Here's the real key to the boot picker dilemma: don't let go of the option key until you get past the second selection. In other words, hold it down while selecting the EFI boot option, hit enter while still holding option, and then pick the Sequoia installer, and THEN let go of the option key.
MBP 2016. I took the leap with the recommended 32gb flash drive ans on the second attempt I'm running full sails so far. My first attempt was using a 16gb flash drive I just happened to have handy and I wouldn't recommend it. Could have been an issue with available space and or read/write speeds on an older drive. This has been a real blessing to have such incredible community support.
Upgraded my 2014 MacMini with an already upgraded 500GB SSD Drive. Installation went flawlessly, and so far everything is working as expected. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks you helped me give it another few years of use to my MacbookPro 16inch - mid 2014. It works flawlessly. Faster than some windows laptops I've use recently.
Dude you aren't any ordinary Alexander! You ARE Alexander the Great!! You brought new life to my college going daughter's ageing Mid 2015 MBPRO!! In such hard times where almost everyone has a serious money crunch this was a TOTAL blessing!! Of course Old man Pops over here followed your set up to the T and Bingo all was well. I set this up at midnight so it was a pleasant surprise for mybkid the next morning!! Much love and gratitude from India my friend! Keep up the good work! God bless! 🍺🍺🍺
I recently followed your video tutorial on installing an unsupported macOS on my unsupported laptop, and I must say, it was incredibly helpful! Despite some features not being supported, I believe the upgrade is absolutely worth it. My laptop was previously running macOS 12, but after installing this new version, even though it’s still in its early stages, I noticed a significant boost in performance. All my applications are now supported and everything runs perfectly. The speed of my internet has increased, and overall, it’s like a breath of fresh air for my laptop. If anyone is still on the fence about whether to install this update or not, I highly recommend giving it a try. Just make sure to back up your data and go for it. I’m 99% sure you’ll love it and won’t want to go back! Thank you for the fantastic guide! 😊
i've just installed MacOs Sequoia on my early 2015 Macbook Pro after i watched your tutorial video and I have to say it's awesome so far. everything works smoothly, thanks bro.
Awesome video series! I had to check blogs and yt for how to update from the too old yosemite 10.10 to a newer one that opencore could start from.. that was the only step outside of your vids then it all went well. So far the performance and experience on sequoia seems quite reasonable and its just fun to see new life in an 'old' machine. Thanks! Your enthusiasm helped me decide its worth trying, and it was!
Thanks Bro for all your work you do. You are like my Santa which is coming back every year , yoiu give me a present of knowledge, advice and nicely spent time with tech!! Best of luck Bro!! Greetings from Poland!
I have done this twice now. First with a “Trash” can Mac Pro. That worked great! Good speed, very usable. Today worked on an iMac 2012…it worked, but it is horribly slow. I would say almost unusable. Probably the spinning drive being the culprit. Maybe one has to be selective with which computer can benefit. If time is money, trash the 2012, and get a Mac mini……..or a new iMac. The time wasted is not worth it. But on a positive note, your instructions, 6 easy steps, are perfect! If you would be so kind to answer me this. I built the first installer on a memory stick for the Trash can mac…and I thought I could use that same memory stick for the iMac. Somewhere in the process, i got a message saying, this memory stick was built for a different mac…….so i started whole process from your step one and eventually got there.
Updated my 2015 Mac yesterday as I was no longer able to sync photos. This is working great and all of my photos synced overnight. Thanks for the detailed walkthrough.
If more videos (tech or otherwise) could be made with the sane, unsensational, and crystal-clear approach of Mr. Alexander's -- what a vastly improved viewing experience there would be. And as someone hearing-impaired (even with hearing aids) I very much appreciate the clarity of speech throughout. I successfully updated an early-2015 MB Air and MB Pro to Sonoma with help largely from here and will decide about Sequoia. At age 84 it's perhaps a bit more difficult than, say, twenty years ago... ;-)
iMac 2015 and MacBook Pro 2017. Absolutely smoother performance and much more easier to install than Sonoma. Unsupported iMac was running on Sonoma and I upgraded it from the software upgrade menu. On the MacBook I jumped from Ventura to Sequoyah and presented a couple of hiccups but the post installation KDKs update fixed the issues. Thank you for your informative information and instructions.
