M Audio Oxygen Pro 25 is connected to my MPC software and my MPC studio. Can I map it my keyboard to both software or should I get Akai Mini keyboard for my MPC and just map my m audio to Studio one?
I first learned how to produce in FL even tried Ableton for a second...but as soon as I found Studio One I knew I was home...Honestly there's no better DAW!
Studio One is my favorite DAW of all time. Started with Cubase 1, went to Pro Tools, then Logic. When I found S1 it felt like finally I hit on a DAW that made it fun again. It just works, and gets better and better all the time.
It's been fun watching the audience for Studio One grow over the years. I really think they've built a great cohesive piece of software, and it's become my go-to.
I've used FL Studio for over 10 years, and have only been using Studio One for two weeks.... I downloaded the free demo version of Studio One first to check it out and when I had a track idea laid out beyond a loop or rough sketch in less than 15 minutes from opening it up the first time... yeah... It does what I wish FL Studio did, automatically. The renaming, color coding, mixer routing, changing all that up mid session in a few clicks... so fucking easy. I found myself more focused on the music and the arrangement in Studio One vs the routing and organization in FL Studio. Everyone's workflow needs are different and not everyone needs what Studio One does, but for me, this change was incredible. I can focus on experimenting and creating while Studio One handles everything else under the hood.
@@bl6628 This is exactly what I'm going through right now lol. S1 is so much more streamlined, and after about a month I'm caught up to where I was with FL. The only thing I miss is FLEX :(
I’m a fairly new to studio one. I love it. Started in Cubase then to FL, then to reaper. I loved how FL handled midi and reaper for audio. Studio one does midi and audio perfectly. My favorite part is the score view. For me it is so much easier writing with an actual score rather than the midi editor. So far I am loving my time in studio one.
I absolutely love ProTools and have used it since 2005. I switched to Studio One on the advice of a friend who used to co-own a major studio in Austin. I’m very impressed with the DAW itself. It seems more advanced than PT. Throw in the excellent plugins it comes with, the scratch pad, arranger track and chord track for pre-production, then the integration of a mastering environment, and a brilliant live offering on top of the work you’ve done already to record and release your music - very impressed. Not to mention that if you’re pod casting or you-tubing, they’ve got you covered there. I didn’t need to like Studio One. But I’m glad I made the switch. I can tell Presonus cares about me at my level more than ProTools does.
I'm glad that Mitch made this video. For me, It says a lot about Studio One. I had been pulling my hair out trying to decide which DAW to get, hoping that whatever I'd get would fit what I'm doing! So I believe I made the right choice in purchasing Studio One. Just like with my Korg Kronos, when I first got it, ten years ago, I thought I might have made a mistake, because the Kronos just seemed so huge, complex and complicating in its capabilities. for a short while I thought to myself, "What did I get myself into?!" But now, I can fly right along with it and make songs in no time flat. I, then got and Behringer X32 Producer, then the Waves Soundgrid Impact system, with the apps and a lot of plugins, so I was anxious in the beginning with those too, but I'm doing pretty well with that now too. So hopefully now, I'll be able to have the same ease and workflow that I came to know with my peripherals and other apps as well. Thanks, Mitch, for helping to instill in me, confidence and peace of mind, and the idea that I did make the right choice for a DAW. 🤗👍🙏🎹🎸🎷
I don't want to look like I'm drinking the kool-aid. To me studio one is the most robust and stable DAW. I’ve worked with different DAWs in the past and I always felt like I was missing something, with Studio One, I find myself catching up to all the features that this DAW offers and it allows me to work on my ideas and focus on the creative process.
Studio One is a magnificent daw but, Cubase is the greatest of them all. Way, way better. I'm using both, by the way. Cubase Elements 6 and Studio One 4 Artist.
Studio One was actually created by some ex-Cubase devs. It's basically a stripped down Cubase without the bloat. I just find the environment quicker to navigate in S1.
@@KCinSD84 absolutely right!!! And now we look at S1 v.5, they did a great job with improvements!!! But, I really need some things here. 1) They have to create a pitch-correction plugin for S1. But if the users want to use Melodyne, it's up to them. 2) Cubase has its integrated score editor. I'd like S1 to have the same option. 3) The Sample Editor should have many features such as Noise Removal Tool... the Gate cannot be used at all times for all samples... Oh, and why Cubase mostly wins is the fact that they MASTER the WAY THEY MANAGE MIDI INSTRUMENTS!!!
