I didn't get my first car until I was 22 years old. It was a high mileage, 91 MR2 Turbo that half ass ran. The owner told me it needed an afm (he was right on that in the sense that that was the main problem) because it wouldn't rev past 3300 rpm. I bought it with the intention of flipping it because I was about to buy a mechanic special 300ZXTT, (Motor was repaired but was never installed) fix it, (no prior knowledge, but I was bold enough to learn) sell both, and buy my dream car... an FD3S RX-7. Basically, trade a paperclip trick. That didn't work because of flakey people and ended up stuck with the MR2. Everything I learned about cars came from that MR2... and I still own it 18 years later...... along with a 300zx slick top TT, both a lhd and rhd Fd RX-7 and a rhd Mk4 Supra. It took me to my mid to late 30s to get my dream cars, which took a lot of hard work/long hrs, and plenty of sacrifices to do so so seeing someone do it at 17 years old. I have to wonder how exactly did they do it?
Its an effective powerplant, no doubt. I just dont lust after an VQ or even VR engine in the same way that I do the old stuff ☹️ Even an LS is a more compelling swap to me than a VQ
Easy 400? And that is a very complicated swap to get running right etc. Would endup being more of a project tin can with a big ass engine than a nice clean streetable car. Freshkicks did that swap anf it was a huge headache lol
what makes silvia's feel as good as they do is because of how light the engine is. If you truly want "easy" power you throw a 2j in it. They are half the weight of a vq, the stock internals are far stronger and its a swap that has been a million times so its almost impossible to screw up.
It's based on production year. Since this is is a 1999 its 25 years old exactly. The law states that it can be imported as long as the car is not newer than 25 years (the greater 48 states) so in the US you can get a SR20 s15 from 1999 into just about every state except California and Hawaii (Both because of the emission standards and NOT because of the 25 year import law)
They ceases production in the late 90s / early 2000s because they weren't selling well. That simple. People weren't buying the mk4 Supra when they could've got a C5.
My first car in 97 was then new 5spd 96 civic hatch CX that didn't have ac, power steering, power brakes, power windows or abs😂. That car taught me humility😅, I learned so much from it. I had to build parts for it, because at the time there wasn't any parts really around. Kids now are spoiled with with expensive cars or cars with deep pockets😅. Everything I built or saved for
This dude's opening comments in the first minute of the video are making me stop watching this video. Why all the fwd honda talk in a video that's supposed to spotlight an S15.. Really odd choice in editing to leave that in. Makes me not want to continue watching and I probably won't.
Got to love when Honda guy's favorite car is another car and then all he does is talk about how he loves Hondas but has a car that's not a Honda. Then you should have just bought an S2000 then. Couldn't watch the video with tgis dude too cringe me.
too many levels of irony, theres the meet/part picker guys that arent self aware, and the self aware ones that know theyll NEVER drive THEIR S2k like someone that purely owns one to DRIVE it to DEATH. Then theres the outlier....thats like FULLY aware theyll never drive one like that or get to....and go with the i need something "different". For me they have my respect off top usually car "guy" to car guy its all supposed to be love no war etc...nonsense. But no i like judging ppl by their tires and why they run them over their monetary investment. Gotta get a gauge of how much Driving/investment theyve made to actually even know what mods they want....or are just trying to flex a car as if its some rolex. SMDH. AT least at that rate theres an aspect of self-awareness...and if its purely at the Flash/hotness game....im all about the "something different" vs just hondas...nothing against hondas. Love the integra doubt ill ever PUSH one. I have love for FF and the methodology behind the DC2. Still as a "car guy" theres levels to what kind of car guy you are....im not the type to lose it over stickers/parts slapped onto a build...vs someone with heavy break dust/burnt rubber in their wells...that i can tell DRIVES their car more than they clean it and look up what new part to bolt on. IDK something about someone that proves the range of nuance needed to actually build something to operate how they actually want exactly when they want...vs the range of "owner" that purely drives/owns as a HEY Look at me and nothing more. IMO all paths lead to LS/boosted LS or rich/E85 crackle tune....for those kinds of "owners/drivers". AKIN to the I want speed/performance and daily/streetability mentality. Something a tuner car or true "STREET CAR" will never actually offer. Its why i see "honda guys" as ppl that just want/seek throttle play and high rev. That dont want the pain/path of a rotary build/platform. Or ppl jaded from that platform that still want a buildable/tunable high rev experience. "these days"

Its an effective powerplant, no doubt. I just dont lust after an VQ or even VR engine in the same way that I do the old stuff ☹️ Even an LS is a more compelling swap to me than a VQ
Sorry but 400hp na in a vq is not "easy" and they also are not "easy" to swap into an s-chassis.
