I can see Kazinhos point about why listen to something that is only at about 80% when instead I can watch and listen to it when they are at 100%. However, for me, that is precisely why I enjoy listening or watching the practice or rehearsals as I can really then hear the difference between practicing and the fully performing. I know it's different for everyone though. 😊😊😊
Agree, I won't watch rehearsals too. But I'll definitely watch it AFTER seeing the actual concert. And I'll appreciate it more hearing raw vocals and the band without the noises of the audience
I've seen a different version of this rehearsal where they actually chat back and forth with each other and the musicians. I disagree with Kazinho. I actually enjoyed this rehearsal, at least the version I saw. Having a performance in the raw like this is cool. No fancy visuals, which kpop is known for, and the interchange between the group and musicians is fun to watch. Love Mamamoo and always enjoy your reactions to them ❤❤🦋❤
Yes, this is the cut where they just have the music, here is a link to the full rehearsal w/chat (and it has subs) [ENG SUB] 080916 (REPLAY) 2016 MAMAMOO CONCERT [MOOSICAL] PREVIEW - th-cam.com/video/kauh75NXqHo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XcfKqRCUnqRV5Kqf
Interesting reaction by Kazinho. I thought this was a fascinating session because we get to hear them working with real musicians in real time and it's all about the music rather than the spectacle or the dancing. This kind of video is rare in kpop, which probably doesn't matter to you since you're a self-described kpop hater, but it's refreshing for those of us looking for authentic musicianship by singers and instrumentalists in an industry dominated by synthesized music and heavily processed vocals (often lip synced live). I don't like most kpop because my ears are allergic to the sound of heavily compressed, autotuned and pitch corrected vocal tracks. I'm not saying what we're hearing is raw and unfiltered but whatever processing RBW did didn't alter the essential quality of their voices and wasn't noticeable, at least to me. It's been a couple of years since I watched this rehearsal session. You didn't include a link to the video you watched so I dunno for sure but I think the vid I used to watch included other or more songs because one of the things I really liked about it was that as the session went on you could hear the girls responding more and more to the musicians and making adjustments in the moment, which I didn't notice in this vid until Words Don't Come Easy. Back in 2016 when I got into Mamamoo this session just confirmed that they were real musicians who were serious about the craft of singing and were versatile af - speaking of Words Don't Come Easy, how many kpop groups have you heard doing a baby making bossa nova song? lol
@@djvillan 😊 Thanks! Did you see lunaestrellados' (tv-nim) translation of Solar's IG live yesterday? She had some interesting things to say about the new Gamsung covers. Her intent behind Love Letter made me appreciate it even more. I expected her version of First Love to smoke the original but other than nailing the key change (which sounded gratuitous in the original imo) I felt like she held back a bit and wondered whether it was out of deference to the original singer/songwriter, which would be just like Solar. Her singing is terrific of course but I thought she'd be a little more adventurous in her interpretation.
I agree. It's very enjoyable for me to watch/listen to live vocals + live music, and in Mamamoo's case, their charisma remains even in a calmer environment like this.
I can understand and appreciate Kazinho's point, especially if he doesn't ever get attached to the performers themselves aside from their music. But I still feel like there's something to hear in the music even if they can't give 100% in this setting. Partly due to the sound- some concerts have really great audio quality and you can hear every little part of their voice when they sing. But most concert footage I've seen the voices can be clouded a bit due to the volume of the music, the fans, and just the mics not picking up the same things. Where as a setting like this rehearsal, it's quiet and low energy enough that you get a really raw and intimate space to hear their voices. There's so much more texture you can hear and softer or lower notes that can be appreciated better because they are not lost to the background noise that often drowns them out in arenas. And I think in some cases because they may have to pull their punches when it comes to a belt or a high note, they have enough energy to be a little more creative in other parts of the song. There's time's in live performances where they will skip singing the line just before a belt so they can prepare themselves and approach the note with as much air as possible. In a performance like this rehearsal, they may have enough conserved air to sing that line and still do their belt, just not as intensely. I agree that this format may not appeal to all fans, and that's fine. But I really do think there is value here even if they are holding back.