Anybody old enough to remember Pro Tools Free? This was pre-broadband pre-cellphones etc when the first colorful iMacs came out along with the G3 blue and white whale. Back then there was a totally free version of pro tools that was limited to like 8 tracks, which doesn’t sound like much considering everything that’s available for next to nothing these days, but there wasn’t much more than that. What it did for me was got me used to and familiar with how Pro Tools worked, which years later would apply to so much more software. PT is it’s own thing and does a really good job of simulating an analog studio signal path, but there is so much more that can be done with different approaches ... a great example is Reason, which has grown into its own monster. I tend to use Logic these days, but ever since I saw the Presonus DAW I’ve wanted to try it. Something about just the way the interface looks. Nice and dark. Glad I watched this - now I know what I’ve been missing.
I was a faithful Sonar user from 02 til their demise. PreSonus offered great cross grade pricing. SO much more intuitive! Other than having to learn new keyboard shortcuts I lost very little time getting going again. I love that they listen to their users too! All too rare these days. The mastering software is very usable too.
Howdy Mitch. Gee I really enjoy your videos. Extremely informative. I am thinking you will be the person to contact with a problem I have with my PA. The problem seems to be mid and sub ‘ringing’, . Earlier on I had JBL EONs, with matching subs. I got a lot of ringing from them no matter what I did. So have recently updated to JBL 725fs running passively from my main amp, a QSC PLD 4.5. Thought surely after $6000 on speakers the problem would be fixed. But still present. I am convinced maybe a good gain structure and EQ setup be the way to go?. Am using a Driverack PA2 speaker management. Have tried several changes there including setting up auto eq with the RTA mic. I was told to stay away from graphic EQ, use parametric. Any advice / guidance would be met with a million thanks!. Thx Mitch!.
There's a bunch of us that moved from Pro Tools HD to Studio One. Avid might market their DAW as an industry standard but what Presonus offers with Studio One Professional is total audio workflow with constant updates that does not cost legs and limbs. All they needed to add in next update is SMPTE workflow and then it's game over.
Good video, but, all this features, Logic Pro X has them and exceeds them.... (Except the ability to chose skins.... you have to make it through 3rd parties)
I use Logic Pro and it lacks a ton compared to Studio One. Mastering Page, Plugin browser with drag drop, automaton shapes, macros, track visibility, track and plugin search, nested folders(without hack), fx chains, splitter tool etc etc. I still use Logic though as it performs better on Mac and more mature but Studio One is catching up fast.
Wow with Studio One, and many other DAWs, "You can do this, and you can do that, and you can, you can, you can. etc. etc. etc. But let's try and keep it real. Just because "YOU CAN!", does this mean you will? Especially if you are a home recording "enthusiast". OK, admittedly, like ME! Regarding the notion; "If I get this DAW, my music will flow out of me, and I will be inspired because of this, or that product's, ease of use and general wonderfulness!" Ask yourself what I needed to ask myself, " Am I already inspired to write songs, and/or have I already created musical art, that I now want to produce? Have I already used a DAW, and really need to move on to a more proficient one, (in my eyes?). If not, save your money, and spend it on an instrument, or better microphone, or input device. (Hopefully from Sweetwater!) And learn or improve in your musical craft! Studio One, or many of today's DAWs, are like INSTITUTIONS! They are HUGE! But, if you need them, like many who actually use them, to produce music, or understand their details enough to create TH-cam tutorial videos, go for it! Don't get sucked in by the "magical misty allure" of: "You can do this, and you can do that". Even though it's true, will you? Really? That's why I decided to TRY the basic free version 1st. By the way, if you purchase a Presonus Faderport v2, ask Sweetwater guys if you can get the 2nd from the top tier Studio One Artist version, for free. Maybe, maybe.
I can no longer afford Pro Tools @ $300+ per year. I am looking at both PreSonus Studio One and Cubase. I lean towards the audio recording/editing/mixing and distribution side of things. My VI of choice is Toontracks EZ Drummer. I use it quite a bit. But other than that, 99% of my performances are audio recordings: Vocals, bass, drums, keys, guitar etc. Also, believe it or not, I STILL use the Zoom H2 recorder for field recordings, and import those 44.1 k, 24bit wav files in for editing. Anything from lessons to guitar improv sessions to interviews ... Suggestions? I will be calling Presonus on Monday 5/2, with a ton of questions re Studio Live and Sphere. I hate to say goodbye to ProTools, but they seem to have stopped caring about my patronage for at least a few years. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions!!