Hello There Bro...i have the same machine like yours i have a macbook pro late 2013 and did exactly like you said 1 week ago and boom everything works perfectly just like you said in the video with pros and cons apart from that everything is awesome and smoothly working... thanks to you for uploading the sonoma coz i learnt all the detail work from that video and that was my first video that i watched of yours.... Again thanks alot from the Core of my Heart love from Sikandar(Pakistan)......❤
Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate your video! I just tried my 2012 Macbook pro and 2015 Macbook air and all work great! Very helpful and thanks again!
Thank Anson. I installed OS 15 Sequonia in my 2013 iMac which has 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD, 2GB NVidia and i5 processor. Installation completed correctly as per your last video mad on same. However my iMac becomes very slow.
Well said my friend. I installed Sequoia on an external SSD. Runs without any issues so far. I run a 2013 Intel i5 27inch iMac, 3TB Fusion drive, with 32gb of memory, running Catalina. Thanks for the update.👍🦘
I had a smooth installation of sequoia on my late 2011 MBP even without wiping clean my hard drive. But since my mac only has Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB, maps and find my still doesnt work. Only getting a black screen in the map area which is totally expected given my current hardware setup. Running the post -install root patch fixed the wifi and keyboard backlight issue that I had.
Late 2013 iMac 8g ram install went good, a few problems with WiFi/lag/graphics seemed to clear up after post install root patching but it won’t boot normally and will only boot with flash still in, I erased the hard drive before installing and everything and wondering if there is a setting somewhere in bios I can change or update cause if I don’t have flash plugged in it just blinks folder and says apple/support
Just installed Sequoia on my 2012 MBP 9,2 running 16 GB of RAM with a core duo i5. It's a little sluggish compared to the Monterey install, which ran smooth as silk, but it's still acceptably quick. Overall, pretty happy with it.
Thanks for the video Anson! Thought I’d post my experience. So I have a iMac late 2014 was running Yosemite, first upgrade to big sur and then jump led to Sequoia, unfortunately this upgrade did not work as expected with freezing and lagging! So I followed your downgrade to previous version. And I’m back to big sur for the moment and may update one Mac OS at a time!
I have early 2011 MBP and it's running smoothly! Absolutely worth the upgrade considering it's a 13y/o machine. Just make sure you upgraded your ssd and ram to support it.
Thank you Anson, the part where Wifi issues and buggy graphics I had to follow, but in the end didn't need them, I just had a buggy install first go, so went right back to the beginning and now all great my Late 2104 iMac 27inch 5k is now running a smooth Sequoia.
There is a Boot Picker Timeout In OCLP Settings which can be changed from the default 5 seconds up to 60 seconds. It will save a lot of time and frustration!
I have a 2014 MacBook Pro with 16GB ram. Installation went smoothly. On the plus side the sleep modus works which was not the case with Big Sur. Even the hibernation mode works. So far I think it is not worth it. Battery drain is enormous and I even lost 10%(!) of battery capacity within one day. Within a day I had to charge the battery twice with less then an hour browsing as workload. Fans running full speed without any app running. I discovered that the bluetoothd proces was spiking the cpu and had some difficulties disabling bluetooth. In an effort to tackle this problem I have reset SMC and NVRAM. If this doesn't work, I'll downgrade to Sonoma
Hi Anson, I recently started following you on youtube and for the very 1st time I installed Mac OS 15 using openlegacy patch (on my Late 2011 Macbook pro), after watching your tutotrial as it was very well explained and simple to follow. All the apps and everything works perfect, except my USD2 devices don't show up or work, like 1 of my external monitor is connected through Displaylink (the other monitor is connected via thunderbolt). If I connect a USB Flash Driver it doesn't show up either on my home screen or in locations. Anything connected to USB still shows up in the disk utility. I would highly appreciate it if you could address this issue and a fix in one of your forthcoming videos, please. Thanks
So happy I found your videos. I just want to know before I begin, if Messages, Mail, Photos, and Notes work as they should? I got iMac Late 2015 27" 5K , Fusion Drive with latest Monterey OS. Thanks!