Solar and Hwasa are off course fantastic vocalists. But somehow, every time I hear Mamamoo live I feel that it is Wheein who is the genius. It is she who makes them sound so great and brings Mamamoo to the next level.
@@davidhakanssonhagman i feel like it is wheein who is the genius. After you have back handed complimented the other 2 girls. Grow up whys a solo akgae commenting on the group
@@UzZZ-m4k I may be incorrect on what they were trying to say. I think it was just worded a bit funny. Hwasa and Solar have vastly different voices and tones (and there's no denying they're amazing), but as an OT4 I do feel like Wheein really ties the group's vocals together and serves as the bridge between the tones and timbres of the other two.
@@UzZZ-m4kThis is a sentiment shared by many of the reactors on TH-cam with vocal training or expertise. What Whee In does is not showy, but it is vocally challenging and demonstrates amazing agility. In particular, her ability to change her tone and style to harmonize with just about anyone and make it sound effortless. It’s not that Solar and Hwasa aren’t as capable, but they aren’t asked to do it as often as Whee In (best I can tell, most - but certainly not all - of the harmonies tend to be “Whee In &…” song after song). I enjoy all of them, including Moonbyul, who is often left out of these conversations but is a talented vocalist herself. However, even I recognize that Whee In is a big part of the “secret sauce” that elevates Mamamoo beyond other similar vocally-oriented groups. (Small aside: if you watch the video where they are deciding who will cover whose solo songs during the prep for the MyCon tour, no one challenges Solar’s assertion that “Whee In can do anything” when she’s arguing for the song she wants to cover. It’s a small recognition IMHO that Whee In is the most versatile member of the group. At the same time, it does not diminish any of their respective talents, nor does recognizing that Whee In is very talented in this regard.)
Yes, it's a different product for different customer. Idol groups leans heavily towards personal attachment. That's why they do personal interaction things, like livestreams, blogs, and vlogs where fans can have more personal interactions to the group as well as individual talents. That's why aside from song and dance practices they also have manner training more than the basic PR training. I don't know if this is the actual case, but based on my limited experience, livestreams are usually freebie fanservice or simply gated behind a membership. It's more of a behind the scenes product than an opportunistic cash grab. And based on Kazinho's statement, these products are simply not meant for his customer group. A more interesting, more directly behind the scenes video would be the one from It's Live where the first part of the video shows the behind-the-scenes and the second part is the actual show. It's really interesting to see how they plan to spice up their performance. It wouldn't really be a surprise, though, if you watch their vlogs, since they always do these kinds of planning, monitoring how it would look from the crowd's perspective, and generally controls the whole show. I always say that amazing vocals are Mamamoo's second greatest strength because their greatest strength lies in the meticulous care behind the magic of their live performance, including their mastery of stage improvisation.
Yeah its definitely great promo and fan service. I absolutely love them each as people. Musically, Wheein is my bias because she grounds every song and love her rnb honey voice, but as soloists and personalities I can't choose between them.
They do a lot of practicing, which is how they sing so well and concerts do have differences in songs. Either the live band doing something different from the recording, they also had some songs shorted to be more of a medley, but yeah this is just for the fans who want to see as much of them as they can. I agree, Solar is my favorite singer in the world and I probably would not have watched this live if it was available back then, I prefer the actual Moosical concert footage which is better. Even at 80% in a rehearsal they still sound better than most other groups.
FYI... Solar just released 2 new songs for her Solar Gamsung series, if you want to react to something which came out today. This is her long running project 13 songs, most released a fear years ago but she restarted the project a few months ago with a new song and then today releasing 2 more. These are covers, though one is a cover of a japanese song First Love, which I know very well but she did it in korean and english, rather than japanese and english but otherwise songs like the original. Another song Love Letter is there also.
I’m still confused about what happened to the last MAMAMOO video? You never changed the title but also never adressed why two performances weren’t in the video as planned?
