Will the channel start uploading in 21:9 because they're being edited in 21:9?
Phenomenal channel. Looking forward to more content!!
Correction: it was given back to the yemeni government in 2018
A sad mistake but Emirati socotra will remain Emirati
Yes it will always be Yemen
@@Zaabi
Why the obsession with Yemeni territory?
Don't you have enough toys to play with in your joke of a country?
@@tumslucks9781 go bark somewhere else
Dragon Tree also on Tenerife.
Such a beautiful Island. Ruined by UAE.
You mean saved by UAE.
i’d love more of this!
As a Yemeni, it saddens me that the Archipelagos of Socotra is being occupied by the UAE, just because they have oil money. They've also taken over Mayoon Island and built a military base, according to Reuters.
This reminds me of Russia annexing the Crimea from the Ukraine and nobody did anything.
Crimea was annexed after a referendum. I hope there’s a referendum in socotra by years end. Socotra would prosper with UAE.
@@Zaabi maybe uae should be annexed by the saudis, it won't make any difference after all they r us daddy's u do as they say.

Socotra is a Yemeni island
No it belongs to Somalia
@@BoskiM 😏 it belongs to Yemen
I know about this Island because EU4, that game have absurd achievement to play as an india kingdom sindh and change nation religion to Coptic (or other Christian) and the closest Christian province is Socotra
3:18 - I believe arabic inscriptions must be re-created in the video: they are written left-to-right, although correct way is right-to-left.
2:39 - please also fix: Homo Sapiens (there must me an "s" at the end of the 2nd word).
TH-cam doesn't allow videos to be edited
@@xp7575 then it could be fixed and re-uploaded.
surprised this island has been under Yemeni control to begin with considering Socotra is practically off the coast of northern Somalia. you’d think Somalia would have more influence on the island considering the proximity between the two but no.
Soqatara, actually belongs to Somalia.
Hai wendover and extremities 🔥🔥

Brilliant video - really fascinating and very sad. Thannk you.
This channel is amazing
Between the war and covid I don't really imagine alot of folk are visiting rn. But it's a beautiful place. I really don't want to see building on there because hotels n stuff will definitely Fk up the rare plants/life permently.
Even a bug in someone's shoe could do serious damage to these kinds of places. God forbid a rat finds its way there
I don't know if anyone told you Sam, but the Arabic spelling above the Latin spelling for "Socotra" in the island graphic is back to front. I was wondering why it was so hard to read.
Socotra is hidden gem and Is an iceland of african continent
Too bad it is involved in an international conflict. Seeing this video really makes me want to visit the island...
It was apart of our country
🇸🇴✊
We will return inshallah

I wish you had added subtitles in the vid for Mechtild as well as Adnan. I found their accents both equally difficult to understand. Otherwise, great vid about an amazing place.
why notifications are turned off for this channel?
Such a different video from sam but I love the 3 videos out already
Man this is difficult to watch. I had a trip scheduled there the same week the war broke out.
Oof, you can come via Dubai or Abu Dhabi or Cairo
Did you cancel
I was informed by the consulate that my tickets would not be honored.
Proud that UAE, they have made the life iin the Island more comfortable. Free medical, free electricity, no taxes. What more do u want?😊
The Kuwaitis destroyed Iraq.
The Qataris destroyed Syria.
The Saudis and UAE destroyed Yemen.
May the curse of God be upon the Masjid Al Munafiqeen.
Fun fact: UAE Offered to give the Island to Somalia in exchange for joining the civil war in Yemen but was refused.
Lol, why would anyone give anything to a state that’s can’t have a proper election and control it’s borders?
@@Zaabi Apparently you guys.
"...the UAE offered to reopen the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in the Somali capital Mogadishu on the condition Somalia take part in the war in Yemen, while officially claiming the Socotra archipelago as Somali territory." I am glad that the offer was refused as we respect Yemen's sovereignty. Unlike the UAE who funds Al-Shabaab and other terrorist organizations and plays a role in keeping countries destabilized and in turmoil (Libya, Yemen, Syria, Somalia to name a few). may the UAE regime collapse inshallah.

16:51 It is absolutely heartbreaking to see women living like that. Compelling women to dress in that manner is incredibly dehumanizing and misogynistic.

Wohoooo! New Channel!!!
Socotra is UAE now?? How have I missed this?..
You missed a war?
UAE as part of their destruction and war in yemen are now stealing whatever resources they can from them since the country is in the midst of war. it’s very disturbing.
It’s not part of UAE it’s part of their client state in Yemen, the South Yemen Movement Government based in Aden, led by the Southern Transitional Council
@@TheLocalLt it will be part of UAE. The people support it.
@@Zaabi I think the UAE prefers to keep it as part of South Yemen to avoid direct responsibility. Then after the war, assuming South Yemen and thus Socotra reintegrates into a reunited Yemen, the UAE can then use their presence on Socotra as leverage over the new Yemeni regime
Adnan al-Nubi is originally from Nubia region between Egypt and Sudan, the Sultan of Socotra in around the 1940s invited many of them to come and work in Socotra as his bodyguards + some of them were well-educated to work as Sultan's government reporters, writers etc... in addition that Sultan never trusted the original Arab tribes of Socotra he was too suspicious about them plotting him.