Merry Christmas Anson . You are the best. This is super cool. Was nearly parting with £1000 plus for a MacBook Air M3 . My early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch( 2.2 Quad Core Intel i7, installed 16gb 1600 MHz DDR3, I also took out the disc drive and installed 1TB SSD Samsung 860 Evo ) . Currently updated to Sequoia 15.1.1. It seems to run ok with a few glitches here and there . Struggles with as an example TH-cam when loading and playback of audio , it’s as if it’s always tryin to catch up..then it freezes and I have to force restart …grrrrrr. Not sure if this is because of my old graphics which is currently only AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1GB / Intel HD graphics 3000 512MB . ( should I upgrade this also ? ) . Apart from these things it’s good and it takes a while and patience. Oh one other thing also the fan is always kicking in and sometimes seems like the laptop is going to take off like a Boeing 737 . 👍
Hi, I had successfully installed sequoia on my 27" iMac late 2013 with 8gb ram & 1tb HD. Thanks for your detailed & clear tutorial. However, I need help to the following issues: 1) operation is slow. 2) At login the display is grey for 1-2mins then the desktop appear. 3) The update apple account cannot be done. When I click continue, the cursor keep circling forever. Look forward to hear from you. Once again thank you.
if you go with the format option such that your mac is wiped clean make sure to download the open core patcher application on your phone so you can later transfer it to your mac via a cable connection as you will need it later for the root patching
@ through usb/usb-c cable connection to your macbook you can access your downloaded files and simply drag it from the files on your phone to your macbook
@@dennisayensah9033 hmmm, clever that. Must try it. However I did the wipe clean install on my Late 2012 MacMini 6,2 and OCLP and was thinking “hmmm where will I get OCLP from?” when it came up automatically as I had the USB still connected.
Thank you for the detailed videos and guidance from you side on these topics. I have upgraded my 2012 iMac to Ventura with OpenCore years ago and waited for the right moment to upgrade again to a new version. Now I like to have the iMac 2012 on Sequoia. Can I just follow the regular Apple update of should I follow the OpenCore process from scratch again? Hope you can help
I installed Sequoia in a Mac mini late 2014 and performance was awful, the fan was almost always on, so I returned to ventura which seems to be the best update that this kind of Macs can handle.
Thank you Anson! I have a 2017 i7 Air now running Sequoia. Only issue I have encountered is that at boot up the GUI shows the SSD before moving to the Apple Logo. Perhaps I missed a step but otherwise all is well. Should I do some rework or just ignore the little glitch?
Used your videos to successfully install macOS sonoma on MBP retina Late 2013 8gb Ram 256SSD. In my experience the macbook is running slow than catalina macOS. So probably it’s because the 8gb ram, but is working great and now is up to date
Hi Anson. Thanks very much for doing these videos. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro. The installation of Sequoia is freezing. I have tried 3 times to install it from scratch without success. I had the same problem installing Sonoma but eventually it did work. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Anson.
Thanks for the tutorial, I am not all together that techy but was able to use the step-by-step to get the job done well! That said, I have the same model you used in your demonstration pics but my online videos are all buffering now. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
I have a 2011 Mac Mini with 16G and 500G SSD. Sequoia experience was just bad. Very slow boot, “warm-up” and graphic glitches. Then I’ve tried Ventura and got a much better experience.
