- January 22, 2006 - in front of the appreciative Seattle Seahawks fans at Qwest Field, Carrie Underwood sang one of the most beautiful renditions of the National Anthem ever performed on broadcast television. This clip is intended to honor that version, the song itself, and what it represents.
This is how the Anthem should be performed, I hate it when people ruin it by exaggerating it and trying to put their own spin on it.
same. it's actually disrespectful in our eyes (soldiers) to sing it in a different manner than it was written.

I am not ignorant dear, I am just stating an opinion many soldiers share. I am sure there are many different ways the anthem has been sung that is respectful. I just have not heard them yet. No rude comment was necessary.
If you would like to share the other artists names and performances in which they were sung different, I would definitely like to look at them.

It's because she didn't add her own twist like most performers who try to show off. Shes from Oklahoma, the heartland where we respect the anthem. It was properly done. Plus she has an amazing voice to boot.
I much prefer this classic style versus the "see me" overly exaggerated style

Not only is her voice amazing but she managed to do what most national anthem singers cannot do. Stay on tune and not change keys during the song. That's what separates the good from the great. Congratz you have my approval.

This is perfection and how the song is supposed to be sung. "Oh say" and "can you see" are ONE SENTENCE, not two how other singers try to change that and everything under the sun. Just sing the damn song and stop trying to put a twist on it.

Wow. Someone said this was boring and dull. I love the fact that she doesn't try to make it her own like other artists do with a bunch of fancy, stupid, random-sounding runs that almost completely change the melody of the song. I love how you can actually hear the crowd singing along with her--and they could do this because she didn't ruin it by changing the melody and doing all of the stupid crap other artists do. And it's a testament to the power and beauty of her voice that she can just simply sing the simple melody without really changing much and it stands on its own. In fact, after Whitney's version, I think this is the second best rendition.

It is boring and dull. I expect average from an average singer, but if an a list music artist is singing I'm expecting a performance. This was not that. There are kids in highschool that could have easily done this the same exact way.

***** He's right. But should have said it differently. The R&B artists do sing it very well but the butchering part is right. She sang it the right way and with respect. It should not be sung with so much verbrato. You can still put emotion into it even if you don't sing with so much of all that verbrato. People died for us and she sang for them not for herself!! She cared about them not about sounding good!!

Im Australian, But I have looked up some American anthems cuz I actually respect your anthem a lot, it makes me think how patriotic you guys can be, I see a lot of things in America that's just sad and gives you guys a bad name, Like your government. But you get a true American There for God family and country, Now a lot are Money Money and Count....ing it which is a shame. But I believe the American people, the ones who will fight for the beliefs will stand up one day. That's what that song means to me, I know im Australian, but im not just for Australia, im for Human race and world, Countrys are something that bring spice I guess u can say to a race, Asians are a beautiful race ( again not those fisherman that just want money, or a lot of businessmen, ) Americans are proud, Aussies well come one who doesn't love the aussie culture =P, Idians are peaceful ( unless provoked ) list goes on, But doesn't matter what country you are we are all sons of god and daughters of god, You guys used to lead with example, But Australia have died in the ass a bit as well, our government is rubbish.. Matt David I wish you Aussies had an anthem other than "Advance Australia Fair." It's not awful, but you deserve something better. Even "Waltzing Matilda" is miles better.

What many people fail to see is that by singing it's original form it INCLUDES EVERYONE to sing in UNISON.
That is the REAL inspiration of saying it and by EVERYONE joining in...it honors the flag, country, and those who died for it. Not to mention...those currently serving it.
The national anthem is NOT about a singer trying to sing it in their 'own' way. It's about preserving and honoring the history and and courage behind it.
When a star performer sings it in 'their' own 'style'...that's called a 'remake'. But anybody can do that. And by doing so, it renders and reduce the national anthem to nothing more than a vain embellishment of the singer and thus honoring his/herself. Instead of giving respect to where it's due.
It takes a LOT of humility to put the light on it's actual intent of unifying the people instead of oneself. (What most singers lack these days.)
But when a singer actually MOVES EVERYONE to JOIN IN UNISON...THAT is true humility and respect.
Heck, you can even tell that it's not done often that it actually shows the players awe struck by looking around as if it never happened before.
It was this close to being flawless. Being a perfectionist, I wish she did a little better w/ the ending, but everything beforehand was amazing

I like the classical version rather than the overly exaggerated one.
It pisses me off when the crowd starts whistling and howling like idiots during the Anthem, people should either sing along or remain silent. instead of screaming like idiots, its not a rock concert its the anthem
I have heard this song over done so many times with the riffs that I actually thought the original song only had those in it.
Beyonce has a better technique, a more well-trained voice for sure. But Carrie for sure eliminates Beyonce in natural vocal talent and ability. Much bigger voice.

This is how to properly sing the anthems. I hate when people forcefully try to put high notes squealing or screaming. Seems like that karaoke style singing crap started in the 1990s with Mariah Carey and when the Autotune garbage came out.

Mariah Carey can also sing, or else back in the day they never would of compared her to Whitney Houston. Beyonce is no where near them. She still has a long ways to go.