I understand everyone has their opinion. Just fyi, This wasn't a rehearsal RIGHT before they went on stage, this was Mamamoo rehearsing for their FIRST large tour (which they rehearsed a lot for, singing, and dancing) But this one they wanted to live stream of them singing, and talking to their fans, since they were a small group, from a small company and they needed any, and all exposure they could get. Plus, they have an amazing connection with their fans. There are A LOT of people who do, like myself, and for those, this type of interaction is absolutely wonderful. It's also because of things like this, and because Mamamoo took the time to involve their fans in so much of what they did, that connection is still there today. Even with all of them doing solo projects atm, while Byul and Solar are still at rbw, Hwa Sa is at P Nation, and Whee In is a free agent. To us, their fans, they are still Mamamoo. Just so you understand what use something like this truly has, I honestly couldn't tell you how many times I've watched it, and I've only been a Moomoo since 2019. I think it's spectacular, I was so excited when I saw you were reacting to it right until the comments from Kaz. :( Thankfully ATOM liked it!! Go ATOM!
Kaz explained his views well, I think. I used to feel the same way he does in the past, before I discovered idols and started following artists for their content outside of their music. In fact, back then, I would have difficulty understanding why everyone put so much importance into concerts/live shows/etc when the studio recording was clearly superior in delivering the consistently high quality of sound and the unique aspects of the song that I loved, and that I expected to hear from music whenever I spent my time to listen to their songs. Of course, later in life, I was able to learn to appreciate the skills of the artist who performed well in a live setting, so now I like the charming aspects of both lives and polished recordings. They each have their own advantages, after all. Kaz makes sense in how he would like to enjoy music from a more technical perspective, which means that a session/rehearsal with changes in how the artist would deliver the performance would be infinitely more interesting than just any regular rehearsal, which could be essentially a diluted version of the actual official performance. That's not to say that there can't be highlights in rehearsal that the artist might not be able to achieve under the duress of the actual stage, because there certainly are, especially when it concerns how much of one aspect of the performance needs to be toned down (eg: choreography) in order to allow the artist to perform sufficiently in another aspects, but generally, I don't think there's much to comment on for rehearsal performance that hasn't deviated much from the standard performance. If Kaz is like me, then he would be more likely to experience fatigue from repeated viewings for performances of a piece with very little to differentiate them, and thus make them more unique and compelling to watch. After all, the concert version will be a better rendition of the same overall performance, so why not just watch that instead? Your argument about personal connection with the artist etc would have been better suited to a reaction to the full livestream with actual interactions and not just a cut of the songs performed. This cut alone that they've watched isn't necessarily enough to interest any viewers outside of the core fandom unless there's something specific and different about the way they've performed that could arguably be superior to the concert version. The reason why I agreed with Kaz (for his views, not that I feel the same way for Mamamoo) is because I can understand how I would feel much the same lack of interest for a simple rehearsal cut performed by any other artists that I appreciate, but am not emotionally invested in to the same extent as I am with Mamamoo, for example. It's a different story if there were more input and more insight into their thoughts and process regarding the performance, and music/production in general. That's not what is shown here. That's why his views make sense for this video. In the end, not every musicians on my favorite list will be one where I am emotionally invested in their content outside of music. That's not indicative of how highly I admire them for their work, though, and I imagine Kaz might be slightly similar. There's no reason to be angry about his lack of emotional investment, either. He praises and appreciates Mamamoo for their skills, and the production skills of their agency behind their music. Your comments about their openness with their fandom and how that fosters a great bond between them are of course correct, but that's not relevant to Kaz since he's only presented his personal views on this clip, and didn't deny the value of this content for others. That's probably why I decided to reply in the first place, actually 😂. It seemed like you had thought that he's proclaimed that there'd be no point in watching rehearsal clips, full stop, regardless of how anyone else feels.
I meant to say,, it'd be easier to experience fatigue for performances that don't differentiate much from each other, whereas stages that include more different arrangements would be more unique and compelling to watch... I completely missed the part in the middle of the thought 😂