For those who are having a freezing issue with Chrome, wait for a few minutes, then select Chrome Menu > Preferences > System > Use graphic acceleration when available > OFF. Re-run Chrome and it works normally.
I followed your vid on upgrading to Sequoia yesterday and this morning have re-done Root patching, but Pages still crashes. interesting though as my iMac did not have Pages on it before I did the update, so I had to get it from App Store, but alas it doesn't seem to like being on my mid2010 iMac
I tried to install Sonoma to a MacBook Pro late 2008 but when I’m rebooting it & holding down the options button, it doesn’t seem to run properly the installation because it stopes just before the screen with the deleting the whole hard drive or installing as it is
I don't know a lot of computer stuff, so this question might sound dumb, but if you erase your hard drive before or doing the Sequoia deal, will you lose everything you have on you computer like files and stuff, or do you get that stuff back when you sign into your iCloud?
Hi, thanks so much for sharing. Do you know if Boot Camp will work on a late 12 or a late 13 MacBook Pro with Sequoia? If not what would be the latest operating system I could put that's unsupported thanks.
Update: Thanks to all the community that supports this effort. It was a fun project, but I noticed instability issues and reverted back to a stable Monterey. I'll revisit in the future. An amazing effort, probably just not ideal for the 2016 15 16gb 1tb with touchbar. No touch ID and some phantom crashing over a few hours of use. Again. Not a complaint at all. It was a really fun weekend project.
Hello Anson, thank you for this great solution. However, I am facing a problem downloading the MacOS. Each time I try to create or download installer, an error message pops up after downloading for minutes. Kindly assist to resolve.
Boot camp (Windows 10) not working anymore (in sequoia). I installed Sequoia easily on my MacBook pro 13in mid 2012 and iMac 21in mid 2013. I erased SSDs before installation. Formatted - GUID. Trying to install Windows 10 and observing "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disc has MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can be installed to GPT disk." I didn't have this trouble on macos Sonoma.
i have plenty of space to install (1tb). can i install ona separate partition just in case so i can dual boot and still use catalina. last time i followed one of your videos i did sonona on my 2012 macbook pro and it ran very slow and buggy.
I just installed Sequoia on my 2012 Mac Pro. 64 gigs of RAM and don’t have audio on my audio interface nor Midi on my midi interface. Is because Sequoia doesn’t like my 3.1 PCI card? It also boots slow.
I’ve got a 2012 MacBook Pro and I attempted to install patched version of Monterey and I got it done, and then migrated all of my files from Time Machine to it but after they were done it just kept bottling up then rebooting. It never booted up to the Home Screen desktop. Was there an issue with that patched OS and if so, would you recommend just downloading the Sequoia as opposed to any of the other ones on OCLP? I am currently running this MacBook Pro with patched version of Big Sur. Thank you in advance.
I just tried to install Sequoia and Sonoma onto a Late 2012 iMac with a 3tb Fusion Drive and 32gb Ram. I tried three times but it failed to install at the same point , 14 minutes remaining on the first installation part before you select which type of installation to select. Any idea?
I am getting error while i am about to install macos sequoia "an error occurred while preparing the installation. try running this application again " I am using 32gb usb for macos installer and i followed each step of yours. Everything goes well but when i select disk to install macos then this error pops up.
Early 2013 MacBook pro did not work my option reboot menu showed the EFI box and one other and on the next page only showed my hard drive not the sequoia install box i am stuck please help
I got sequoia running on my iMac11,2 and its working great... but since I need to use Final Cut Pro 10.4.6 non metal... is here anything I can do to have this version to run into my Sequoia? right now I have high Sierra running on another partition and I was planing to use Parallels to back and forth versions when I need to use FCP.. if you have any suggestion its really appreciated. thanks ; )
Hi I tried Installing Sequoia on my Mac 10,1 which was running Catalina however it seems to fail on the Install Sequoia after EFI boot. When Select the drive for installation. It says an error occurred. And in the installation log - failed on Trust cache
I upgraded my 2014 iMac to Sequoia. I didn’t erase the hard drive. Sequoia is on there, but i get a white screen. When I restart it seems like its in recovery mode. What’s going on ?
