I have a fully loaded sx turbo awd with every option. I love it more than my previous BMW x5. The only drawback is fuel economy. Im getting 15-16 mpg in mixed driving, but I do have a heavy foot though.
The SX is a really a nice vehicle. In fact its on par with CX-5 in terms of handling but vastly more power, but if you are getting that kind of mileage ouch. Are you using premium fuel? Thats the catch with turbos. Yes you may be able to use regular unleaded with a turbo but it can hurt the efficiency of the engine and your mileage will take a hit.
yes i do use regular most of the time. Thanks for the tip I'm gonna try putting premium and see if theres a noticeable difference.
I know the premium fuel might give you a slight kick in HP. I'm not sure if the sportage SX turbo requires premium or not. Some turbo's do. With that said, your mileage is much lower than what you should get even with regular unleaded. You might want to inquire with the dealer about your mileage and ask them.

KIA has been killing the game with value. They're the best overall brand period right now IMO. I'll be very curious to see how Genesis does as a brand. I hope it does well as they're providing just as many features as the Germans, but for 60% of the price. If you don't care about a goddamn badge, they're definitely the way to go.

The whole trunk space thing has gotten completely blown out of proportion. You car reviewers need to CHILL OUT!! Four people do not take SIX suitcases on a trip to the mall. To assume that anyone needs 70 cubic feet of space is just SILLY.

can you do basic model reviews? in in the market for one but I can't afford the top of the line, as a matter of fact I can only spare 20k. it will be nice to see who give you the most for less money. when you do a fully loaded well there's a lot to like and even the ride becomes different. now if you do the basic one it will be more down to earth.
Certified preowned. You can get a nearly new one with a long warranty for 15k and get more of the options that way.

I think the melody is fine, maybe change the instrumentation? The synth used here is slightly harsh. A smoother synth sound might work better :)

Hey Alex, Great videos. I really hope you can get to review a 2016/17 ford expedition because it seems like the only full size suv with a proper 3rd row for adults without having to get the longer wheelbase. It seems to always get overlooked. I would love to get your opinion on that SUV since you're quite thorough. Greatly appreciated!
We enjoy your videos very much. You mentioned that it is hard to compare every vehicle, any chance that you can put a table up with the rankings? This way, we can see which cars have moved down or up as each new car gets released (e.g. Your #1 car last year may have dropped to #6 this year).

Have driven neither but the standard equip of the SX Sportage is compelling; so too is the reported sportiness & economy of the CX-5

No need for premium gas in the Sportage. Compensating for the lower fuel economy.

Alex, would comment which compact crossover within this range has the quietest cabin for long drives. I am also questioning the cabin noise between the Nissan Murano or Ford Edge. Hi Alex your work is among the best out there, thank you. I notice as this segment gets crowded so do your comparatives at the end. I think especially for this segment it would be great if you could do a market recap every so often. And I suggest rating bothe the high end versions you get, and some more middle of the road lower cost options
Checking my insurance agent, even the non turbo version cost $1,100 more than the CRV. !!!!!

The turbo SX version of this car smokes the CX-5, but it is more expensive and the steering feel in the CX-5 might be better.

Finally, thanks for the review Alex! I'm loving my EX especially for under $24,000 and find it better looking (inside & out) then the outdated competition like the Rav4, Rogue, etc.
Sporty is about handling. Mazda is the zoom,zoom brand b#cause do handling,not speed.perhaps a combo of speed&handling= sporty
How would you compare this to the 2017-19 Ford Escape? I just got a 2018 titanium and I think it really moves out with 2.0 turbo awd. It also feels like a sporty ride for this segment.
But front parking sensors only come at 30k. HIDs only come at 32k. I wouldn't really call that value, as these things are REALLY important in 2016.
what does "sporty" mean? In it's most practical highway terms, to me, it's acceleration both at speed (when wanting to pass or move out of someone's way fast) and from slow or stop (when wanting to merge onto the freeway). Otherwise, for driving pleasure, "sporty" takes on the sense and feel stuff you describe about the CX-5 over this.. but to me that's not as important as practical performance.
What vehicle is the next step up from this SX turbo, Alex? It doesn’t have many competitors except the Forester XT.

