristy", but very authentic! Worth a try! greetings from Italy

@@bradball Hi Brad! Italian here, this is my secret spot in Italy, it's a natural paradise and an unknown gem.....but don't tell around too much 😉......or peace will disappear and prices will rise. Here everything costs a quarter compared to neighboring Switzerland and half compared to the Dolomites. Just think that the daily ski pass costs €30 and a full meal in the hut costs around €25.

Great video! If you do another one of these, maybe put a lil tag or label on the sample videos so we know if it is of the Swiss or Dolomites.

You mentioned accessibility of getting to each place, but once you're, there which one is easier to get around, especially for a family with children?