Bro, i am using INTEL macbook pro 16 2019 model. I understand apple wont be supporting INTEL macbooks in future. My question is , will INTEL macbooks will be completely unusable in future ? I am using it for normal day-to-day browsing using safari, youtube, apps like Notion , CRAFT , logseq etc. Will these apps support will be completely stopped in future ?
Is it worth trying this on MacBook Pro Mid 2010 or Early 2011 with 16gb of ram or will it be the same issue with Sonoma where the background does not work after running post install patches?
I had installed Sequoia and when it booted up I got a white screen I I couldn’t set my screen brightness than I installed the latest root patcher and than everything seems fine then I click again root patcher and I do the root patching again but I doesn’t download KDK for the second time and when it done I entered my passcode and the loading bar start to moving and around the half of the bar the screen went black and when it’s came back I’m at the os but I have a black wallpaper and the new wallpapers that came on the update doesn’t showing up can you help me?
I use a 64 GB flash drive, however when I try to install macos on it, it always gives me this error "failed to create macos installer" i tried to erase and reformat the flash drive without success. I've tried multiple flash drives without results. What do I do? I can't get past this step. I have a Macbook Air early 2015 currently using Monterey.
Here's the real key to the boot picker dilemma: don't let go of the option key until you get past the second selection. In other words, hold it down while selecting the EFI boot option, hit enter while still holding option, and then pick the Sequoia installer, and THEN let go of the option key.

However, I need help to the following issues:
1) operation is slow.
How would you transfer from phone to Mac?
@ through usb/usb-c cable connection to your macbook you can access your downloaded files and simply drag it from the files on your phone to your macbook
@@dennisayensah9033 hmmm, clever that. Must try it. However I did the wipe clean install on my Late 2012 MacMini 6,2 and OCLP and was thinking “hmmm where will I get OCLP from?” when it came up automatically as I had the USB still connected.
@ You were fortunate it was able to open automatically. I wasn’t as lucky so i had to think outside the box on how to get oclp back on my macbook
i Upgraded my MacBook Pro 2017 15 inch with absolutely no problem
Thank you for the detailed videos and guidance from you side on these topics. I have upgraded my 2012 iMac to Ventura with OpenCore years ago and waited for the right moment to upgrade again to a new version. Now I like to have the iMac 2012 on Sequoia. Can I just follow the regular Apple update of should I follow the OpenCore process from scratch again? Hope you can help
pretty sure using the open core update is the best way
Excelente! Muchas gracias!
I installed Sequoia in a Mac mini late 2014 and performance was awful, the fan was almost always on, so I returned to ventura which seems to be the best update that this kind of Macs can handle.
I have Mac osx sequoia running pretty well on my 2014 Mac book air
Thanks Anson.
you're awesome dude
Hi sir , kindly make a video on “how to use NTFS usb on mac for read and write”
Did the installation, on my MacBook pro 2012, works very well, just want to increase my ram
Great to hear! Hopefully your current RAM is enough for most of your tasks.
I tried to install Sonoma to a MacBook Pro late 2008 but when I’m rebooting it & holding down the options button, it doesn’t seem to run properly the installation because it stopes just before the screen with the deleting the whole hard drive or installing as it is
Couldn’t make an installer on 16GB flash drive. 32 should be the minimum. 2015 MBP now upgraded. Needed for security fixes.
I don't know a lot of computer stuff, so this question might sound dumb, but if you erase your hard drive before or doing the Sequoia deal, will you lose everything you have on you computer like files and stuff, or do you get that stuff back when you sign into your iCloud?
