Thanks for the headtorch review, Martin. Appreciate you including the clips and demoing the lumens settings for different uses. I agree that for more technical trails, the high setting is probably most useful to show the roots and rocks.
Thanks Reto, aye, the brighter, the better when it comes to technical trails 🔦
This review is gold, Martin! The low setting might be for saving juice, but I'm with you - high setting all the way for those gnarly, root-filled trails, hehe! Also, love the easy battery swap feature, especially the rear light for that extra visibility.
Thanks Mihai, it's a nifty wee headtorch 👌
Nice review, Martin!!
Thanks Jay 👍
Sounds like a decent torch Martin. Does what it needs too without any faf or frills. Thanks for the review bud. 😎🤘
Cheers for tuning in Ben 👍
Very interesting Martin. I have not heard of that brand. I prefer alkaline batteries since can be easy replaced in a race. I have seen runners stuck if lithium battery goes out. Nobody can help them with spare batteries
Thanks Richard, Silva is a Swedish brand, it's been around since 1933. I guess we are more familiar with certain brands over here & likewise over your way 👍
Good review. The low setting would be useful for urban running where you want to be seen but there is sufficient street lighting for running or for non running activities like in a tent on a multi-day event. The two included battery packs is super handy for those events that require you have an extra headlamp battery. I wonder why the rechargeable battery doesn't have the rear red light option similar to the AAA battery pack as a rear red light is a nice feature in part because a red light is easy on your night vision (you could even wear the headtorch backwards using the red light). I recall your previous headtorch video where you didn't find the Silva comfortable--seems like this model must have been comfortable. Definitely competition out there for running head torches, which means you could do a quick comparison on how the Silva Trail Runner Free 2 Ultra (that's a long name!) fits in--pros and cons compared to the competition.
Totally agree, the low setting is fine for those urban/street-lit runs. Weirdly, the strap seems very similar to the other Silva model I tried, but it didn't annoy my hair in the same way. There's definitely scope for another comparison video, as I'm testing an LED Lense headtorch at the moment 😀
Thanks for the review. What do you think it's best for Trailrunning in 2024? 1. Fenix hm65r-t v2.0, 2. Olight Array 2 Pro, 3. Petzl Nao RL or the Silva Trail Runner Free 2?
If you want the best with money, not an issue, I'd have to say the Petzl Nao RL 👌
@TheDeterminedRunner Thank you. I tested the Petzl and the Fenix and the Fenix was the Winner. I don't like the colortemperature of the Petzl and the UI. For winterrunning and snowy and foggy weather conditions the white light of the Petzl isn't good. I like having a choice for a warm and neutral light. Also i don't like the Reactive Lightning mode of the Petzl. It was rubbish when breathing at 5°C (permanently changing brightness) so i had to turn it off. Also the material seems much better on the Fenix. I had no problems with bouncing in the Fenix. The headband ist great.
Thanks for your review.