Although you may be able to map the keyboard to both devices at once, it would probably be more efficient to have two keyboards so you're not sending the same MIDI information to two places at once. I've been making music on computers since the early 90's with Cakewalk on DOS and have used pretty much every DAW out there. One of my favorites was Acid Pro when it came out and also used Reason for years. I was also using Cubase for a while but when Studio One 3 came out I moved completely to this!! 5.2 has some great new features!!
ok, great summary, I haven't jumped to S1 from Logic because most of the community of Film Composers warn about the lack of video clock or timer. to write hardcore music to picture. Is it integrated in the lates upgrade there?
I love ableton but its compicated asf. When i watch tutorials people just hit x y z buttons and boom things work and when i do the exact same thing nothing happens. Searching for a new Daw anybody has a good idea of how ableton compares to this?? Any input would be greatly appreciated
From what I can see Ableton is one of the best DAWs out there but then there is Studio One, Studio One is like looking through a glass everything is so crystal clear.
Thanks for reaching out! I don't think there is necessarily a 'best for any situation' DAW for vocals, it really depends on your setup and workflow and what you value in a DAW. Studio One is a powerful DAW with a ton of great features, and it's very intuitive. If you work mostly in the box with a lot of plug-ins, Studio One can be very simple to manage and mix with. If you use a lot of outboard gear and utilize a lot of automation, Pro Tools may be a DAW that you could strongly consider. Hey, Wilson! Great question. Studio One Pro currently has some basic video features for post production including importing, syncing and exporting, which are great for casual projects. But for professional TV/film projects, a DAW like Cubase might be preferred because of its deeper video integration. Let me know if I can help further! i love studio one but i hate editing with it, it lacks the select all equal subposition and i use this a lot in logic and cubase has it too but studio one makes it hard and this is why i don't use studio one and i asked them to implement this but for years they don't listen ...
@@andypryce7417 it is named differently i forgot .. its been 2 years since i used cubase . try testing all the select options inside the piano roll i remember you have to right click and then you will see select options its named select all ( something ) i can't remember ..
Studio One has this thing called Audio Bend. What's great about this is when working on drums, you can automatically detect the transients and S1 will put bend markers on it. It's very fast and easy to use. If you want to know more you can search for "quantizing drums in studio one" here on TH-cam.
I am trying to learn about this DAW stuff. So after watching the video, and reading lots of comments, I have a question, my question is how do you plug your guitar into your computer to "record" a track using this software? Am I incorrectly assuming you need a 1/4" input jack for the guitar cord somewhere? And then a 1/4" output jack to feed the "software" version of the sound signal out to your amp?
To record you need a "audio interface" device that you connect your 1/4" into, then the device will transmit the signal via USB cable to your computer. Take a look on the Sweetwater site they have a bunch. Then you will need to download the DAW software and record the input from the software itself. Lots of tutorial videos here on TH-cam to get you going.
I'm thinking of moving from (or adding to) Digital Performer, which I've used for many many years and know well. My day gig involves spoken word seminars where I have to name a lot of tracks. Without getting into too much detail, I have to add all the track markers and titles after the fact in DSP Quattro as DP won't export markers to CD tracks in that way. I'm really curious how Studio One handles markers in wav files > CD track markers. I would love to be able to enter my markers/track titles as I work linerarly, rather than having to enter hem in after the fact. I hope I made that clear! Any experienced users - I appreciate your thoughts.
Hello, theoversouls! Studio One makes this quite simple. You can add markers while the transport is running by pressing the “Y” key. From there, the track designations can be setup to follow the markers. Studio One might be excellent, but it was so utterly unintuitive that there was no reason for me to ditch 12 years of Cakewalk Sonar experience, even if it does crash a bit too often.
Its a shame you didn't get on with it. One of its often cited features is its intuitiveness, and certainly i often find exactky what i need just by trying, so I would certainly take issue with your suggestion its not intuitive. Im not gonna get tribal on DAWs, but Studio One is exactly what ive been looking for for years, and for me, by far the best option.
If your efficient with cakewalk I’d say stick with it otherwise it would be like staring over. I believe Studio one has a way to change keyboard shortcuts to match cakewalks shortcuts or any DAW you want very simply. Any DAW that works for you is best.
@@andypryce7417 Unless you're using the entry level Studio One Prime, you certainly do pay. Full Professional version is $400, the sawed off Artist version is $100.