My mac works fine with the new update
Only have one issue if I have removed my pendrive it will be showing up unsupported mac
Hi I'm running Sonoma 14.3 on iMac mini 2012 do I have to download the late Apple software to the flash drive or not.
I still get the Boot Menu after doing this upgrade how do i get it to stop doing that and automatically load into the software?
Anything to do prior to help an iMac download and install faster ?
Can you go back to an older version if you have too many bugs?
Went well on the 2016 macbook pro 15". No messages, facetime, contacts, maps, and not sure why. They just fail to launch.
Hi, thanks so much for sharing. Do you know if Boot Camp will work on a late 12 or a late 13 MacBook Pro with Sequoia? If not what would be the latest operating system I could put that's unsupported thanks.
Messages and FT are nonexistent on my 2017 MacBook Pro. Directly after updating to Sequoia . Any fixes?
Thanks for the video
I have a problem with m iCloud account I'm unable to connect into Apple music or app store
Definitely easier install than Sonoma. But I’m kinda bummed that we can’t use the iPhone mirroring because of a lack of t2 chip
It was a really fun weekend project.
i installed it in Imac 2017 but i cant use it without usb drive , lt only start with usb drive .How to fix this issue?
Install OpenCore to the disk. Step 5 in my install tutorial: th-cam.com/video/in5-3EjKFqA/w-d-xo.html
Hello Anson, thank you for this great solution. However, I am facing a problem downloading the MacOS. Each time I try to create or download installer, an error message pops up after downloading for minutes. Kindly assist to resolve.
How about an iMac (2017) with Fusion Drive ? Does this still work ? Boot time takes longer now on Sequoia...
Any idea of how to fix red screens on chrome and Spotify app’s with Sonoma and sequoia on a trash can?
Boot camp (Windows 10) not working anymore (in sequoia).
I installed Sequoia easily on my MacBook pro 13in mid 2012 and iMac 21in mid 2013. I erased SSDs before installation. Formatted - GUID. Trying to install Windows 10 and observing "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disc has MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can be installed to GPT disk."
I didn't have this trouble on macos Sonoma.
i have plenty of space to install (1tb). can i install ona separate partition just in case so i can dual boot and still use catalina. last time i followed one of your videos i did sonona on my 2012 macbook pro and it ran very slow and buggy.
Getting screen graphics errors after using a while on iMac late 2012. Back to old supported macOS for me
I just installed Sequoia on my 2012 Mac Pro.
What about music apps? Hows Logic and Ableton running with this?
on my late 2012 mac after i try to instal sequoia it gets stuck on black boot logo
I just tried to install Sequoia and Sonoma onto a Late 2012 iMac with a 3tb Fusion Drive and 32gb Ram. I tried three times but it failed to install at the same point , 14 minutes remaining on the first installation part before you select which type of installation to select. Any idea?
I am getting error while i am about to install macos sequoia "an error occurred while preparing the installation. try running this application again "
I am using 32gb usb for macos installer and i followed each step of yours.
Everything goes well but when i select disk to install macos then this error pops up.
What do you recommend? Install as an upgrade or a clean installation when you get documents afterwards from your Time Machine?
How is security using open core
Early 2013 MacBook pro did not work my option reboot menu showed the EFI box and one other and on the next page only showed my hard drive not the sequoia install box i am stuck please help
Hello, is there a way to install the pre-downloaded operating system file through open core? Or should it be downloaded online?
Can you still access the App Store?
I'm having issues with having capcut up and running. It just shows a blank black-grayish page.
What happens if your mouse and keyboard are not connecting and this is the only way to type or move the cursor on my computer? Is there an override?
Go to 4:30 for the answer on the video question.
Will these apps support will be completely stopped in future ?
is it okay to not have a flash drive while installing it?
I installed sequoia on my MacBook pro but the fans are always on and it became totally slow
I installed sonoma via patcher. can I update to Sequoia directly from updates? or do i have to manually download and install it?
