  • Dolomites Italy and its cute alpine huts. Eat the best of Italy’s South Tyrolean food after an easy summer hike to majestic views on the Dolomites Alpe di Siusi, Seiser Alm and Seceda. You’ll go on a hike to Italy and Europe’s largest alpine meadow below soaring peaks of UNESCO heritage protected mountains. Experience charming wooden huts, the warmth of local people, and high altitude trails with expansive views of the Dolomites most famous mountain groups. You’ll meet cows, edelweiss flowers, and the surprise of live traditional music in the middle of nowhere.
The Dolomites are a vast section of the European alps, famous for their pale and dramatic limestone mountains and designated as a UNESCO heritage site. Malga, Hütte, Schwaige, Baita, are all places to eat. Rifugios also offer a place to sleep. Our base is a house in Selva, the highest village in the steep valley called Val Gardena, about 45 minutes from Bolzano.
On our way to Seceda, Malga Troier brings us a basket of a South Tyrolean bread called Shüttlebrot. Shüttlebrot is a local cracker-bread. After we visit the Seceda peak, at Sofie Hutte Emre orders Grustl a popular hikers staple of eggs, smoked bacon, and fried potatoes. And I order Schlutzkrapfen. While we wait, the kitchen brings a surprise. An octopus salad.
Next we head for Alpe di Suisi or Seiser Alm, which is Europe’s largest and most magnificent alpine meadow. From the car park at Compatch, we’re heading up the meadow toward Punta di Oro. We follow the signs to the Gostner Hut, where we’ll have our first course with he Sasso Group mountains on one side and the Sciliar or Schlern on the other. Our second stop is only a short distance away, where Baita Tuene hut delivers on a panoramic view and traditional knödle with cole slaw. The final hut of our quest is the Rauch Hutte. We eat polenta with mushrooms and Kaiserschmarrn. Our Mountain Huts: Malga Troier, Sofie Hutte, Gostner Schwaige, Baita Tuene, Rauch Hutte.

Hi! Just another gorgeous video and an interesting hut contest! My wife and I always come skiing on these mountains in winter. Sophie Huette in Winter is one of our favourites, but to be honest, Alpe di Siusi (Seiserhalm) is a bit too flat for alpine skiers and is certainly very charming and appealing in summertime with its beautiful meadows! So, no really fair competition for sure! Many thanks for sharing!

Absolutely stunning! Looking forward to making a visit to this area. How many times did you sing the "Sound of Music" song while there?

  • @Youtuber-ku4nk

Looks so amazing. I’ve been there skiing.

  • @alexanderniessen5036

Thank you very much for the video. We are planning to fly over End of May - I hope the huts are open. Which hike did you prefer and how long are the hikes all together? Troier Hut, Sofie hut and then back down with the Gondola from which you started? Or did you like the Seiser Alm better? By the way, which one of you speaks German? Thank you for you hiking descriptions. Best regards from SoCal. -- Cheers.