I’ve used many DAWs and Studio One is my favorite. If you have not tried it, definitely give it a try 🙂
The splitter tool is the best! No more additional tracks for parallel compression.
My favorite part of the splitter is being able to split by frequency, and create multiband processing.

I started on Sonar, then Pro Tools, to Cubase, and then Logic Pro X. I switched to Studio One and never looked back.
I use Sonar sometimes but then I always come back home to Studio One.

I LOVE Studio One. I started messing around with it back in version 3, but i didnt make the full switch until recently after version 5 was released.
Studio One, Notion, and FaderPort 8 user. Started out with Ableton, haven't looked back since day one.

Yes! I started with PT Free over 20 years ago. Though I I got it the year I first had broadband. It was 8 tracks and ran on windows 98 and Mac Os 9

Well yeah, when you have ex employees from Steinberg make a better cubase, what do you expect?
I transitioned from Pro Tools to Studio One 6 and haven't looked back.

I was using S1 from 2014 to 2021. Switched to Nuendo for almost a year. But now, I’m back to using S1 as my main daw.

Wow with Studio One, and many other DAWs, "You can do this, and you can do that, and you can, you can, you can. etc. etc. etc.
But let's try and keep it real. Just because "YOU CAN!", does this mean you will?
Especially if you are a home recording "enthusiast". OK, admittedly, like ME!
Regarding the notion; "If I get this DAW, my music will flow out of me, and I will be inspired because of this, or that product's, ease of use and general wonderfulness!"
Ask yourself what I needed to ask myself, " Am I already inspired to write songs, and/or have I already created musical art, that I now want to produce?
Have I already used a DAW, and really need to move on to a more proficient one, (in my eyes?).
If not, save your money, and spend it on an instrument, or better microphone, or input device. (Hopefully from Sweetwater!) And learn or improve in your musical craft!
Studio One, or many of today's DAWs, are like INSTITUTIONS! They are HUGE!
But, if you need them, like many who actually use them, to produce music, or understand their details enough to create TH-cam tutorial videos, go for it!
Don't get sucked in by the "magical misty allure" of: "You can do this, and you can do that".
Even though it's true, will you? Really?
That's why I decided to TRY the basic free version 1st.
By the way, if you purchase a Presonus Faderport v2, ask Sweetwater guys if you can get the 2nd from the top tier Studio One Artist version, for free.

It’s pretty nice. I control S1 from my drum set all the time.
As much as I like S1, got ver. 6 now, I still find the instruments fairly unusable. That's especially true for Presence

I can no longer afford Pro Tools @ $300+ per year. I am looking at both PreSonus Studio One and Cubase. I lean towards the audio recording/editing/mixing and distribution side of things. My VI of choice is Toontracks EZ Drummer. I use it quite a bit. But other than that, 99% of my performances are audio recordings: Vocals, bass, drums, keys, guitar etc. Also, believe it or not, I STILL use the Zoom H2 recorder for field recordings, and import those 44.1 k, 24bit wav files in for editing. Anything from lessons to guitar improv sessions to interviews ... Suggestions? I will be calling Presonus on Monday 5/2, with a ton of questions re Studio Live and Sphere. I hate to say goodbye to ProTools, but they seem to have stopped caring about my patronage for at least a few years. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions!!

M Audio Oxygen Pro 25 is connected to my MPC software and my MPC studio. Can I map it my keyboard to both software or should I get Akai Mini keyboard for my MPC and just map my m audio to Studio one?