Alex. This is really nice redesign inside and out. However, the fuel economy seems to be the biggest drawback. Maybe if they install a start/stop system and/or upgrade the 6spd to a DCT or 8spd, the eco part will improve.
I have always been disappointed in their gas mileage. I have an Escape with a 2.0, and normally average around 24-26 MPG fairly easily. And similar size, and engine type.
A 4 ban-her with bad mg? Ill take the mourno wi%h a V6 and:24Mpg combined.
Alex, Kia would've put an LED daytime running light strip below the headlamp mogul and install a high beam next to the low beam while still having the LED fog lights.
You mentioned several times the CX-5....I think Mazda have heard you, and I am expecting their next gen CX-5 to rasie the bar again.

(I have to say, I always thought the sportage was more like subcompact (as the HR-V) and the sorento was the compact one (as the CR-V), but I'm new to this so I was wrong)
It would be nice to know how you would rate the acceleration and ride feel of the AWD EX trim with 2.4L engine and smaller wheels.

Didn't quite get the part about cabin noise, are you saying that wider tires will have less cabin noise or the other way around?
Great video lots of info. Question what do you think about the Sportage being able to comfortably fit 3 car seats in its second row? 1 rear racing and 2 front facing to be exact.

The Sorento allows drivers to adjust the headrest up, down, back, and forward. The Sportage could use those headrests.
Alex will this vehicle be always shifting up/down going around minimum hilly terrain?

Everything is great about this car except the gas mileage sux big time.
Alex, great video. I have a problem with the Kia in terms of it's fuel efficiency. The turbo 2.0L engine is just not competitive with either the Cherokee V6 or even the Ford 2.0 Ecoboost, which has in the past been a bit of a fuel-pig. In today's market, I can't see buying a vehicle with less that class-competitive fuel economy, when there are so many available that are in that mid-to-high 20's range.
I touch on that in the video, however one should keep in mind that by the EPA numbers the Escape, Cherokee or Forester XT will only cost $50 less to operate for 15,000 miles which is not a huge hit on the pocket book. I look forward to seeing Kia's 8-speed auto spread across the line, that should help here.

I had a '13 Kia Optima and had the same complaint about the headrests in the front seat - their rear-most setting was still too far forward, which became quite tiresome on a long ride.

Yes, but only a lightweight, travel type. A full size wheelchair can just fit in BUT leaves very little space for luggage. I'm waiting for the new Tiguan to compare.

I've seen this car in person at the Kia lot. I used to think it was ugly too, but actually it isn't half bad. And the more you look at it, the more it kind of grows on you. I think the color of this review car is atrocious, the white/red ones are infinitely better.

Thank you for your explanation. I looked at the definition that it refers to the mother of your spouse, then your explanation makes sense. In China we have a similar stereotype albeit there is a slight difference: in most cases it's slightly easier for a man to get well along with mother of wife than for a women to deal with mother of husband.

Thanks for the detailed review Alex. What really annoys me is like many manufacturers, the fun engine is only available in top trim that also comes with stuff I don't want. I was looking at this, but eventually decided against it because I don't want leather etc.
After watching this video I definitely do not regret getting a Forester XT over the Sportage. :)

2017 RAV4 LE comes with safety sense (radar cruise, pre collision braking, lane departure with steering assist, etc.) standard, at just under 25k. Do you still think the sportage has more standard equipment? (Btw I didn't see any of those features on the sportage options list, is it standard or not at all available?)
I just test drove the 2018 sx turbo yesterday and I really really loved it. It's a world of difference from the Honda crosstour I have now.

1:40 in this video, I'm actually surprised the Sportage you said a foot shorter than a Ford Explorer. I own both and it is actually 30+ inches of difference so check your facts
If you go back and watch the video again I said the Sorento was a a foot shorter than the Sportage. I was explaining that the Sportage is the compact entry while the Sorento is a tweener entry slotting between the Sportage and the Explorer.

Sorry to hear. As Alex said, the ride is stiff & fuel economy is bad. Rogue, Forester & Crv (though I will avoid it bc of recent engine oil issue) are safe bets.