"im still a honda guy at heart" i mean shit ill take it from you this is my dream car.
Had my s15 for over 13 years.... its funny how you mention spec r like its some big powerhouse over the spec s lol
Different strokes for different folks, The turbo noises are what makes the s15 fun to drive.
I take it you have a spec S lol
This or 350z hr?
Yuugen Up!
aren’t they illegal for one more year I’m so confuseddddd
It's based on production year. Since this is is a 1999 its 25 years old exactly. The law states that it can be imported as long as the car is not newer than 25 years (the greater 48 states) so in the US you can get a SR20 s15 from 1999 into just about every state except California and Hawaii (Both because of the emission standards and NOT because of the 25 year import law)
@@cervesthd806 So the '99 produced in '98?
my first car was a jdm import mk3 supra with a 1j gte twin turbo, shit was soooooo fucking fun but i sold it and bought a 4 door r34 :)
They ceases production in the late 90s / early 2000s because they weren't selling well. That simple. People weren't buying the mk4 Supra when they could've got a C5.
Clean car good insight great video 👍
My first car in 97 was then new 5spd 96 civic hatch CX that didn't have ac, power steering, power brakes, power windows or abs😂. That car taught me humility😅, I learned so much from it. I had to build parts for it, because at the time there wasn't any parts really around. Kids now are spoiled with with expensive cars or cars with deep pockets😅. Everything I built or saved for
Dream JDM car right
that car is an elite PvMer on 2007scape
Your right!!! This car has teach me how to become a good driver. It not just fun to drive it testing you to drive safe
This dude's opening comments in the first minute of the video are making me stop watching this video. Why all the fwd honda talk in a video that's supposed to spotlight an S15.. Really odd choice in editing to leave that in. Makes me not want to continue watching and I probably won't.
Jonah!!!
Looks far better than a Skyline R34 GTR.
the “I won’t fall apart” car
Initial d referance?
One of the best cars I have drove is any s chassis with an aluminum ls swap. Period.
It makes the cars what they should be.
Watch the prices go up cause of this vid
I'm flattered.
I do love these cars!
You know its America when they compare a poolude with a S15 spec R!
Who the heck is getting a spec r for their first car?!? Hell nah
S15🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lol those are r33gtr wheels. People who can't afford a r35 hate it. I have had skyline GT-R and r35 GT-R. So I know what I'm talking about.
Ok
swagg money ap
idk what's in this video, but whatever it is i dont care. i'm still buying one lmao
Spec R with Spec S bumper... 🤔
Spec r come with that bumper, the bumper you are thinking about is the aero package bumper
@@1JZILVIA aero bumper looks 100x better. Odd it wasn't standard.
Drives like a Honda guy with an s15 😄
Thumb down for talking to an idior who says S15 and Prelude handle the same. What does he have? Accord with R34 headlights?😂😂
He owns both cars though haha Preludes handle exceptionally well, and models with ATTS are often described as feeling like a RWD car
When Nissan still had a set of balls. Don’t even say GTR or 350z
Nah, 350z, 370z and z34 are all amazing cars.
U meant to say wrx
You don't need to learn in a sim, your bum and the car just work it out, the sr20 is so responsive you can control everything from there.
Oh god no don't replace the SR20 with a grand tourer engine.
Its true
Dont buy a S15 then say your a honda heart pak😅
100%
Why do you have a Nissan?
Zulauf Isle
Lol
Got to love when Honda guy's favorite car is another car and then all he does is talk about how he loves Hondas but has a car that's not a Honda. Then you should have just bought an S2000 then. Couldn't watch the video with tgis dude too cringe me.
I'd probably consider myself a honda guy, ish. But my dream car is definitely not a honda
too many levels of irony, theres the meet/part picker guys that arent self aware, and the self aware ones that know theyll NEVER drive THEIR S2k like someone that purely owns one to DRIVE it to DEATH.
This video was specifically about the S15 lol. He wasn’t going to talk about his prelude in a video specifically about S15’s. He’s a Honda guy at heart.
@@anhiirr wtf do you mean?
Ya boi couldn't be more cringe worthy lol
S15 is still one of the best chassis out there, but I am a Honda guy as well and have to agree with this dude