Although you may be able to map the keyboard to both devices at once, it would probably be more efficient to have two keyboards so you're not sending the same MIDI information to two places at once. I've been making music on computers since the early 90's with Cakewalk on DOS and have used pretty much every DAW out there. One of my favorites was Acid Pro when it came out and also used Reason for years. I was also using Cubase for a while but when Studio One 3 came out I moved completely to this!! 5.2 has some great new features!!

ok, great summary, I haven't jumped to S1 from Logic because most of the community of Film Composers warn about the lack of video clock or timer. to write hardcore music to picture. Is it integrated in the lates upgrade there?
Steinberg Nuendo is best for writing music for video. It has lot of advanced stuff like cut detection.
I love ableton but its compicated asf. When i watch tutorials people just hit x y z buttons and boom things work and when i do the exact same thing nothing happens. Searching for a new Daw anybody has a good idea of how ableton compares to this?? Any input would be greatly appreciated
From what I can see Ableton is one of the best DAWs out there but then there is Studio One, Studio One is like looking through a glass everything is so crystal clear.

Thanks for reaching out! I don't think there is necessarily a 'best for any situation' DAW for vocals, it really depends on your setup and workflow and what you value in a DAW. Studio One is a powerful DAW with a ton of great features, and it's very intuitive. If you work mostly in the box with a lot of plug-ins, Studio One can be very simple to manage and mix with. If you use a lot of outboard gear and utilize a lot of automation, Pro Tools may be a DAW that you could strongly consider. Are there any features designed for film and TV post production?
Hey, Wilson! Great question. Studio One Pro currently has some basic video features for post production including importing, syncing and exporting, which are great for casual projects. But for professional TV/film projects, a DAW like Cubase might be preferred because of its deeper video integration.

i love studio one but i hate editing with it, it lacks the select all equal subposition and i use this a lot in logic and cubase has it too but studio one makes it hard and this is why i don't use studio one and i asked them to implement this but for years they don't listen ...

@@andypryce7417 it is named differently i forgot .. its been 2 years since i used cubase . try testing all the select options inside the piano roll i remember you have to right click and then you will see select options its named select all ( something ) i can't remember ..

I like Pro-tools elastic tool. How good is studio one's version of this?
Studio One has this thing called Audio Bend. What's great about this is when working on drums, you can automatically detect the transients and S1 will put bend markers on it. It's very fast and easy to use. If you want to know more you can search for "quantizing drums in studio one" here on TH-cam.

I am trying to learn about this DAW stuff. So after watching the video, and reading lots of comments, I have a question, my question is how do you plug your guitar into your computer to "record" a track using this software? Am I incorrectly assuming you need a 1/4" input jack for the guitar cord somewhere? And then a 1/4" output jack to feed the "software" version of the sound signal out to your amp?
To record you need a "audio interface" device that you connect your 1/4" into, then the device will transmit the signal via USB cable to your computer. Take a look on the Sweetwater site they have a bunch. Then you will need to download the DAW software and record the input from the software itself. Lots of tutorial videos here on TH-cam to get you going.

I'm thinking of moving from (or adding to) Digital Performer, which I've used for many many years and know well. My day gig involves spoken word seminars where I have to name a lot of tracks. Without getting into too much detail, I have to add all the track markers and titles after the fact in DSP Quattro as DP won't export markers to CD tracks in that way. I'm really curious how Studio One handles markers in wav files > CD track markers. I would love to be able to enter my markers/track titles as I work linerarly, rather than having to enter hem in after the fact. I hope I made that clear! Any experienced users - I appreciate your thoughts.
Hello, theoversouls! Studio One makes this quite simple. You can add markers while the transport is running by pressing the “Y” key. From there, the track designations can be setup to follow the markers. More on that here:

Studio One might be excellent, but it was so utterly unintuitive that there was no reason for me to ditch 12 years of Cakewalk Sonar experience, even if it does crash a bit too often.
Its a shame you didn't get on with it. One of its often cited features is its intuitiveness, and certainly i often find exactky what i need just by trying, so I would certainly take issue with your suggestion its not intuitive. Im not gonna get tribal on DAWs, but Studio One is exactly what ive been looking for for years, and for me, by far the best option.
If your efficient with cakewalk I’d say stick with it otherwise it would be like staring over. I believe Studio one has a way to change keyboard shortcuts to match cakewalks shortcuts or any DAW you want very simply. Any DAW that works for you is best.
I ditched Sonar in a heartbeat for Studio One!
