You are drawing the wrong conclusion in the assumption that if you see oil passing through the tubes the "return valves" are working properly and the separator is functioning correctly.
The right return valve returns oil from the first seperator stage, the hollow space in the housing combined with the directed air slots in the tube where the first seperation takes place, most oil is extracted here, after the first stage the air passes to the inside of the coalescing filter element where the remainder of the oil is extracted and this oil comes out of the left return valve. So if you see oil flow from the right return valve it means the first stage is working but you cannot tell if the left ( and most important) filter stage is working because the view is flooded with oil from the right first stage, you asume it works ok...The "non return valves" are actually not valves but a jet ( a tiny hole) with a sintered bronze filter in front of it to protect that tiny hole from fouling up with debris (lint) from the separator filter. The hole has to be tiny as it is a straight through connection between p-out and intake, every cfm of air leaking permanently away through this hole is destroying the effeciency of the compressor, so it has to be tiny and it is, metric about 0,3 -0,5 mm i guess. The correct way to check if the "return nozzle" , which i think is a better word for what this thing actually is and not what mattei's ita-glish calls it, is not clogged is to suck on the flat side, if you can draw a vaccuum than it is clogged. If had these new from a sealed-original-straight-from-factory-box clogged, the previous zinc plated versions had a tendency to grow zinc corrosion crystals in damp conditions ( like in your truck in wintertime) in that tiny hole to become blocked. The second stage then just fills up to the brim and starts pouring straight liquid oil in the line out.The change to the new nickel plating is in full swing but i still get regularly the old stile and see them in new compressors. Before i place new ones i always suck on them to check and makes sure they are open.
I dont know if you already replaced these?
Btw , like your vids!, i have some sort of passion for rotarys but always thought i was the only one ;-), keep those vids coming!

hey benny , another great video . as service techs in any field , we almost always come up against something that will make us scratch our heads once in awhile . it's frustrating as hell , but good for us at the same time , even though at the time it's a pain in the ass .... it becomes a great learning experience , and something we will never forget . experience , good or bad is a great teacher that we can all learn from ..... every day is a school day ...... you will fix it .... i know you will .... when i go on a call and find a bunch of shit and junk packed around the unit i'm going to be working on i make the client move it .... not my shit not my job ...... thanks again for the great video .

I've been doing outside service work since 1988 in 4 different states, customers love to use the compressor area / room for storage and hiding miscellaneous debris and random shit, I don't see that situation changing to rapidly you're probably going to have to get used to that. I was never a big fan of the hydro vane- mono rotor
air compressors. I worked for a Mattei distributor in the 80"s,
I think the problem that you have is a defective separator element,
in some cases the minimum pressure check valve will hang open upon shutdown causing reverse flow through the separator element and cause a very small rupture in the element material itself . or there may have been a problem in the assembly of the element itself in the manner in which it was glued together as most elements are held together with epoxy. I have replaced countless separator elements in the field for passing oil and you usually never visibly see anything wrong with the element itself.
    Good Luck Benny!

I would agree if they don't seat the o-rings properly in the sep element it can pass oil that way as well which is why I would recommend to my service manager if the customer calls again for this problem to just warranty the sep element thanks for your input!!!

Lmao "pendejo" Another good video man. I hear you're frustration sometimes customers can be inconsiderate about the amount of shit they pile up in your work area, but it is what it is I guess. Keep them coming homie.

If the Sep element is not defective, I would look at a sizing issue. If the compressor runs a very light load cycle and spends most of it's time unloaded that can lead to high oil carryover. I see this a lot when units are oversized for the application.

thewindhowler thanks for the input but I do not believe thats the issue it is in a auto stop start setting and only runs unloaded for a 230sec. At a time and when I went through the controller real fast I did notice run hours and load hours were not that far apart less than 12 hours difference

Another possibility is frequent starts and stops. Frequent starts and stops can cause oil carryover as well. The temp of the oil fluctuates a lot when this happens and can cause a unit to pass more oil than it should. Good Luck figuring it out.

thewindhowler really appreciate the advise if I get called back out to this place I'll check the history for these things luckily the PLC records what goes on with it and saves it!
